New Spirit 411: News and Info 4 Your Intentions Help You Heal 9 By Krysta Gibson Diana Cooper exuded happiness and calm when we spoke using the technology of Skype, she in England while I was in my office in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. As the author/designer of over 21 books, CDs, and card decks as well as being an international instructor for her angel and ascension schools, Diana is one busy woman. The latest book comes to us via Find- horn Press and is called “A New Light on Angels.” In it, Diana tells us about angels, how to work with them, and shares sto- ries from clients and others who have had successful support from the angelic realm. NSJ: Most of the people reading this publication are familiar with Archangel Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and others. In this book, you mention some new arch- angels, among them Archangel Purlimiek who is in charge of nature and Archan- gel Fhelyai who looks after the animal kingdom. Why are there new archangels coming to us and how do we work with them? Diana: Our frequency has become faster and as it has become faster we can tune into the faster frequency angels or into a higher level of those who have already been with us. For instance, Archangel Michael is a vast universal angel. He goes right out through the universes and cos- mos, but we have only been able to access the smaller amount of his energy and as we access more of the higher energy then we can access more of his light. NSJ: That is why there are more of them? Because more people are open? Diana: Yes. As we are approaching 2012 with all the massive opportunities for growth, more archangels and universal angels have come to earth to help. For example, it is really important that we connect to the animals, so Archangel Fhelyai is now coming in. NSJ: Can you talk about 2012 from your perspective? Diana: Huge changes and ener- gies are coming in 2012. A lot of people are going to open up at that point and move to higher levels of conscious- ness. It is the end of a period and this is why the ancients couldn’t see beyond that point. Very high frequency light is going to pour down on us and we can either accept it and use it, let it take us into a higher level of ascension, or we can find it very difficult to cope with. Thirty-three cosmic portals are opening and they are going to bring in the Christ light which is the unconditional love energy. These energies are linked into other planetary systems and people who want to help us so this is a huge ener- getic opportunity; we have already seen how the changes are happening with the economies of the world. People are stand- ing up and wanting to tell their truth now. This has never happened before and all the secrets and lies are being exposed and coming to the surface. This is part of what we are meant to go through for preparing for 2012. NSJ: What is the best thing for people to do to prepare for this on a personal level? Diana: The first thing to do is to make yourself at peace and centered. That is always the beginning point because from there the angels can help you and you radiate a calming influence which means you can help others. The honoring of nature and of animals are important steps as is seeing every single tree, plant, person and being as something to honor and respect. Even if a person appears to be behaving badly, bless them with love. People want to behave well. They only behave badly if they are sad or have no self-worth. Bul- lies always feel awful inside. That is why they are bullying. If we blast them with self-worth and love, then they have an opportunity to blossom. But if we judge them, they put up their walls. People can sense criticism from a mile off and then their defenses are up. NSJ: In the book you talk about the golden body. What is it and how can people develop it? Diana: When you move into the fifth dimension, then you step into your golden body, the part of you that is totally con- nected. The moment you step out of the ordinary way of being and move into the golden body, the angelic body, your connection with the angels, everything appears different. You don’t look through ego anymore. Instead, you look through the higher perspective and can let things go, can trust you are looked after and cared or and that the highest good will evolve out of every situation. When we’re hanging out in the third dimension where most people live, that doesn’t happen. One of the simplest things you can do to develop your golden body is just sit down and breathe gold into your aura. If your aura is gold, then you start to act as if it’s gold and you attract golden things into your life. It’s so simple. We can change our state very easily by doing that. If you are in a really bad mood and your aura is black, by radiating pink or a strong color, you will make a change. I have done this at seminars by calling in the violet flame and everyone has filled their aura with that color. Then they have their aura photos taken and the colors they visual- ized are there. NSJ: What about the gold, silver, violet flame? Diana: It is very important right now because we have to transmute so much energy on the planet and in ourselves. And it does it very beautifully, keeping us in harmony. On my website there is a golden-silver- violet flame people can send to other people or to places. There is also an abundance ball they can send to people. I have seen both unicorns and angels taking those abundance balls out into the universe to charge them up for people. “What is the answer? I have tried everything to get a job or to purchase an affordable home. I don’t un-derstand what is going on. I went to college so that I could get a better paying job and provide for myself. Yet, nothing is coming my way.” This situation upset me so much that in a fit of anger, I hurled a book across the room, and watched it hit the wall of my rented apart-ment. Then I flung my arms-up in the air and shouted, “God, what do you want from me?” This episode of desperation took place 20 years ago. Had I been armed with the Release Technique, living with so much un-certainty would have been easier. Since I began working with the Release Technique two years ago, I feel more relaxed and clear about my decision-making process. To help myself, I use one of the many practices the Release Technique teaches. It is to “Let Go of Figuring Things Out.” Here are four basic steps to follow to help with this process:

1. Discriminate. Step back from any given situation and become aware if you have gotten answers but have chosen not to listen. Maybe the ego (the voice in the head that weaves tales of doom and gloom) is sending signals of fear and uncertainty. Or, maybe you have listened, and you continue to stay in the loop of trying to figure out the perfect answer because the multitude of possibilities to pursue feels overwhelming. Trust yourself. Take your eyes off the goal. If you feel there is one step you can take towards a goal, do it. Remember, there are no miss-steps. A few weeks ago, I was given a clear understanding of this concept while taking a hike in the mountains. I found that my body was getting tired. I then became aware that my focus was on the goal (getting to the top of a steep hill). I then shifted my awareness to my feet and began to focus on each step. As I became very present with each step, I found that my body had tons of energy. Getting to my goal became effortless.

On the other hand, if you truly do not have an answer, let go. Discriminate and know that if you did have an answer, it would be sitting on the tip of your tongue. The answer would be as cer-tain as your name, address, and telephone number. If this is the case, make a deci-sion to let go. 2. Make a decision to let go of trying to figure things out. How do I just decide to stop? It doesn’t seem easy but it’s important to understand that when we struggle to figure things out, we usually go into a cycle of negativity. A feeling of nega-tivity is just that (a feeling). It is not who we are. Our true self (source energy) is peace, love, and joy and is always present. This source has clear answers. And it is possible to decide to switch into remembering our true self. For instance, I have conducted workshops where I have instructed participants to pair up and talk about their worst day ever. Next, I instruct them to shift and talk about their happiest day ever. I then ask participants “How did they switch so quickly from

feeling the negativity of their worst day to experiencing the joy of the happiest?” The answer is, “It was possible because they made the decision to be present in class and follow my instructions.” Instruct yourself to make the decision to look fear square in the face with your unlimited true self. 3. Move out of disapproval. Once the decision has been made to let go of figuring things out, focus your attention on how you feel in your body. More than likely feel-ings of disapproval for not having an

Simplify Your Decisions answer will surface. These feelings block source energy. To release the feelings of disapproval, first, move into allowing the

our opinions on facts. It doesn’t mean get-ting our information second or third hand and then just jumping on someone else’s bandwagon. This is also a time when we are being asked to step out of our me-me world and to join the larger world. No longer will it work for us to focus only on our own self-ish needs and desires and ignore the rest of the planet. That might have worked in the past but technology has made our world very small. We affect one another in ways we didn’t before. Recognize that we are in an evolutionary cycle. As human beings, we are evolving and we are being asked to step into our own greatness. Some people are being dragged into the future. Wouldn’t you rather walk? We can ignore the realities facing us and pretend nothing is changing. Maybe it will go away? No, sorry. It won’t. There has never been a better time to find our own center and live from that place. Living from our own center means spending time learning who we are and why we are here. Once we know that, daily life flows and we find decisions to be simpler. We tend to be less affected by the tempo-rary pulls and strains of life. We certainly find it easier to stay our own course and are

not easily swayed by the opinions of others. Meditation, journaling, chanting, quiet walks; each of these can help us find our center and can help us stay there. From that place of center we will know what role we are to play in this amazing drama unfolding all around us. Some of us will join the public political scene, others will become teachers or write books and others will focus on rais-ing their families to be productive members of society. Everyone has their place. The key is to be in touch with what ours is and to live it. The next few months will be very interest-ing as we see this healthcare issue continue to unfold and resolve. Let’s remember to stay focused, educate ourselves before speaking or engaging others, and to remain centered and true to ourselves and to the planetary family of which we are members. I can hardly wait until all of this has been resolved since it will make terrific reading in the history books. I really feel as if I am reading a novel and wonder how it will all turn out.

