Some just want to escape from all the drama. Senior Amber Sydow has her own reason. “I got pregnant my junior year,” Sydow explained. “I decided that I want to spend time with my daughter and work more.” Sydow’s baby is now two and half months old, and spending more time with her baby is what Sydow cherishes most. “The best thing about graduating early is know I will be around my daughter more,” Sydow explained. Sydow does think she will miss out on some high school experiences.. “I wante d to take some classes like mythology and pottery, but I won’t be able to because they are second semester classes,” Sydow said. “I am also going to miss out on just bonding with my class before everyone goes their seperate ways.” Sydow plans on taking second semester off. “Second semester I am going to work more and start college next August,” Sydow said. No one has influenced Sydow into graduating at semester. “I knew a few people who graduated early, but I made this decision all by myself,” Sydow said. Sydow plans on participating in both graduation commencement and prom. “Last year I was pregnant so I really didn’t get the whole prom experience,” Sydow said, “So I’m definitely doing it.” All of Sydow’s family is very supportive of her decision. “My family understands my reasons for wanting to graduate early. My friends haven’t said much, but I think they think it’s a good idea,” Sydow said. For the last four months of high school Sydow has left, she is very grateful for the support of her family. “It makes me feel good to know they are supportive,” Sydow said. “I know the decision I made was a good decision, even though it was influence d by a bad one.” Graduating at semester this school year is a decision 10 senior students have made this year. “A week before school started, I decided this is something I really wanted to do,” senior Jor- dan Pick explained. Pick has always wanted to get out on her own, and graduating early seemed to be a way to do this. “I really like McCook and everything, and I do want to come back here, but I just want to get out on my own,” Pick said. Pick is very prepared for life after high school. “After I graduate from high school this semester, I will have a se- mester of college done already. I plan on pick- ing it up in January and going another year and a half at MCC,” Pick said. Pick plans to get her own place in Jan- uary and move in with her sister and a friend. “I won’t miss out on any thing by graduating early. The only thing that ever goes on is prom, and I can participate in it if I want,” Pick said. No one has influenced Pick into her decision on early graduation. “One day it really just came to me and it was something I felt really strongly about. It’s what I want to do and what I am going to do,” Pick said. Graduation commencement is something Pick will not miss out on. “I don’t see the point of giving up on some- thing I worked for, for 18 years, and not doing it,” Pick said. All of Pick’s family is very supportive of her decision. “They understand where I am coming form and are glad I am preparing and planning for my future,” Pick said. Pick is not nervous about graduating early. “I think all my extra work will pay off,” Pick said. “My mom has taught me how to money manage and I have the support of my family behind me.” “We usually have 8 kids graduate early every year, but I think circum- stances for one thing, and kids are looking toward their futures and wanting to get a head start on their post high school careers, so they are taking advantage of the mid-term graduation.” McCook High School guidance counselor, Fred Gleason said. >> Quality time with her very important person >> A head start means leaving early Senior Jordan Pick types on her blog spot for English.
