A YEAR OF INTENTION!

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our

lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to

do every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

As this new school year begins, I’m excited about many exciting things God is busy doing in our midst! After a year of research and prayerful consideration, we have a new Christian Education (formerly “Sunday School”) program. During this past year, we discovered that Sunday mornings have been an absolute precious time for families, due to a concentration on worship & fellowship. The consensus is that this designated time for worship & fellowship should continue uninterrupted. We’ve also discovered that many churches in our area who continue to grow their Christian Education programs were those who met at times other than Sunday mornings. So, we’ve decided to move our education opportunities to Wednesdays, beginning in September (watch your calendar). This initiative will involve ALL ages of disciples—running the gamut from nursery all the way up to adults! And, this new Christian Ed initiative could not come at a better time. Let me explain:

Beginning this fall, we’re entering into our third year of a 5-year Ministry Plan, adopted by our leadership a few years back.

Page 3: September 2012 Newsletter

Year One was a focus on Radical Hospitality. Then, Year Two was a focus on Passionate Worship. Both of these areas will be ongoing in implementation, as we continue to grow to be more and more like Christ. So, how do we do that? How do we continue to become more and more Christ-like in all that we do—in all that we are? We have to be intentional about our relationship (our walk) with God! And so we begin a new school year with this focus:

INTENTIONAL FAITH DEVELOPMENT – 2012-13 (YEAR 3 FOCUS)

Talk to any exercise guru and they’ll tell you that if you’re not intentional in your efforts to improve yourself physically, you’ll never achieve your goals. It’s the same with our spiritual lives. Whoever hinted that once you decide to follow Christ, that’s all there is to it … was not being very truthful (though I know this mindset is out there)! The truth is, we have to exercise our faith too, if we want it to not only be strong, but remain strong in our faith. And that’s also the way we become a healthy and growing church. That’s what our Wednesday nights, starting this fall, will be all about. We’re calling our Wednesday night gatherings “All4One.” And indeed, if we are all for One, this is going to be the start of something huge—huge for the Kingdom of God! So be thinking, as we begin a new school year together, what God is nudging you to do in your walk with Him. Where does God want you to grow to become more and more like his Son, Jesus? This is what we’ll be exploring together—intentionally—as the year moves ahead. See you at the spiritual gym,

Pastor Rom

All4One! All4One! All4One!

The Christian Education Ministry Team (CEMT) is thrilled to

announce that after almost a year of research, prayer,

church visits, discussion, book study and more prayer, the

future of Christian Education at the DUMC is planned! Our

plan is that on Wednesday evenings all ages from nursery

through adults will come together to learn and grow in God’s

love. Our evening Christian Education, All4One will begin at

6:00pm with parents signing-in children 5th grade and under

in fellowship hall. After arrival, enjoy hospitality snacks in

the narthex. From 6:15-6:30pm we will all be in the

sanctuary for opening welcome with music, song, and prayer.

From 6:30-7:30pm infants to 4year olds will be in the

nursery, 4year olds through 5th graders will be in rotation

learning groups, and middle school, high school and adult

groups will separate for their lessons. Children will be signed

out by parents in fellowship hall and all will dismiss from the

narthex at 7:30pm. We will begin All4One on Wednesday,

September 12th, 2012!

What about Sunday school on Sunday? We are pleased to let

you know that attending and participating as a family, in

either worship service (the 9:00am traditional or 10:45am

contemporary) is a vital component of Christian Education.

We feel that Sunday is a day of worship for all. Additionally,

continued on following page

Page 10: September 2012 Newsletter

our time of fellowship between services is a healthy

opportunity to be together as a church family. The nursery

will continue to be available for infants to 4 year olds during

both services.

Our D6 curriculum will all be connected, so that everyone will

have the opportunity to work on the same Bible based

lessons. This United Methodist approved curriculum by

Cokesbury, is CLEAR. It provides all with ways to Connect,

Learn, Explore, Apply and Respond to what we learn. D6

stands for Deuteronomy 6:4-9 which commands dads and

moms to take everyday opportunities to impress God’s Word

upon the hearts of their children. D6 is foundational to

raising spiritual champions for Christ. We must be active in

passing our faith along to our kids. It’s clear from D6 that,

while church is a vital part of this development, it cannot

stop there. It must continue in the home. Churches and

parents must partner together!

Are YOU excited about All4One and the future of Christian

Education at DUMC? We are! Please continue to support us

with your prayers and positive attitude. We will be looking

for help with teaching, nursery, hospitality, weekly snack

donations, and more. The future of God’s kingdom is in our

hearts and hands as we love, learn, and work together.

Craig Brown, Sarah Godfrey, Julia Harman, Pastor Rom

September 2012 A STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE FOR YOUR CHURCH

#281 The grass withers, the flower fades; But the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8 – NRSV)

As I drive through the countryside, I’m amazed at how differently the corn crop is responding to the drought. The grass has dried up and leaves on the trees are falling prematurely. When the Gerbera daisies in my flower boxes need water, they wilt so pitifully I can almost hear them whining for water! Instead of withering, drooping and giving up, so to speak, the corn plants are stretching up as high as they can. Their leaves are curled toward the middle as their defense mechanism against the lack of rain. Driving by, it appears that they are reaching toward the sky. Many are still trying to tassel out and pollinate in order to produce cobs. I think we could learn some lessons from the corn plants that are reaching toward the sky. They are standing as tall as they can in the midst of adversity. The difficulties they face are not going to get them down. In theological terms, we could say that the difficulties they face are also not going to keep them from being focused on God. They continue to grow straight and tall, trying their best to give all they can. The cobs they are able to grow this year will be small and much lower in essential nutrients. But those who are able will give as much as possible. It’s written in the scriptures, “The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8) In the midst of the drought this year, we are beginning a new approach to discipleship and giving here in Wisconsin called “Think Greater!” Let’s “Think Greater” together as we give thanks for all God has given us and offer a portion of our gifts back to God. What is God calling you to give of your time, your talents and your treasures?