Last month I wrote about how important it is for us to listen to each other so that we really understand each other’s point of view. I heard from quite a few of you who agreed and thanked me for bringing up the topic. And then what happened this last month? Shouting and screaming at town hall meetings, meetings that were intended to share in-formation and create a dialogue about the healthcare reform bills. Instead, many people were not listening. They were shouting their point of view with tremen-dous anger. When others tried to speak, they were shouted down. I watched and asked myself: “What’s really going on for these people? Why don’t they want to listen? Why do they believe other people are lying to them? And why are they so angry?” I certainly don’t have all the answers. I only have my observations and opinions. We live in uncertain times and many people are just plain scared. They don’t feel secure any more. Many structures that used to help people feel supported and safe have dissolved. They feel like life is happening to them rather than their being an active participant and choosing what happens. This makes them prime targets for people

who want to plant seeds of dissen-sion and unrest while promoting their own agenda. It is unfath-omable to me that people are actually saying they don’t want everyone in this country to have health care. Yet, I have heard people say this: that they have health care and they don’t want to help oth-er people have it too. What? Why wouldn’t we want everyone to be healthy and have access to health care? I don’t believe people truly feel that way. This is their fear speak-ing. Right now it is easy to fall into the place of grabbiness, the place that makes you want to grab everything you can for yourself and let others fend for themselves. This is what happens during crisis. You can see this played out in situations such as Katrina when looters ran into the stores and stole what they could while others around them were suffering and dying. Something very primal gets stirred up when people feel they are in a crisis situation. So, what to do? First of all, everyone needs to stop and take a breath. Allow the body and mind to slow down and catch up. There is some-thing very calming about breathing and get-ting some oxygen to the brain cells is very helpful when we feel stressed. Then we all need to take the time to edu-cate ourselves. It is very difficult to hold an honest opinion about anything if we haven’t bothered to learn the facts for ourselves. This means reading documents, listening directly to the people involved, and forming

Dear Editor: I so enjoyed your editorial in the August issue. To find another practitioner who un-derstands that we need to heal the either/or divide that is so much a part of our culture. I wanted to share a story with you. During the Katrina crisis, a former faculty colleague and I were having tea. She made a comment about the direction of the hurricane as divine vengeance on Texas oil barons. This is a good woman who would have been appalled if she

heard someone say, for example, that AIDS was God’s way of punishing gay people. Her comment inspired me to ask: “So you are saying that self-lefteousness is more ac-ceptable than self-righteousness?” Thought you might like that story. Thanks for your article.

Beginning with this issue of New Spirit Journal we will be sharing some bits and pieces of information you might find interesting. If you have a piece of news for us, please send it to Krysta Gibson at [email protected].

• If you want to learn more about the Bhagavad Gita (maybe even discover what that is), here’s your opportunity. “The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita” is a video series with Swami Kriyananda. This consists of 10-minute video segments based on Paramhansa Yogananda’s commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita, recorded by Swami Kriyananda. There are also talks on other topics here: http://www.ananda.org/gita.

• More than 7,300 healers and/or therapists have become members of Healing International. This is a way in which to exchange news, views and ideas on many healing and natural health subjects with like-minded people throughout the world. http://healinginternational.ning.com

• In Search of the Miraculous: Healing into Consciousness by Eliza Mada Dalian has received five awards; quite unusual, we’d say. It was awarded as a finalist in the Indie Book Awards and Indie Excellence Awards, was recognized for its excellence in independent publishing by the Eric Hoffer Award, honored by the prestigious Nautilus Award, and was given the top prize as the Book of the Year in the Living Now Book Awards. For information and video clips visit www.ExpandingUniversePublishing.com and www.madadalian.com.

• The book Women of Wisdom by Seattle author Kris Steinnes was a 2008 finalist for Best New Non-fiction, USA Book News and a 2009 IPPY Bronze Award for Body, Mind, Spirit for Independent Publishers. www.womenofwisdom.org.

• Stitches of Love Circle is looking for donated handmade knitted, crocheted or quilted blankets. These are given to homeless pre-school and kindergarten children at First Place School. They need 37 blankets made by September. The blankets will be placed in backpacks with a book delivered to the children in September. If you are interested, contact Gayle Johnson: [email protected] or phone (206) 721-1288. Info on the school is at http://www.firstplaceschool.org/about.htm.

• Did you enjoy the Eckhart Tolle/Oprah webcasts? Now you can see and hear more of Eckhart at EckhartTolleTV.com. There you can subscribe to streaming video teachings in a private seminar series that addresses topics not ordinarily covered in Eckhart’s public talks. Eckhart will be interacting with members in the Eckhart Tolle TV on-line community, answering personal inquiries, and leading live meditations. In August there was a 20 minute video of Kim Eng talking about her relationship with Eckhart and how she dealt with him not helping her cut up the veges for dinner. Most interesting!

• Did you know that you can download the entire “A New Earth” video se-ries free at iTunes or through Oprah’s website? And did you know that she continues to offer interviews with spiritual leaders through her Soul Series? Her new season begins Sept. 15. These are also free. Find out more at www.oprah.com. Put these on your video/audio iPod and have inspiration whenever and wherever you are.

• Have you been listening to the talk (yell-ing) about healthcare reform? Do you have friends or family who want to block health care reform and quote ideas you know to be false? Are you not sure what to believe? Here are two websites where you can get the facts and be able to share them so people can make informed decisions and statements. www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/ and www.moveon.org/.

• New Online Community Aims to Spark a New Age Revival. www.NewAgePride.org reaches out to “spiritual but not religious.” “When the New Age fell out of fashion in the 1990s, a lot of people lost their spiritual identity,” Teena Booth says. “This is a problem because without a common identity we don’t have the ability to connect to each other, or communicate with each other, or work together toward a better future.” Booth hopes the site will give spiritual progressives the courage to “come out of the spiri-tual closet,” and take on a shared identity that she believes will empower them to build the social capital they need to positively impact society.

• If you’ve heard the term “ascension” being used a lot and want to know more, visit this website: www.emergingearthangels.com.

If you find an interesting website, hear of a new business or big changes in an existing one, send the information to [email protected]. We will print information on a space available and content appropriate basis.

NSJ: Yes, I sent some of those to people and they loved getting them in their e-mails. Diana: It is so important because poverty consciousness is holding the whole planet back. If you absolutely know that your needs will al-ways be met, you can afford to be generous and forgiving. You don’t have to hang on any more. The recession is bringing the world together and the angels are working with the world leaders. NSJ: Is there an all-purpose angel we can call on or do we have to remember the list of angels and what they do? Diana: The best all-purpose angel is your own guardian angel. Work with your own angel and then let them bring in what you need. If you need a particular frequency angel to work with, they will pull that in. Don’t be concerned that you might not have the right angel. You don’t have to memorize names. But when you see their name you do call on that vibration so it comes to you and makes the connection with that particular angel. It is important for your readers to remember this time is the most extraordinary opportunity for spiritual growth and to take advantage of it. We are being watched by the universe to see how we handle this shift. Let’s do it with grace and purpose.

THE ANGELS are always there

Five ways to connect more closely with angels of light1. Think about them frequently. Ask them to come closer and help.

2. Cleanse and purify your thoughts so that your auric field is more penetrable to their fine vibration.

3. Stop analyzing and overthinking everything. This puts you in your left brain and prevents the connection. Whenever you find yourself in your head, place a white-violet light in your mind.

4. Be receptive to their presence and their messages.

5. Listen to angel music. This is now being channeled by a number of sources. It refines your vibrations allowing angels to penetrate your aura. It is truly beautiful.Excerpted from A New Light on An-gels by Diana Cooper (Findhorn Press)

we can understand these inher-ent patterns, the better we can help our kids deal with stress. Chinese face reading is a branch of Chinese medicine, a method that looks at every detail on the face in order to get a complete understanding of someone’s inner world, and what they need to live a healthy, happy and fulfilling life. You can’t tell everything about a person simply by looking at one or two features on his face of course. However, there are some basic things you can observe in your child’s face that will give you valuable information about how he can best deal with stress, and also to discover how he may create it in the first place. Here are just a few examples: Full eyebrows, strong jaw: If the most noticeable features on someone’s face are long or bushy eyebrows and a large well-defined jaw, this is a person who loves to be active. He’ll have more of a go-go-go personality and you may find him tapping his foot if you don’t get right to the point in conversation. He also may have a tendency to procrastinate with homework, not start-ing a project until the night before it’s due or being overly-confident about how easy something will be for him, and then discov-ering at the last minute that it’s more com-plicated than he thought. To minimize the chances of this kind of stressful situation, it’s best for him to break any project down into a step-by-step plan in the beginning, to get a clear vision of what has to be done and create a strategy for how to do it. If he does become too stressed, what will

help him most is not a nap or hours spaced out in front of the TV. The best thing to return balance to these types of people is to get out in nature, going for a run, for instance, hiking in the woods, or just sitting under a tree. Large mouth, full lips: This kind of mouth reveals someone with the potential to sit down and complete a project in the time allowed. But he also loves to enjoy life, so if there is a problem, it could be due to too many breaks for snacks or phone calls to friends. This is also someone whose family and friends play a big part in his life, an other-directed person, who may stress himself about doing a good job, worried about disap-pointing the teacher or his parents. He may have trouble sleeping the night before a test, his mind spinning with thoughts and worries.

Dear Jean, My teenage son got very stressed about his home-work in school last year. As he goes back this fall, I’m looking for ways I can help him deal differently with things. Can Chinese face reading give me any ideas?

The Chinese believed that your face is a reflection of your true inner spirit, the blueprint of your origi-nal design. UNIVERSAL WHITE TIMEHEALING

This kind of person can deal with stress best if he’s allowed to talk out his feel-ings with parents or friends. Spending some time helping others is another way for him to feel better. And a good meal as a reward for a job well-done is often very effective. Prominent nose, full upper cheeks: If either of these features is the most noticeable one on his face, it’s a reflection of a tempera-ment with a great need for guidelines and structure.

This is someone who’s actually quite sensitive and will tend to struggle with perfectionism. The more clarity there can be with in-structions from the teacher, for instance, the less chance for anxiety about doing it “right.” Any uncertainty about deadlines or expecta-tions can create more op-portunities to feel stressed. He’ll also do best if he has plenty of time for home-work, and a calm environ-ment so he can concentrate. These kinds of kids have such a high level of sensitiv-ity that they can be psychic

sponges at school, soaking in all the turbulent energy of their classmates all day. They need “alone time” after coming home from school, to help their system de-stress, clearing out the energy of everyone they’ve been around through the day. We think our children don’t come with a user’s manual but in fact they do. There’s so much valuable information on each child’s face that can help you sup-port him in the ways that suit his true nature. This is why I’m hard at work on my

next book right now, about the wisdom of your child’s face, so stay tuned for more.

