Back Roads to Pozo Saloon Bob & Inge Stallings

Saturday October 31, 2009 Before the goblins come out of the woodwork … Saturday via back roads to visit in the back hills behind the old Pozo Saloon, that was a stage coach stop in 1858. Willie will not be there, the Pozo Martinis are refreshing … one is the limit. As always … it is all about the cars and the drivers and the road. Come join a fun day. Bob Stallings

Despite losing a few couples to the Caravan, we still have a good sized group of 20 theatre lovers-for our Run on Sunday August 30. Departing at 5:15 p.m. from the foot of San Marcos Pass and Cathedral Oaks Road intersection, we will caravan up to Solvang for a 6 p.m. dinner at the River Grill at Alisal. Generous buffet-style barbeque chicken, steak and accompaniments enjoyed in the serenely beautiful setting on the patio overlooking the golf course - and afterward - stuffing ourselves with coffee, home baked cookies and lemon bars, we'll roll along to the Solvang PCPA Theatre for an outdoor evening per-formance of "The Spitfire Grill" at 8:00 p.m. Bring warm jackets to layer/and lap blankets. It will get very cool and breezy there once the sun sets! Good friends, great food, great musical production! This is an experience we look for-ward to every year! Snacks for sale at the theater for intermission gnoshing! Any questions, contact Diane Szalay

Mystery Brunch Run Lee Whitney

I am currently attempting to find a place that will accommodate our motley crew for a Brunch Run on Sep-tember 27th. The Inn at Morro Bay is not able to accommodate us, but we are looking into other places in and about the Arroyo Grande/Avila Beach areas. My tentative plan is to take a leisurely drive through the back roads of Santa Barbara and San Luis coun-ties and end up at a nice eatery some place up there. Since there is no September meeting, please contact me no later than September 13 by email or tele-phone (see CCSB roster) if you are interested in going on this run, and I will keep those who respond in-formed of the final destination.

We had a great turnout at the August meeting .. 36 stayed for dinner! Thanks for the response. When you read this the Corvette Caravan will be underway. Needless to say a lot of planning and hard work has gone into this. I would like to ex-press the appreciation of the club to Hib Halverson, Tony Megowan, Fred Smith, and Inge Stallings for providing the leadership and key roles in getting us organized and on the road in great fashion! Some internet facts from MSN: there is only one ―American‖ made car in the list of the top 10 most-ticketed cars, and it’s not the Corvette. Try the Hummer! The Corvette is on the 10 Most Recommended Automobiles list. Last tally I saw before the ―Cash For Clunkers‖ program ended was that Ford had the top four of five cars turned in! Don’t you just love rewarding people for bad choices! The most popular brand people were buying was Toyota. Have a great month and hope to see you at the next meeting on Tuesday 6 October.

The Chevy Corvette "seems to be more

often a reward car. Its buyers are older than

the industry average, with 88 percent born

before 1946, according to Auto Pacific data.

Only 11 percent of Corvette owners are in

Gen Y or Gen X." Bell adds: "Sadly, the

usual stereotype of the Corvette buyer as a

57-year old male deep in a mid-life crisis is

proven."

Better car than its image suggests

Bell sees another side to the Corvette. "It is

the absolute greatest performance bargain

on the planet," said Bell. "It's an affordable

giant-killer."

Markwalder adds, "There have been 1.5

million Corvettes produced since 1953, and

while plenty of old guys drive them, they are

an engineering marvel that will run 180 mph

or return 30+ mpg highway fuel economy."
