Dependent Care Expense Reimbursement Accounts

The health care reform law does not affect dependent care accounts The maximum for Dependent

Care Expense Reimbursement Accounts remains $5000 a year per household

Participants that are married and filing a joint tax return may elect a salary reduction of up

to $5000 a year for the household

Participants that are married but filing separate tax returns may elect up to $2500 a year

per participant

Single parents may elect a maximum of $5000 a year

Health Care Reform Announcement

Employees can contribute no more than $2500 from their salary to their Medical Expense

Reimbursement Account each plan year

The annual maximum only applies to employee payroll deductions any money contributed to your

flexible benefit account by your employer isnrsquot included in the $2500 annual maximum Therefore

any employee receiving $120 from the wellness program could have a maximum contribution of up

to $2620

The $2500 annual maximum is per participant

If your spouse is eligible for flexible benefits with LCPS or with another employer heshe

may elect a salary reduction of up to $2500 - regardless of how much you elect

If your spouse isnrsquot eligible for flexible benefits you may still only have a maximum salary

If you have a qualifying event during the year and you wish to increase your election you may not

exceed the $2500 annual maximum

The health care reform law does not apply to plan years before 2013 Therefore if you have money

left from the 2012 plan year you can still incur expenses during the grace period (January 1 2013 to

If your election in the flexible benefit plan is de-activated and re-activated in the same plan year

your total salary reduction canrsquot exceed the $2500 annual maximum

The $2500 annual maximum will be subject to inflation and may change in subsequent years

formal notice of any such change will be provided

Beginning in 2013 health care reform will impose an annual maximum of

$2500 on Medical Expense Reimbursement Accounts

Legislation passed by the 2012 General Assembly resulted in VRS making changes to how its members receive retirement credit These changes were effective July 1 2012 Contributions to VRS consist of two parts ndash one from the employer and one from the employee Prior to this legislation Loudoun County Public Schools paid both parts for its full time employees The 2012 General Assembly approved legislation requiring employees to pay the employee share ndash in essence prohibiting LCPS from continuing to pay this on behalf of its employees While wersquove been communicating with you over the last several months regarding the deduction now being taken from your paycheck for the employee share there is another circumstance that you should be aware of

If you experience Leave Without Pay you may NOT receive service credit

For example if an employee has exhausted all earned leave and is being docked for leave without pay there may not be sufficient pay to deduct the member share This could result in the employee not receiving VRS credit for that month This loss of credit is not eligible for purchase under VRS Purchase of Prior Service guidelines The following link to VRS provides a list of the types of service that are eligible httpwwwvaretireorgmembersplan1ppstypesasp

How Service Credit Is Earned Previously 10 or 11 month staff would receive an additional service credit in a designated month during the year to get to one full year of service credit Service is now reported as follows

Cigna is working with MedSolutions Inc to implement a new support and outreach program called Informed Choice The goal of the program is to educate customers undergoing an MRI CT or PET scan about their options for geographically convenient and cost-effective facilities as they and their doctors choose where to have the scans done This program is available to all Cigna customers

How Does The Program Work

After your doctor contacts MedSolutions for precertification of coverage for an MRI CT or PET scan a specially trained representative may contact you by phone and provide information about conveniently located credentialed participating facilities (hospitals or free-standing facilities) and offer appointment options MedSolutions representatives can also provide cost comparison information so that you can be aware of the financial impact of the choice of facility MedSolutions can assist you in scheduling an appointment at your facility of choice and complete the referral for the services that have been authorized for coverage Additionally if you have questions about benefits or other plan details the MedSolutions representative can connect directly with Cignas Customer service team to help answer those questions as well

The two key goals of this program are

To make individuals aware of available options for MRI CT and PET scans To provide cost comparison information to assist individuals in choosing to obtain imaging services from credentialed service centers at a discounted rate

Itrsquos important to remember that the final decision as to where you receive treatment in these cases is YOUR decision This is by no means a method of steering you to a facility that you or your doctor did not choose If you have any questions about this program in particular or any of your Cigna benefits please contact their Customer Service Team 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 1-800-244-6224