How do you know you are giving too much advice? There are several answers to that question, but the first clue that comes to mind is seeing your friend cross the street quickly and not notice you. If this scenario seems

familiar, you give them the benefit of the doubt. Strolling down the street an inner thought process eliminates the possibilities of being snubbed, such as “They didn’t see me” or “I bet she/he is late for a meet-ing, picking up children, must be running to work, an appointment, need to

catch a bus, ferry, train or shuttle... Well, I will give them a call so I can share my latest crisis, new vita-min, new exercise, new diet regimen. I’m sure they will be so interested!” Your brain spins with anticipation at all the new information and advice that will bond your friendship.

The reasoning and silent dialogue continue. “She will be so happy to learn what I have uncovered about his/her health online, how to discipline the kids, make a soy smoothie, why the airline crashed, how to fix the marriage by using Feng Shui advice given to another friend, when to meditate,

Giving Away Free Advice is Risky loose weight, gain weight or how to get an easy divorce. He/she is so lucky to know me,” you rationalize. “Oh, I didn’t miss them after all, there they are go-ing into the grocery store, I will share my advice in the paper towel aisle, it is not as crowded, then I can get some free legal advice, because they just got back from a weekend with Larry the Lawyer, Do-It-Yourself, Sue-the-City Seminar!” Running at full pace, you are sidetracked by Suzie’s teacher standing in line at the bank ATM. “I must share a smidge of my new feng shui knowledge to help her be a better communicator with my darling kindergar-tener,” I surmise. Now distracted by my own good advice, I see my other “friend” running through the automatic grocery store doors glancing back toward me. “Yoo-hoo,” I yell across the store to get his/her attention. “Huh, guess she/he didn’t have their contacts in, too bad, they should be using the new product I find help-ful for long day use called “Seeing is Believing 24/7.” I

pick up my cell phone and zip through my directory of important people to find the “friend.” I twitter through the 150 names and remember I can’t remember his/her last name. “Oh well, it will come to me later,” I conclude, forgetting the bread, celery and lettuce at the grocery store! Yes, I confess. I have been on the giving end and the re-ceiving end of excess advice and have now decided to not give advice unless someone asks for it, especially those who are in the business of providing services, such as a dentist, doctor, attorney, engineer or therapist. They must charge a fee to stay in business. It has taken me years to learn giving away free information without being asked weakens my immune system. For a visual of my findings, picture yourself as an information donor. See tubes attached to your brain and body. Advice is flowing from every tube without anyone wanting it. It is spill-ing like rain into a gutter. No one cares or wants to hear anymore.

Do you want a miracle? Do you want to get unstuck, have a profound experi-ence of freedom, feel and be physically well? As a spiritual/theta healer people come to me for the miraculous. They want to be healed; healed from what they have not been able to change. They want to be healed from what seems unsolvable. They want a miracle.

Here is what I have learned about how to help the miraculous occur.

Tips for clients 1. Only go to a healer whom you like as a person and who you think has the skills to heal you. When you like someone you tend to trust them and that trust facilitates you to open. That opening can allow deep healing to occur. When you don’t like a healer and

go to see them anyway you are ignoring your higher self and its guidance. I have cleaned up many an energetic mess from a client who went to see a healer with a profound reputation who they did not like. 2. Prior to your session, eat light foods that are easy for you to absorb so your energy does not go to digestion or immune reac-tions, but towards healing. Avoid coffee, sugar and alcohol so your field is neither suppressed nor exaggerated. You want your energy field in the best, most grounded state so the healer is working

on the core problem not on a surface, temporary condition. 3. Pray every day that the intention for the session is answered. Your prayer can build a thought form that can be leveraged by the healer in your session to create more powerful results. 4. While the session is going on tell your practi-tioner what is happening when it happens. Although spiritual healers can sense energy they usually cannot see the whole picture and your feedback can inform the healer as to his/her next steps. 5. The spiritual healer you are seeing does not know the complete truth. They get hits, partial pictures of what is truly happening. Don’t stop listening to your inner voice, just because you are around someone who can assist in moving energy. Instead consider what your spiritual healer is saying against what you truly know to be true.

Tips for healers 1. As a spiritual healer you accept that you are not doing the healing. God, a guide, an angel,

a law, etc. is doing the healing. If you are not using the energy of higher realms you are left to use your own energy and that can result in you getting sick. If you do not feel connected prior to a ses-sion, apologize to the client, cancel the session and get reconnected. 2. As a spiritual healer your job is to hold the intention that the person(s) is already healed. You see them as whole, complete and healthy. To see them any other way leaves you in the paradigm of a problem. If you come from seeing the client’s condi-tion as a problem you may be able to move the client’s presenting condition tempo-rarily, but another will surely replace it in the client’s life. 3. As a spiritual healer your job is to keep your attention on the client and the energy coming in and out of his/her field. It is your attention on the en-ergy, plus your intention that assists in creating an opening for the miraculous to occur. 4. As a spiritual healer you accept you cannot

feelings. Don’t try to change them. Watch them. Once you observe the feelings you are no longer a part of them. As the observer you can further discriminate and remind yourself that you are source energy. Next, imagine open-ing all the pores of your body and give the feelings of disapproval permission to leave. You will find that as you relax into this process, feelings of disapproval will exit effortlessly. Repeat until you feel complete. 4. Give yourself approval. After you have released feel-ings of disapproval spend time giving yourself ap-proval. Think of something that you love about yourself.

This can sometimes feel easier said than done. How-ever, you can discriminate and decide to give yourself approval for no reason at all. Or, you can bring up the lov-ing memories from the past and immerse yourself in that feeling. Then from that place send yourself approval. The more time you spend giving yourself approval the lighter and happier you will feel. Twenty years ago, I strug-gled, kicked, and screamed until I received my answer. The day after my enraged outburst, I received a tele-phone call from Washington State University. They called to ask if I was interested in doing my Master’s Degree in Speech Communica-tion. They would give me a

stipend and pay my tuition if I taught public speaking. Consequently, I learned a valuable lesson. If things aren’t going my way, the uni-verse is sending me a signal to let go because there is a much better plan on the horizon. I have no judgment in the way I approached my uncertainty back then, but things would have been easi-er had I known how to let go with the Release Technique.

Some of you may find the content of this article a little strange, even spooky. It is about spirit possession. It has been the sub-ject of a number of movies, the most notable being “The Exorcist,” appearing in the ’70s. While most possessions are not as dramatic as the one portrayed in this movie, they can be just as destructive. Spirit possession and attachment is a

little known, and seldom talked about phenom-enon in spiritual circles. Mainstream culture is almost totally unaware of it, yet attachment is one of the most destruc-tive experiences you can have and is quite common. Everyone is vulnerable to it. You are most at risk whenever you are sick, depressed, or emotional, even when you are simply having an “off” day. Of course, you may be depressed because of a possession. If you are having death thoughts, they are probably the result of a

spirit in your energy. A friend of mine often talked about the desire to end his life. He didn’t realize those thoughts were not his. After being cleared of that possession, he stopped speaking about suicide. Almost all suicides are a result of possession. There are all kinds of spirits, from the benign to demon-like. The benign are often children who have died and lost their way. Demons are always looking for someone to

control and do their dirty work for them. Their agenda always comes first, even if it kills the host. Often it does. A young man, who had been diagnosed by a psy-chiatrist as having bipolar disorder, called me for a consultation. His doctor had been medicating him for bipolar symptoms, but it wasn’t helping. When there is an attachment, accurate diagnosis is impossible. Within a few minutes of talking with him, I became aware of a very nasty spirit in his energy and helped him clear it, while he was still on the phone. The bipolar symptoms quickly disap-peared. Spirits are adept at avoid-ing detection. One client I had seen many times before made an appointment with me and then cancelled it within the hour. Her excuse seemed feeble, so I con-vinced her that she should follow through with the appointment. There was a spirit in her energy and it was trying to keep her away from me, but I didn’t rec-ognize that right away. The first half of her therapy ses-sion didn’t go very well, but once I discovered she had an attachment and cleared it, the session immediately began to flow. The symptoms of attach-ment read like the “who’s who” of psychiatric disor-ders. The most common symptoms are depression, low energy, apathy, sudden change of moods, erratic be-havior, compulsive thinking, inability to focus, negative thinking and self-talk, anger,

possibly understand how the miraculous works. Do not try to explain the miracu-lous. You can’t. 5. As a spiritual healer you know a healing can only occur when you as the healer comes from love. If you do not come from love you are not present to the client and are not connected to higher realms. You will be forced to use your own energy to heal the client and the healing will prob-ably not hold and you will be drained. 6. As a spiritual healer you are being paid for your time, not for the healing, since you are not doing the

healing. In truth the term “healer” is not accurate. You are open to higher realms while giving your attention, intention and love to the cli-ent; that’s it. 7. As a spiritual healer your job is to be in two lo-cations. You must track time and be in the other timeless realms with the client to facilitate the healing. 8. As a spiritual healer you recognize you are not enlightened (unless you are, in that case, please call me). Just because you have access to higher healing realms does not mean you don’t have your own stuff to work on. 9. As a spiritual healer you recognize that if someone does not get healed you were

either not empty enough for the information/healing to come through or the person was not meant to be healed.

