Renew your life this Spring Spring is synonymous with a fresh start. The warmer weather seems to awaken us, bringing us out of our inertia and for many a sudden urge to spring clean occurs. Something about mother nature’s ‘rebirth’ subtly encourages us to renew our homes. But have you stopped to think about the parallels between physical spring cleaning and mental or emotional spring cleaning? How can we clear out the muck from our lives?Keep the good – discard the badWhen you’re cleaning out draws and cupboards, you find junk (bills, old tatty clothes, old papers). But in and amongst the junk you may find photographs, cards and letters that bring back good memories. We throw out the junk and keep the good stuff. Similarly, go on a sweep through your mind. Find the ‘junk’ in your thoughts and toss it. Hold on to
the good memories and positive experiences. The junk takes up valuable space in our minds and brings up negative emotions. Emotional baggage bogs us down. You will be amazed at how light and free you feel when you decide to let go of the baggage.Rearrange thingsWhy is it that the need to rearrange furniture tends to strike during a spring cleaning binge? It seems to add to the feeling of freshening things up – a new take on the old. This can apply to your life as well. Sometimes we get into a rut or tire of doing the same thing. Time to get creative, think out of the box or give an old problem a new spin. Bored with the same gym routine? Why not join a dancing class? Another way to exercise and a lot more fun too!

Food & Catering
Heart Healthy FoodsSeptember is Heart Awareness Month with World Heart Day on 29 September. We take a look at some heart healthy foods to include in our diet to help prevent cardiovascular disease. It’s easier than you think!Breakfast: Start your day with a bowl of oatmeal and benefit from Omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, potassium, folate, niacin, and soluble fibre. Oats help lower cholesterol. You can even add some raisins, blueberries or strawberries which are also good for the heart.Mid-morning snack: Make a fruit salad made with blueberries, oranges, sweet melon or paw-paw all of which contain beta- and alpha-carotene, vitamin C and potassium. Lunch: Have a tuna salad or sandwich for lunch - rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, folate and niacin. Add some avocado which helps lower bad (LDL) cholesterol and increase good (HDL) cholesterol.Mid-afternoon snack: Nibble on some almonds and walnuts, both of which contain plant Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, magnesium, fibre; heart-favourable mono- and polyunsaturated fats and phytosterols.
Munch on an apple which helps lower bad cholesterol.Thirsty? Water is always the best thirst-quencher. But a cup of tea also aids heart health as it contains catechins and flavonoids.Dinner: A meal containing salmon, brown rice, tomatoes, red bell peppers, asparagus and spinach all help to keep the ticker going nicely! Finish off with a glass of red wine which contain catechins and reservatrol (flavonoids).
Extra treat! Chocoholic? Make sure it’s dark chocolate (at least 70%) which contain flavonoids and antioxidants and helps lower bad cholesterol.
Leading your business from "Buy-in" to "Sold out"Having just concluded another sale which includes, corporate training seminars, coaching, as well as client sponsorship to an upcoming event, I feel quite "chuffed". That made me wonder, "what makes people buy into proposals, products or services? After all, with so many similar stuff out there, surely they have options? I concluded that it is only one thing....CREDIBILITY! We often speak about branding and just as often as we speak about it, we forget that we are the brand. We are constantly out there, promoting and "selling". The question is: What are we promoting? Are potential clients impressed and enticed to want to do business with us? Or are they saying things like: "I'm glad I'm not doing business with them?" Furthermore and very important, be consistent. We often find people in sales, with a "sales" talk but as soon as they have either concluded or lost the sale, their "normal" talk and even their walk is completely different. Let's ensure that which our potential clients and customers buy into is the same reason they walk in and we get sold out. As we continue to lead our businesses from where we are!

reCONNECT with your GardenDelightful Spring Gardens
Spring is a wonderful time of the year. The world becomes more colourful. Whether you take a drive out to feast your eyes on the colourful carpet of flowers blanketing the Namaqualand or simply notice the wild daisies popping out of the grass in your garden, you know winter is at an end and warmer weather is ahead. If you want to enjoy the wonders of a spring garden in your own backyard, what sort of plants and flowers should you be planting?Azaleas are a perfect choice. Fill huge pots with this plant that bursts forth with striking colourful flowers. Sure to make your outdoor patio look pretty.Pansies and violas are to very common spring flowers. Pansies have fewer blooms but a bigger flower, while their cousin, the Violas, have a more clustered bloom. Both are bold in colour, often with rich violet tones. They give a lovely display in window boxes, pots, or hanging baskets.Vygies and daisies are abundant during spring. These wild flowers pop up without much ado all over the place. They come in almost all colours of the rainbow. When planted close together in a large bed they make a bright and stunning ground cover.Did you know? The Afrikaans word ‘vygie’ means ‘small fig’