Originally a counselor/coach, Colby Wilk recog-nized that there was a power beyond traditional therapeutic methods that could shift what seemed unchangeable: the very core of a person. Through spiri-tual healing, Colby teaches participants to create a powerful, magical relation-ship to themselves and to life. He trains others to be their own teacher, to access spiritual states and to over-come blocks. Colby offers weekly free instant healings through his website: www.HealThroughSpirit.com.

How Miracles HappenContinued from Page 7

rage, fear, anxiety, hyper-activity, despair, hopeless-ness, lack of motivation and creativity. You are likely to attract a spirit in places where you would least expect to find them. One of the most common places is hospi-tals, because they thrive on despair and hopelessness. Bars are excellent breeding grounds, anywhere there are drugs and alcohol. It’s even possible to attract one while walking past someone at your local supermarket. I picked one up in a Chinese restaurant in Frisco, Colo. The altitude is more than 9,000 feet and after being there for several days, I started to experience alti-tude sickness. Not long after leaving the restaurant, I began to have very negative thoughts. Suddenly, I real-ized they were not actually mine. When the attachment has gone on for a long time, you can become dependent and addicted to it. Like any addiction, there may be denial about it. There are a number of ways to clear attachments. This is the one I recom-mend. While attending a meditation retreat in Thai-land, I received a mantra I use for this purpose. The mantra is Shreem Sahw. Repeat it five to 10 times; it raises the frequencies of your energy to a point where it is difficult for a spirit to stay in your field. The second step is to form a pyramid of light around you and call in as much light as possible. As the frequencies of your energy field rise, it

will become difficult for a spirit to hang on. The third step is to call in beings from the higher realms to assist you. Mi-chael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel are archangels who will be very helpful. Or, you may call in any other being you are familiar with from the higher dimensions. You will know when you have been successful because you will feel lighter and the symptoms of depression, anxiety, etc., will disappear. Of course, they are clever and will try to return. If the symptoms return, simply repeat the process.

What is the most overlooked and under-used aspect in modern medicine? Our inten-tions. Using our intentions to manifest our desired state of health is rarely considered to be part of our active wellness program, yet it should be. Harnessing our own inten-tions is the most effective way that we can all play an active role in our own healing. We are now at a crossroads where this ancient wisdom is becoming more main-stream. Medical communities in cultures all

around the world have known for thousands of years that a focused positive patient is more likely to heal. Leaders in science are discovering that we are far more complex than biochemical machines. Health encom-passes physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. It is impossible to separate our physical being from emotional and spiritual levels. Our intentions create our reality. Inten-tions directly affect our metabolism and consequently every aspect of our health. It is common knowledge in the scientific

community that our intentions influence our healing processes. Although these concepts are well accepted, the medical community has been slow to integrate these ideas into practice. After discovering the structure of DNA the scientific commu-nity became ob-sessed with finding a structural biochemical explanation for every biological process. As technology advanced it seemed that every mystery in biology would be explained by physical biochemical interactions. When the human genome was sequenced this was thought to be the final frontier in molecular biology, which would leave few remaining mysteries in biology. Rather than solving all biological questions, it became apparent that there are many important mechanisms which remain poorly understood. It turns out that our environ-ment determines which genes are “turned on” and which ones are not. This selective control of the DNA results in these cells having completely different properties. The

field of epigenetics emerged which has dramatically changed our understanding of biology. Epigenetics emphasizes the fact that environment has a significant and de-

I have learned many lessons from animals over the years. Some I learned quickly and others took me longer to get. Some of the lessons have been wonderful and fun and some, prob-ably the most important ones, have been painful. That is where I will pick up my snake story. Last month I left you as my family was begin-ning the drive back to Seattle after a family ad-venture with our cousins. Along with us we had two huge glass jars, each filled with 50 garter snakes. I had collected them during this adventure and refused to return home without them. Sometimes my parents let me learn my lessons the hard way, which was easier for them than trying to argue with me about it. This was one of those times. We all, snakes included, made the trip home safely. I was so excited to let my snake friends go in our backyard, assuming that they would stay where I put them and be available for me to play with whenever I wanted. Of course, they didn’t and my heart broke daily for a very long while, every time I found one or more of them flattened in the street by a car all over the neighborhood. That was the last time I removed a healthy wild creature from its home environment for my own selfish pleasure. But, surely it would be okay to bring them

home temporarily, just for a visit, especially if I returned them to their home afterward. Don’t think my parents would agree about that. Another lesson. This time it is New Year’s Day at the Norwalk’s and I am grade school aged. My parents are huge football fans and this is a very special day because our local UW Huskies are playing in the Rose Bowl. My parents and their friends are sequestered in the TV room for the big game and have given us kids orders not to disturb them. My girlfriend and I are bored and decide to walk the half-mile or so over the hills and down to her house. Along the way we stop by Lake Washington to visit the family of wild, white geese that live near the shore. They know us well as we bring them dried bread treats often. We have developed a great friendship with them and they love us

Since it was such a long walk back to my house, we decided we should have goose leashes to make sure we kept our friends safe and under control on the way. We went to my friend’s house because it was closer and all we could find was a

large ball of string. That would have to do.

Back to the shore we went and then I explained to

the geese what we had in mind and asked which two wanted to go with

us. The two volunteers stood patiently as we fashioned a leash out of string for each.

We even tied a loop at both ends. One to go over and around their necks and the other to go on our wrists. Perfect.

We had a delight-ful walk back to my

house taking time to teach our goose friends street man-

ners for their safely. We made them

wait and look both ways at corners. Even then, I was

the trainer. The geese trusted us so much that there was no pulling or dragging

on the string. They happily strolled along with us all the way back to and inside my house. Once inside, we had to go up some stairs and down a hallway, past the TV room where our parents were watching the big game. I had already told the geese that they needed to be quiet. No problem for the geese. As we passed by, I cracked open the door and told our folks that we were back. They were oblivious and schussed us. Something I am sure they regretted later. We had made it to my parent’s master bathroom. In we went with our friends and closed the door. Now the fun could begin! We filled the tub with cold water and put the geese in. They were ecstatic! They swam around, lifted themselves up and flapped and flapped their wings before diving back into the water. They did this over and over and over again. My friend and I and the geese were in absolute heaven. We laughed and laughed quite unaware of the mess we were all making. In our merriment water and goose poop was flying everywhere and I do mean everywhere. Our fun continued for a very long time until the game ended and into the bathroom walked my mom. Thank goodness it was her and not my dad. Had it been him, I may not be here now

to share this story. I can only imagine what my mom was thinking when she walked into her beautiful bathroom and saw two girls soaked to the bone, two wild geese in her tub and goose poop covering every vertical and horizontal surface in the room. It was even on the ceiling. Thank goodness again that she totally understood my love for the animal kingdom and believe it or not, she didn’t even really get mad at us. She did order us to get the geese out of there post haste and to walk them back to the lake before my father could catch us. She cleaned up the mess. What a saint. We had no problem walking the geese

home but unfortunately it had to be the last time for such an adventure. I learned the les-son: “Loose as a goose” was not coined for no good reason!

Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. —Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

Our nation recently celebrated its 233rd year of independence from Great Britain, yet we find our-selves, in many ways, more enslaved than ever before. Exterior forces such as more government regulation and requirements, an adherence to a world standard which, by its own accord negates our Declaration of Indepen-

dence, and most importantly the abdication of our own in-ner personal freedoms carve a path of confinement rather than liberty. More and more, we self-impose limitations on our worth, our value, our integrity. We believe what we see around us and assume the illusion is real. We do daily battle with the very spirit inside us and shackle our potential in chains of obligation and expectations. Worst of all, we imprison our creativity by denying our-selves freedom of possibility and fantastic possibility. As we notice these precious freedoms falling prey to our thoughts and fears, we understand the importance of the freedom of our minds.

Freedom of Attitude

As Frankl pointed out in his masterpiece, “Man’s Search for Meaning,” the one true freedom remains the ability to choose one’s attitude in any given situation. Many present-day spiritual leaders remind us of our choice of perspective

Freedom of the Mind and stress the importance our outlook holds over the outcome of many day-to-day decisions and behaviors. Mother Theresa taught us to “see God” in every person we meet. When we shift our attitudes, and hence our automatic observations, from seeing problems to finding the good and God in everyone and everything we encounter, we reach levels of happiness and positive energy which bring us peace of mind.

Freedom of Potential

As a young girl, my parents blessed me with their encouragement and matter-of-fact approach to my achievements. Never doubtful of my capabilities, they sought out new things for me to try, new books to read and new ideas to consider. While taking cello lessons didn’t result in any-thing more than an explora-

The founda-tion for building a healthy lifestyle begins with the food we eat. Mak-ing changes in our food may mean developing a new relationship with food and learning which foods help decrease inflam-mation, provide consistent en-ergy and promote healthy blood sugar. Blood sugar volatility from reactive hypo-glycemia (drops in blood sugar) to hypergly-cemia (too much blood sugar) runs rampant in our society. Sugar cravings and increased appetite follow the blood sugar roller coaster. Fasting blood sugar and insulin lev-els provide information about an individual’s blood sugar balance. It is noteworthy that when insulin levels are high, individuals often struggle with weight problems. Insulin is an anabolic hormone and promotes the growth of fat cells. Insulin resistance means that blood sugar is high and the cells are not responsive to insulin. Normally insulin acts like a gatekeeper to bring glucose into the cells. When an individual becomes insulin resistant the glucose cannot get into the cells as easily and provide energy. When there is insulin resistance there is a loss of the feeling of being full or satiated and you constantly feel hungry. Insulin resistance contributes to weight gain because your fat cells are overfed and your muscle cells are starving. Insulin resistance contributes to diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancers. When an individual is struggling with insulin resistance, s/he is often fatigued, craves sugar, gains weight and is tired after eating. Stress and hypoglycemia affect the adre-

nal glands. When an individual does not eat regularly and becomes reactively hypoglyce-mic, the adrenals release cortisol. When an individual is stressed, cortisol is released as the demand for glucose is increased. Reac-tive hypoglycemia means low blood sugar two to four hours after eating caused by fluctuations in insulin and cortisol. A person typically struggling with reactive hypoglycemia misses meals, depends on coffee to keep going, eats foods high in sugar, craves sweets and salts, crashes mid afternoon, has difficulty getting up in the morning and cannot sleep through the night. What can I do to lose weight, stabilize my blood sugar and reduce stress? 1. See your doctor, get a physical and have your labs checked. When evaluating an individual for blood sugar problems, I look at a complete blood count, metabolic panel, lipid panel, C-reac-tive protein and Vitamin D. 2. If you want to lose one pound per week, then it is important to decrease your calories by 500 per day. This means taking time to determine or be aware of the amount of calories in the foods you eat, plus add moderate exercise.

3. When creating a diet for yourself, take into account foods with a low glycemic load. The glycemic load (GL) is a number that lets you know how a particular food affects your blood sugar based upon the amount of the carbohydrate that you eat. Foods that are mostly water or air will not cause a significant rise in your blood sugar. Some examples of low glycemic load foods in-clude: apples, watermelon, carrots, beets. It is important to keep the glycemic load less than 20 for a three-hour period. 4. Increase fiber in your diet. Fiber reduces hunger and helps you feel full. Soluble fiber slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates consequently prevents rapid increases in blood sugar. Some examples of soluble fiber include fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds. 5. I have found Natural Factors PGX supplement to be a successful fiber supplement to help balance blood sugar and increase satiety.* Drink lots of water whenever you supplement with fiber. 6. I recommend a multiple vitamin which includes the following to support insulin sensitivity: chromium, vanadium, magnesium, zinc, gymnema sylvestre. Chromium is essential for insulin resistance as it optimizes glucose uptake into the cell. It is often depleted in a diet high in refined sugars. Vanadium is a mineral that supports the glucose transporter in bringing glucose into the cell membrane. Magnesium opti-mizes insulin secretion. Magnesium is often low in the diets of diabetics. Zinc protects against beta cell destruction in the pan-creas and plays an important role in insulin metabolism. Gymnema may reduce insulin requirements, enhance the action of insulin

and decrease fasting glucose. The most important addition to a multiple vitamin is 200mcg’s of chromium. 7. Exercise represents an important component in maintaining weight and reducing stress. Movement helps us to feel alive. The most important aspect of exercise is to start and be consistent. It takes 21 days to incorporate a new habit. I recommend that you exercise four-five days a week and do something you enjoy. You may want to start with brisk walking 20 minutes a day. 8. Utilize visualization or hypnotherapy to picture and imagine yourself at your ideal healthy weight. Identify the obstacles in the way of achieving your goals and dis-cover solutions. Become aware of options to get your needs met. Visualize how you are achieving health and practice the steps. Create a journal of your successes. If you get off track, begin again. 9. Take time every day to breathe, meditate or simply be. It may be helpful to supplement with adaptogenic herbs to support your adrenals. Adaptogens include Rhodiola, Ashwaganda, Ginseng, Maca, etc. Reach out to a nutritionist or naturopathic physician to plan and help you receive the support you need to be successful in trans-forming your relationship with food.

tectable impact on changes in every cell of our body. There are proteins that as-sociate with the DNA and it is these proteins that deter-mine the expression pattern of these genes. Proteins are incredibly sensitive to their environment and the slight-est change in the environ-ment results in significant changes to their activity. A crucial factor in our en-vironment is how we choose to perceive our environment. Everyone is in complete con-trol of their own perception of reality. We can certainly feel the difference in our body when we are relaxed or when we are tense. If we perceive our situation to be positive and ideal for healing then this changes the envi-ronment within our body. This directly influences cel-lular events and consequent-ly our health. When someone is actively trying to improve

their health, regardless of what the medical condition is, the goal is to change cell metabolism so that balance can be restored. Almost a decade ago I discovered my healing ability quite by accident, through a desire to help relieve my Mom’s pain and suffering from multiple sclerosis. Even to this day it is a mystery to me as to why I have these abilities. Perhaps I have connected to my healing ability from my aboriginal shaman ancestry as I am related to my tribe’s last known tribal shaman healer. I have had the privilege of participating as an invited healer in many sacred healing rituals, which have shaped my approach to energy healing. In an attempt to scien-tifically understand what I experience, I have graduated from university in molecular biology and biochemistry and am now studying to

become a naturopathic doctor. I am fascinated by the dynamic nature of all molecules of life. Metabo-lism is based on enzyme activity and these enzymes are directly influenced by our intentions and thoughts. There is no such thing as an idle or neutral thought. This should be a huge motiva-tion for everyone to practice positive thoughts and inten-tions. When I first experienced healing with energy, the per-son receiving the energy was in the same physical room as me. Then I learned how to do distant healing and un-derstood that distance is not a factor. What we perceive as separateness in physi-cal terms is illusory as we are all part of an intercon-nected field of information. This is the basic premise of how distant energy healing works. It was during this time that I helped musician Ronnie Hawkins, friend of

Your intentions help you heal President Bill Clinton and John Lennon alike, recover from terminal pancreatic cancer and Dr. Edgar Mitch-ell, astronaut and founder of IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences) heal from kidney cancer. After several inter-national television shows, interviews and articles such as in Rolling Stone Maga-zine, I became well-known in healing. As I am able to perceive or “see” how energy moves, I have discovered the potential of visualizations. I can “see” that healing is an innate and teachable skill and that every one of us can use to maximize our own healing potential through in-

tentions. The most effective way to focus your intentions on healing is to visualize the healing process happening. Visualizations are focused intentions and they are a means to consciously focus intentions on healing. Your cells are conscious organisms that do everything possible to maximize their contribution to your health and well being. Every cell in your body is functioning together for the benefit of you, the whole organism. This knowledge is very em-powering because you have the power to influence every biochemical event that oc-curs in your body. Molecular biology is finally beginning

to confirm what everyone has known for thousands of years; that your intentions influence your health. So take the time to clear your mind and talk with your cells because they are certainly listening to what you have to say.

Adam is the author of four books about using intention to heal as well as a DVD that offers visualizations to use. See reviews in this publi-cation or check with your local bookstore. He will be conducting a healing work-shop in Seattle Oct. 25. For details or to register, go to www.dreamhealer.com.

tion in string instruments, my parents allowed me to express my potential. As we grow older we rely on our-selves to break free from the limitations of self-doubt and entertain the full symphony of our own potential. No one can express your potential but you. Your vision, your drive, your confidence work in concert with your spirit to express the crescendo of your abilities in harmonious orchestration by living a life worthy of all your talents. You are the conductor hold-ing the baton of purpose and directing your life.

Freedom to grow

An adolescent told me once that his pet alligator would never outgrow the fish tank he called home. He said that alligators only grow to the size of their con-tainer. While I don’t know if this holds true or not, it presents an interesting spiri-tual consideration. When you examine the expanse of the container of your spirit,

you gauge your ability to change and grow from the allowance of space permit-ted yourself. If you limit your spiritual environment to a small community of like minded individuals, this may feed your soul, but leave you hungry for the nutrients only bountiful gardens can provide. When you sow the seeds of possibility and hunger for more knowledge, information and wisdom, you expand the harvest of your life to include a wide variety of endeavors and experiences.

Freedom to love

So often, we consider ourselves unworthy of love. In humble self-deprecation, we hear ourselves deny our lovability, or become embarrassed when someone acknowledges how much we mean to them. As Gerald Jampolsky pointed out, “Love is the total absence of fear.” When we live in fear, we live not only outside of love, but inside the confines of stagnation. In giving our-selves the freedom to love

– to give, to receive, and truly accept love – we fill our lives with the warmth that only sincere expres-sions of emotion bring. Louise Hay teaches us that we are the only thinker in our minds. You alone are responsible for your thoughts, whether they em-power you or destroy your spirit. The freedom of your mind knows no boundary but what you draw around you. When we use the power of attitude to view life in a more positive way, we find we free ourselves from the doubt of our potential; we allow ourselves to continue to learn and grown in mag-nificent ways and to experi-ence love to our fullest and best imagination.

Freedom of the MindContinued from Page 12

“What would you do if you had five hundred and twenty-five thousand and change that you could spend any way you wanted to?” When I read that opening line in a re-cent e-mail, my mind shot into overdrive and I began visualizing travel destina-tions. I pictured myself strolling across the lush Irish countryside and sipping a frothy cappuccino at a sidewalk café in Paris. But then I reached the second paragraph and reality wiped away my daydreams. “If you live twelve more months, you are going to have 525,000 minutes to invest. Many of us have been trained to invest a great amount of that commodity in rehearsing our past, cursing a circumstance, nursing a problem, or fueling resentment. If we are not careful we will spend our time do-ing just that.” Ah, the author of the e-mail, inspirational speaker and writer Mary Manin Morrissey, wasn’t talking about dollars. In that day’s message, part of a series called “Daily Dream Builders,” Morrissey was talking about how we use our time. Not the way we fill time with activities, but the time we waste on negative thinking instead of investing it in uplifting thoughts. I learned the downside of negative thinking when I worked as a special education teacher for an under-funded organization. After teaching all day, I brought my work prob-

lems home with me. During the evening I mentally rehashed that day’s crises and complained to every-one who would listen. By investing my off work hours fretting and fuming, I never enjoyed a respite from the stressful issues that filled my workdays. Sadly, all my mental storming never resolved a single issue. Our minds work in mysterious ways. While it seems logical to assume the conscious part of our minds play the biggest role in creating our thought pat-terns and making decisions, research shows the oppo-

site is true. An article in US News & World Report states that cognitive neuroscientists believe, “we are conscious of only about

five percent of our cognitive activity . . . most of our decisions, actions, emotions, and behavior depends on the 95 percent of brain activity that goes beyond our conscious awareness.” According to Carl Jung, the mind is like an iceberg. The conscious mind (the tip of the iceberg)

handles voluntary actions (moving our legs or scratching our nose), logic (figuring out your chances of getting a pay increase) and reasoning (calculating a server’s tip). The largest portion of the iceberg, the piece lying deep beneath the water, symbolizes the un-conscious. That section may be out of sight, but has a greater influence on our beliefs and actions than our conscious mind. Alas, the unconscious does not always work in our favor. Let’s say we consciously decide to take one action, such as signing up for a yoga class, and our unconscious sabotages our endeavor. It appears like we are mistakenly double booking our sched-ule, forgetting the class time or convincing ourselves that we’ll never learn to cross our arms and balance on one foot, so why try. Maybe we once saw yoga poses in a maga-zine and thought, “I could never be that flex-ible.” Or we saw a slender woman in clingy yoga pants and imagined how our bulges would look sausaged into a 100% cotton cas-ing. Writings of psychologists, including Erik Erikson, suggest that the unconscious taps into those old stockpiled thought patterns about our flexibility and self-image and uses them to sabotage our goal of regularly at-tending yoga class. If we really want to take that yoga class, we can stop our unconscious mind from sabotaging us by investing time in positive

visualizations, affirmations and thinking. The goal is to reprogram our minds with constructive thoughts and images. Creative visualization is the process of imagining what we want to have hap-pen. Another term for the process could be positive daydreaming. To change our unconscious view about learning yoga or any other activity, we need to create mental images of ourselves doing it with ease and grace. Positive affirmations are short declarative statements that target negative beliefs and replace them with constructive encourage-ment. Affirmations should be positive, stat-ed in the present tense and focus on what we want and not on what we don’t want. For instance, we could say, “As I practice yoga, I become more limber and graceful.” Negative thoughts are the insidious chatter that steals our joy, questions our commitment or challenges our self-worth. To counter that type of thinking we can add the phrase, “up until now.” For example, “My balance is terrible” changes to “Up until now my balance has been terrible.” That little three-word inclusion opens our minds to change and improvement. Mary Oliver ends her poem, “The Sum-mer Day,” with a wonderful life-affirming question: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” While I love that line, sometimes looking at a birth-to-death plan can be overwhelming. What if we changed that sentence and asked ourselves, “What is it I plan to do with this one wild and precious day?” How are you going to spend your daily allotment of 1,440 minutes?

Man by his very nature is an unclutched and blissful being. What do we mean by the word unclutched? Let me explain. Every thought that arises in us is like a bubble that forms, rises and dies before the next thought comes up. For example, if you are sitting in a chair and suddenly get up, the moment you have decided to get up, that mo-ment the thought of sitting has left you. If you are working on your computer and decide to shut down the machine, that moment, the thought that you want to work has died. So every thought is unconnected and happens in a series, one after the other. One has to die before the next one comes up. This is our true nature. Our true nature is to renounce thoughts every passing moment. By renounce, I mean simply allowing each thought to rise like a bubble and burst and allowing the next thought to rise. Our thoughts have only a vertical existence, like rising bubbles. This process of allowing thoughts to rise and die without trying to connect them is what we mean by being unclutched. As long as this natural process is allowed to happen, things are all right.

But what we do is, we start connecting these thoughts randomly and form a shaft. By doing this, we convert a vertical and unclutched process into a horizontal one with linear connectivity. Here starts the whole problem. As long as each thought is allowed to rise and die, we can take on any amount of load at the physical and mental planes and our consciousness will remain light and blissful. Once we start connect-ing thoughts, our consciousness suffers and we start feeling burdened. It becomes damaging to our being. All emotions like worry, lust, discontent-ment, jealousy, fear, ego and attention, are purely because we find a connection between independent incidents, between independent thoughts, and create a con-cept for ourselves and start relating with that concept. We create an imaginary shaft with our thoughts and suffer because of this. These emotions create all forms of violence, be they religious wars, social con-flicts, or political unrest. The basis or the roots of all forms of violence is our emo-tions and the basis of our emotions is our habit of creating imaginary shafts of our thoughts and empowering them to work on us. While creating these shafts, we choose the thoughts depending on whether we want pain or pleasure. We pick pleasant thoughts at random and connect them to form a shaft of pleasure or pick negative thoughts and connect them to form a shaft of pain. We create shafts of pain and plea-sure alternately for ourselves, and oscillate between these two emotions. To unclutch from this tendency is the master key to a blissful life. If you deeply analyze how we connect our thoughts instead of renouncing them, you will understand how we create suffer-ing for ourselves. It is the mind that finds the connection. As such, there is no con-nection between our thoughts. We have been trained to feed on words and thoughts. That is why we create these shafts. We feed on words because we oper-ate out of fear or greed all the time. Out of fear or greed, we create connectivity in our thoughts. We are afraid to let go of this pro-cess because if we let go, there is nothing to hold on to. We have never experienced an unclutched state of mind where there is no shaft, only bubble-like thoughts. In the unclutched state there is no scope for fear or greed. You will simply be, that’s all. But it becomes difficult to understand that we can exist without this shaft of thoughts. An eye specialist was treating a blind man. He assured him, “Once I operate on your eye, you will have your vision back and you can throw your stick away.” The blind man became afraid when he

Isn’t it time you stopped listening to your mind chat-ter and started listening to what your soul is longing to tell you? Sometimes the signals of a soul letting you know you may be off course can show up in challenges in health, relationship, finances,

weight, chaos, stress, depression, ADD, anxiety, unresolved trauma, diffi-culty focusing, procrastina-tion or in not knowing your purpose. These are a few examples of distractions from what is really impor-tant for our fulfillment. If our focus, attention and energy are on these signals, as if the signal were the

issue to solve, we will miss the bigger message of the soul. These issues that we think we are to solve are merely portals to real heal-ing. Is your focus on solving the symptom or is it on dis-covering how the symptom can guide you back on soul track? How do we stray from our soul’s course? We uncon-

sciously create a life course based on our fear of emo-tional history repeating itself combined with the pain of the love we didn’t get. This combination of fear and pain begins to run us (this is the baggage that our mind chatter draws from), taking us off the course of our soul. Once we are in this state of unconsciousness, we lose

heard this. He asked the doctor, “I understand that I will get my vision, but how can I walk without my stick?” The man was so used to walking with the stick that he could not understand that by getting the vision he could throw away the stick. In the same way, when the truth is that we can live in an unclutched fashion blissfully, we wonder how. We see unclutching thought shafts as inevitable. We fail to see how mythi-cal the whole thing is. Our mind is a myth. We have empowered it and become a slave to it, that’s all. It is nothing but mental slavery. Just watch the thoughts rising in you. Clearly see how each thought rises and dies and the next thought comes up. Observe how you effortlessly connect these thoughts and create ideas and concepts. Watch the play of these concepts upon yourself; you will understand how you create the whole myth. I tell you: Connecting thoughts is the Original Sin. Living in an unclutched fashion is the way to a bliss-ful living. Just decide that you will not connect any two thoughts, that you will not pass any judgment on any thought or any incident. When you work in an unclutched fashion, you will find your capacity expand-ing; you will take on a lot more responsibility without getting stressed; you will not experience mood swings between pain and pleasure; you will be blissful all the time. We are so used to happiness that comes with a reason. This reason is again a shaft that we create with our thoughts. Once you stop creating these shafts, you will be blissful all the time.

Paramahamsa Nithy-ananda will be coming to the Seattle area on Oct. 6, 2009 for the Kalpataru pro-gram, a one-day medita-tion workshop designed to give the energy and clarity to live blissfully. Please see www.yogam4you.org for more information.

our spiritual way. Part of waking up is knowing that your child-hood was not about you, it was about following the rules of your home and your parents’ own fear and feel-ings of survival. It was about your parents not know-ing how to love, connect, nurture, see, and understand the miracle of who you are. Your childhood was about what they didn’t know, not your lovability. Letting go of these perceptions that you believe to be true as a result of what went on in your home, will open the lines of higher communication to the divine. Fear can make us deaf and blind to spiritual guid-ance. The less emotional baggage, the more room we have to be present. The more present we are, the less fear we have. The less fear we have, the more available we are to hear and follow our soul’s journey. There are several avenues to guide you in moving into alignment with your soul and many reasons why you may not be connecting in the way you would like to. Sometimes folks get caught in a loop of depression or anxiety. They may need a natural supplement to bring balance to the body so that the soul work can be done with more grace and ease. Sometimes there is a trauma in the way of connecting with the soul that needs to be cleared. Sometimes fear of change or not being accepted (if you are your real self) can stop us from moving forward. Sometimes the threat of losing what you think you have can be the catalyst for not moving

forward. If you have symptoms, aches, pains, disharmony in any area, fatigue, mental fog, can’t remember short or long term, feel anxious, depressed, fearful, sad or are out of balance in any way, your soul is wanting to speak to you and bring you into alignment through healing your body. If your relationships are not what you would like them to be, your soul may be wanting to teach you something about love. If you are not feeling fulfilled in your work, or want to know your calling, your soul is there to talk with you and help you know your purpose, joy and the service of your life. We are all here to have lives that are rich as we evolve on our soul’s journey. Are you ready to step into a life that has been created for you by the divine? Your soul wants to tell you how to live vibrantly on all levels. Connecting with your soul is a cure for feeling alone. Someone skilled in soul work can guide you in asking your soul the questions that will lead to your truth. We have choices: to try and survive within the prison of our chattering mind, or to allow the guidance and majesty of your soul to illuminate your destiny? What will you choose?

High school graduation provides a time of emotional excitement in the lives of graduating seniors. Friendships, accomplish-ments, good-byes and new beginnings are all in play. One of the ways high schools offer a send off for their seniors is a high school lock-in. From early evening until the next morn-ing, the school creates a safe environment with entertainment, food, open gyms, as well as areas for conversations. I was delighted to be hired as a tarot reader at these func-tions. The students showed great pride and creativity in choosing themes for decorating common areas. The mystical areas where al-ways gosimered with soft lights and beaded curtains. My stomach would get little tickles as I set up my cards and crystals on the tables that were dressed in tapestry. There were typically three “mystics” pro-viding card readings, numerology and palm readings. The graduates would begin to form a line as soon as the setting up was done. For the entire four-hour block of scheduled time, it was a constant stream of inquisitive graduates. It did not matter if they came to the tables singly or in groups of three. The

excitement of being in the pres-ence of future information was palpable. Whether the grad had a serious demeanor or was busting out in giggles, the questions where very heart-felt.

My heart melted into loving for every one of their inquiries. “Will I get married?” “Does this person love me”, “Is the college I selected a good choice?” “What am I really good at?” As an intuitive, I worked with the cards and light information to bring answers. Since I was about two years old I have had abilities to see light and colors around peo-ple and objects. These light fields contain in-formation that plays out in images, “movies” or knowing that just come present. People may find that intriguing, but as a child it was really just freaky for those around me. The learning curve of how I receive information has continually grown and is an asset when working with my clients. Tarot is a physical tool for achieving infor-mation while working with the inner know-ing of the person who is having a reading. Their intuition is controlling which cards they draw. Combining my intuition with the other person’s “knowing” through the cards brings out the strongest aspects of the question. During one reading while addressing her absolute need for proof in her world, I was shown where the young lady asking a ques-

tion hid her brownies in her room. When I mentioned this, she burst out laughing with her two friends seated with her and they all pro-nounced this to be true. Out of the nine schools I read at, a thread within the tarot was very promi-nent and that was the nine of swords. Nine being a number of initiation and change could be anticipated in a tarot reading at this oc-casion, However the specific draw of the nine of swords caught my attention. The nine of swords speaks to “the dark night of the soul” when personal anguish cap-tures the very foundation of one’s self. It is a frightening card to see and can evoke a sense of “Oh no!” But let’s look to the deeper meaning and outcome. Even though the nine of swords depicts deep worry and sorrow, seldom is this reflected in real time but instead it is the inner work-ings of the emotions trying to find a mental vocabulary. This process can be helped with talking it out or even writing what is coming forward. It does not have to make complete sense as the emotional vocabulary has a separate language from the mental. This process takes patience AND (the big key) to learn the art of “being the

observer” to these puzzle pieces. When the lesson of not naming the emotions good or bad and seen as just another piece ready to show itself in full then the dark-ness is lessened and courage to look inside with a sense of “Oh, I see...” can come forward. Once the initiation of growth can complete itself, lightness and joy restore one’s energy to take their next step into a new beginning. The students who made the choice to attend col-leges away from home were the greatest percentage of those who drew the nine of swords. In light of this I realized that the exuberance of youth and accomplishments can obfuscate the real fear these young people are grappling with. Perhaps all of the congratulations can be balanced with personal time to give reassurance and understanding. Even with the bulletproof energy blessed to the graduate, the uncertainty can be lovingly addressed out loud coupled with the option of listening without judgment. Strategies to enter these conversations might include: • Relating personal sto-ries of moving that caused conflict within yourself. Using emotional vocabulary

is a plus! • Making a planned call-in day and time to hear about classes, new friends, and unforeseen troubles. The key in this step is listening without judgment. Once the call turns to “all about you” it may close future disclo-sures. • Make a list of people who really do care about the student. Moving away can be lonely and re-looking at the names of people who send heart loving is a great support. • Ask what the student what they feel about their choices, and again listen without judgment. Allow for this conversation about how do you feel, to change week by week as the thoughts and emotions grow into the new surroundings. If you don’t know how to respond to their feelings just say, “ I give you permission to feel that” or whatever your ver-sion of saying that may be. • And finally express excitement for the growth and newfound courage that accompanies the next step beyond the nine of swords. Were you one of those who anticipated, welcomed and celebrated the harmonic convergence in 1987? Then count yourself among the early way-showers of human evolution. The harmonic convergence was a demarcation in the sands of our mortal hourglass. Time was supposed to be running out. We were to be wrapping up this game of duality and contrasts. We had been watched (and watching) for tens of thousands of years (or for the endless now moment) to see how this dance with amnesia and desire would inform our souls. Was love going to win over fear? In 1987, fear was still ahead. Amnesia had a powerful hold on us. On the day of the harmonic convergence I was sitting in the kitchen of a dear friend. We chatted idly as our two small boys played together in the next room. My three-year old came around the corner, planted himself in front of us and said “Have you heard about the harmonic convergence? All the planets are going to line up and huge things are going to happen.” Then he turned on his heel and returned to his play. A moment of stunned silence. Then my friend said “I’d sure hate to be his second grade teacher.” Neither of us had any con-text for processing this statement other than stunned silence. But I see now, two decades

later, that this little boy came in to be a mes-senger. He was telling us to pay attention, to notice, to step up to the plate. We both did, each in our own ways, along with tens of millions of others around the planet who began to hear a different voice whispering to them. You who were the earliest bridge builders who welcomed and recognized this magnificent opportunity were joined by legions of new lightworkers-in-training. The harmonic concordance two decades later joyfully recorded that the corner had been turned and rather than proceeding to the end-times, we were going to start to rewrite the rules of this game and continue. Suddenly the lightworkers were taking off the training wheels and introducing new modalities, writing books, channeling the ascended masters like never before. Our heads and hearts began to explode. With this year’s solstice we have entered into the third wave. We are now moving from training into action. Up to this point most of us have been able to be observers. We’ve been getting a first class familiariza-tion tour for spiritual beings having a human experience. Now is when we ramp it up and start to create heaven on earth. How? The answer is that we now must get solidly grounded in our own personal truth,

discover that unique gift that only we can contribute, and give it to the world. For most of us, discover-ing this truth is no small task. I can offer these sug-gestions: If you have two choices, choose the one that makes your heart feel lighter. If you find yourself losing your sense of time because you are so absorbed in what you are doing, do more of that.

If you are doing things that leave you feeling tired, de-pleted and empty, find a way to stop. (If you think of this as saying yes to something lighter, it’s easier to say no.) Next, pursue those heal-ing modalities that really help you to get rid of belief systems that no longer serve your personal evolution. We all have BS (belief systems) to deal with, and until we untie the lines that bind us to these beliefs, we will be

stuck on the ground in our hot air balloon of evolution. There are so many modalities available to us – tapping – the emotional freedom technique, network chiropractic, reiki, crystal healing, hypnosis, chakra balancing, cranio-sacral therapy; I could go on and on. Not every system is for everyone, but all of these systems work brilliantly for some of us. Find the one that resonates with you and

embracea practice with it. Clear your BS so that you can get totally in touch with your truth. Then go out and give your gift to the world. As we do our work, discovering our gifts one by one, the group con-sciousness expressed in our economic, political and social realities is transmog-rifying at a stunning rate. We need to, and will, evolve brand new ways of govern-

ing, systems of economic exchange, and ways of relat-ing to each other on earth. All of these changes depend on us getting in touch with our gift; that which we will contribute to the new earth. It is happening right before our eyes. For a few years now I have been hearing the phrase “Give the best that you have to give and take what you need.” I’m begin-ning to understand what this means now that I can see each of us doing exactly this; freely giving our best with the full expectation

and assurance that what we need will be freely given by someone else. So here is the to do list: Work on identifying your truth;clear your BS; find your gift; give it freely. Once we have been doing this for – oh, three or four years – we’re going to find our-selves in heaven on earth.

Intention Heals – A Guide and Workbook

Dreamhealer, Visualizations for Self-Empowerment (DVD)

By AdamDreamHealer, Inc.

This is the fourth book and first video by the healer known as Adam. The book “continues the theme of joining science and ancient wisdom as our awareness moves toward the goal of the scientist and mystic being of one mind. The logic is simple. Our thoughts are energy. Intention is focused thought which affects all physical matter. Once you decide to take control of your mind which in turn regulates your body, then you will be in control.” Adam first discovered his healing abilities at the age of 15 when he healed his mother

of her symptoms of multiple scle-rosis. Since then he has worked with thousands of people, helping them access their own self-heal-ing abilities. He has worked with people such as Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Dr. Bruce Lipton, and Dr. Lee Pulos, all three of whom acknowl-edge Adam’s healing abilities. In all four of his books, he gives very specific information about how to use the powers of intention and visualization to heal oneself. Two of the books, “The Path of the Dream Healer” and “The Emerging Dreamhealer” have pictures to help the reader learn how to visualize their body healing. The video brings this to life and would be very helpful to people who have difficulty visualizing as well as to those who enter the state more easily. I have not seen a video like this one before and found it very powerful. All of these materials are incredibly well

balanced, compassionate, and detailed, giv-ing wonderful roadmaps to follow. Whether you want to heal cancer, stop smoking, sleep better, or lose weight, Adam’s tech-niques found in these materials are bound to be helpful and supportive in your quest. Adam will be in Seattle in October. Details cam be found at www.dreamhealer.com.

This is a fun and dif-ferent sort of product that you will enjoy using or gifting. There are nine differ-ent bags to choose from and each contains 52 wooden discs, each having a word on them. Words are positive and uplifting, such as: fun, confidence, joy, delightful, explore, encourage, accept, appreciate. The idea is to choose a disc every day, week, or when you want a word to uplift or inspire you regarding a particular issue. Children can also enjoy using them and car-rying their choice with them to remind them of the thought for that day. It would also be fun to let clients choose one after a session of some kind to keep as a token. The bags to choose from are great and in-clude a butterfly muslin one with tiny beads and sequins, classic denim, black leather-ette, camouflage, Asian floral, leopard print, and a few different satins. Words2Savor are fun, unusual, and well priced. You can see them at words2savor.com.

weigh in during the movie: Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, James Van Praagh and others talk about the existence of the shadow and its importance. There are some very inspirational stories shared by people who have done this using the Shadow Pro-cess. If you only view the movie you might be disappointed like a writer who posted to Debbie Ford’s website. He was very frustrated because while the movie helped him recognize that he needs to deal with his shadow, it did not help him actually do it. He felt the movie was basically an infomer-cial. There is an interactive version of the movie that really needs to be used along with the movie. The interactive version takes the next step and actually walks the viewer through the process of uncovering and dealing with one’s shadow. Both versions are very well done and can provide some great support for people who want to face their shadow self once and for all. This is a great use of current-day tech-nology to help people move forward with their lives.

The Hope: A Guide to Sacred ActivismBy Andrew HarveyHay House

Finally, someone has written a book that blends the worlds of spiritual-ity and activism, and does it very well. Andrew Har-vey is an interna-tionally acclaimed poet, novelist, translator, mystical scholar, and spiri-tual teacher who has published over 20 books. The first part of the book gives us the background of how Harvey came to his own realizations about being able to blend his spiritual process with the needs of today’s world. The second part gives us what he calls the seven laws for sacred activism. These cover everything from the necessity of incorporating a spiritual practice into your life, to transforming anger into wise energy, to the importance of what he calls networks of grace. He explains that neither the practical work of the activist nor the passive spiritu-ality of the individual is enough to change the world. The two must be fused to affect the profound change that is necessary. The Hope comes at a perfect time to teach us how to be conscious agents for change and gives us a plan to do so. The book is being embraced by many well-known spiritual teachers and activists and Harvey is even drawing the attention of the United Nations where he will present his vision this month.

while leveraging everyone’s capabilities and serving everyone’s needs. The synergy, genera-tive energy, intelligence, and creativity that result from collaboration can be astounding, and the process is fun and fulfilling in itself.

8. Facilitate. Facilitate means “to make easy.” Facilitating is key to collaboration and to getting along with others in general. Facilitation catalyzes the wisdom of the group and fosters decisions that engage the hearts and minds of all involved, to generate unified action. We can embody facilitative be-haviors whether we are serving as a facilitator or as a participant in a collaboration.

9. Integrate. Integration is both an internal experience and one of connecting the internal with the exter-nal. It involves “digesting” our experiences and incorporating lessons, ideas, insights, skills, etc. into our being. It also challenges us to recog-nize and address hindrances to our growth, to face aspects of ourselves we may not want to acknowledge. Integration calls for courageous self-reflection and cultivation. It requires effort – to practice what we learn – and delivers im-measurable returns. It is fulfilling and energiz-ing, like plugging in the lights after setting up the holiday decorations: we get to take in the whole experience.

10. Go for it! I encourage you to get out your calendar or agenda and use it to map out your next steps. Reach out to mentors, advisors, and peers for guidance and support and return to the place within yourself where you connect with the passion, sense of purpose, awareness, and energy to sustain you on your journey. Here’s some wisdom shared by Joseph Camp-bell. “A bit of advice given to a young Native American at the time of his initiation: ‘As you go the way of life, you will see a great chasm. Jump. It’s not as wide as you think.’ ”

Excellent as You AreA Woman’s Book of Confidence, Comfort, and StrengthBy Sue Patton ThoeleConari Press

This is one of those books that could stand on its own simply be-cause of the title. We are, indeed, excellent as we are. Fortunately, the author did write the book, though, because it is not only a visually beautiful book, it is also very inspiring and supportive. The book offers insightful stories and motivational quotes

drawn from the author’s meditation book, The Woman’s Book of Confidence. The words are accompanied by some of the most beautiful photos of flowers I have ever seen. Just looking at the photos brings a sense of peace and wholeness. Combined with the thoughts, it is a smashing success. This would make a fabulous gift for yourself or a friend and is a great little book to keep close by for quick pick-me-ups during the day.

On The Bookshelf Within You Without YouJourney Into StillnessMusic CD by Gary Stroutsos with guest David LanzWhite Swan Records

The song “Within You Without You” was originally written and recorded by George Harrison in the ’60s after he returned from a trip to India. It was a 30-minute raga which is revisited in a 16-minute version on this recording. The

words to the original song are printed in the liner notes and we are reminded that the lyrics are as relevant today as they were in 1967. Gary Stroutsos is a well-known wood-wind master whose home is in the Pacific Northwest. His music always carries a bit of the trees and ocean and this album is no dif-ferent. Besides the title piece there are eight more to round out the 63-minute CD. The pieces are quiet and meditative and include the use of Chinese flutes, cello, percussion and koto. The overall tone is oth-erworldly, calming, and soul-satisfying and I would expect nothing less from Stroutsos and Lanz.

SEPTEMBER 200920 NEW Spirit JOURNAL

By Jeff Klein

Many of us aspire and dedicate ourselves to Working for Good, making the world a better place through our work. The essence of Work-ing for Good is a calling, a sense of passion and purpose that stirs us to action from deep inside. It is based on the belief that what we do matters, that we can make a difference; for ourselves, others, and the world. In my pursuit and practice of Working for Good over the past three decades, I’ve found that how we work is as, if not more, impor-tant than what we do. We can work in a green business, a social service organization, or some other endeavor focused on making the world a better place, but if we treat others and ourselves with disregard or disrespect in the process, we end up creating something far short of our intention. The process is the product. Following are10 tips for fostering a way of working that aligns with what we want to create in the world.

1. Cultivate your mind. Awareness is the most important tool for working for good. As the Buddha said, “Mind is the forerunner of all things.” What we think is what we manifest, and how we think affects how we act. Awareness practice supports us to observe and choose how we respond to experiences. As we observe the effects of our words and actions, and the effects of others on us, we can respond explicitly and purposefully, even if it means overriding our conditioning, predisposi-tions, and tendencies. In addition to increasing presence, connect-edness, and creativity, cultivating your mind reduces stress, increases clarity, and promotes steadiness and a sense of ease.

2. Stand for something. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. Purpose is the big “why” underly-ing what we do. It is an activating, motivating, and animating force. It is what moves us to get up in the morning to dive into life with our full being. Purpose sustains us when times get tough and serves as a guiding star when we stray off course. Purposeful people build purposeful com-panies and make an impact through whatever their work or role may be. Want to work for good? Then stand for something.

3. Know your bottom line. Thomas Jefferson said, “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Principles are the values, universal truths, and moral standards guiding our behavior. They represent what we are willing to stand up for and ensure that we respect others and the world in our pursuits. Want to make the world a better place through your work? Then stand on the bedrock of principles that reflect the kind of world you envision, share these principles with others, and support each other to act in accordance with them.

4. Get real. Business is based on relationships. Rela-tionships are based on trust. Trust is based on alignment between words and actions, or authenticity. Authenticity reflects embodied awareness. So, begin with awareness, stand for something, act according to principles, and deepen your practice of working for good.

5. Embrace interdependence. Naturalist John Muir observed that, “When you tug at a single thing in nature, you find it attached to the rest of the world.” When we “just do one thing,” we are always doing more

than that, since no one thing exists unto itself, separate from all else. By consider-ing interdependence in our work, we can purposefully build an intricate web of rela-tionships, recognizing the meaningful role all parts play, distributing responsibility, authority, and accountability, and address-ing the needs, interests, and perspectives of all stakeholders.

6. Listen. Really listen. Apply your awareness to suspend your own thoughts, feelings, opinions, perspec-

tives, interests, and objectives. You can always pick them up again. Listen with all of your senses to hear what others re-ally want to express. Perceive the fears, concerns, and motivations behind what they are expressing. Be genuinely curious, asking them questions to help them to fully express themselves. You’ll get your turn, and you’ll speak from a place that reflects, relates to, and builds on what others have to say, cultivating the ground for real con-versation, exploration, and collaboration.

7. Collaborate It takes a village to raise a child. It takes a community to raise a barn. And it takes collaboration between many individuals and organizations to make a real difference in the world. Identify others who share vision and intention. Invite them to explore. Bring your resources and capabili-ties to the table. And see what you can do together to advance your shared vision,
