DRX9000 Sp ina l Decompress ion provides relief to severe back and neck pain sufferers by gently reducing the pressure within spinal discs. As the vertebrae are separated pressure is slowly reduced within the disc until a vacuum is formed. This vacuum “sucks” the gelatinous center of the disc back inside thereby reducing the discbulge or disc herniation. Significant disc bulge reduction removes pressure off the spinal nerves and drastically reduces pain and disability. The treatment motion is computer controlled to provide gentle and painless decompression of the injured spinal discs.
The DRX9000 incorporates advanced
angulated elongation methods to target specific discs of the spine. “Angulated Elongation” refers to the angle at which the healing decompression force is applied.
This allows the treatment to rely less on brute force and more on finesse to rehabilitate individual spinal discs.

Our meal started with flatbread served with two dipping sauces. A beet-red sauce made from beets, avocado, and vinegar and a green sauce made from cilantro, garlic, and vinegar. The beet sauce was earthy with the characteristic beet flavor dominating, but very good. The green sauce was tastefully tart of vinegar and cilantro, with a subtle kick brought on by the garlic.
The chicken kabob was flavorfully seasoned and cooked to perfection. One might expect breast pieces to be dry, but on the contrary, these were tender and moist. It was served with a

generous helping of brown basmati rice. A salad of romaine lettuce, sliced cucumbers, and tomatoes rounded the meal.
The mantoo were dumplings that are wrapped curiously similar to Chinese won-ton dumplings. The stuffing of seasoned ground beef and onions was exceptionally flavored. Roughly 10-12 dumplings are served on a
plate smothered with plain yogurt and a brown gravy sauce that included diced carrots and peas. The service was polite and the food was excellent.

I graduated from UCSF in 1975 and opened a family practice in San Jose where I treated patients for twenty-nine years before I opened a new office here in Elk Grove. During the last several years I have concentrated more on cosmetic treatment and creating beautiful smiles. This has lead me to take advanced courses related to bite position, TMJ problems, muscle pain, and electronic computerized diagnostics. I have become aware of the tremendous consequences of a compromised airway caused by chronically enlarged ton-sils and adenoids, as well as by allergies. Severe malocclusions can often be avoided with timely intervention in young children.
I believe I have become a very well rounded general dentist and that I have an unusually good understanding of the several factors that influence one’s ability to function well dentally, to be pain free (including many types of headaches), to have an attractive facial profile, and to have a beautiful smile. If you have experienced a high level of anxiety or absolute fear of going to the dentist in the past – and this has made it impossible to get the dental care you have needed – we can definitely help you. We can make you totally comfort-able using sedation dentistry. The time you spend in the dental chair will seem to absolutely fly by.
The new office that we opened about six years ago here in Elk Grove is a relatively small office with only myself and a few experienced staff. It is very personal and comfortable. We are not a high volume clinic and we make time to welcome new people into our family of patients. We promise to provide
exceptional service in a low stress, low pressure, high interest and high trust environment. Come visit us today!
Thank you, Richard D. Winter, D.D.S.

This year marks the 35th year that the Elk Grove Food Bank Services has been privileged to serve those who do not have enough resources to feed themselves and their families. The Food Bank offers a multitude of services to alleviate its clients’ immediate c h a l l e n g e s a n d move them toward self-sufficiency. In addition to basic h u m a n s e r v i c e s such as emergency food and clothing, E G F B S p r o v i d e s t h e f o l l o w i n g programs:
• Helping Hand offers information and referral.
• Support Works For Women, a women’s empowerment program.
• Senior Brown Bag provides a monthly supplemental bag of nutritional groceries to low income seniors 60 and over.
• Wellness Bag delivers groceries to homebound individuals
• The Mobile Pantry program reaches the underserved migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families in the Franklin area, south of Elk Grove.
All services are provided free of charge to the community. The Food Bank distributed boxes and bags of emergency groceries to over 38,000 people in 2008. Forty-two percent of
clients served were children under the age of nineteen. Eight percent were infants and toddlers under four years old. Seniors comprised twelve percent and had more visits per person than younger clients. Overall the Food Bank saw a 20 to 25% increase in the past year. Over 3,500 students, families and individuals benefited from the services provided by the Clothes Closet. Approximately 32 women graduated from Support Works For Women, all taking steps toward self sufficiency.
Elk Grove Food Bank Services is more determined than ever to achieve its mission to preserve dignity against the many faces of hunger and human need. Demonstrating the true meaning of community, our volunteers donated 11,000 hours in 2008. Today, thanks to the help of community partners who donate, volunteer and advocate in the fight against hunger we are able to carry out our mission. The community objective we share is that no one should go without food—not the homeless, not our seniors, not the working poor and certainly not children.
The Food Bank is open Monday thru Thursday 10:00am–12:45pm and Tuesday 5:00pm to 7:00pm at 8820 Elk Grove Boulevard. Please call (916) 685-8453 for more information or visit us at www.elkgrovefoodbankservices.org.

Recreational youth sports leagues are an invaluable part of any community. Keep-ing them running smoothly involves fees and other incidental costs, which un-fortunately eliminates underprivileged children from the play-ing field. The Elk Grove Youth Sports Founda-tion (EGYSF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created in 2007 by Elk Grove Councilmember Gary Davis, when it was brought to his attention that a parent could not afford the league fees that would enable her child to play soccer. He enlisted the aid of a group of concerned residents, and together they formed EGYSF with the mission of ensuring that
all Elk Grove children have an equal op-portunity to be involved in sports.
EGYSF provides annual scholarships for children age 5 to 12 for a variety of ath-
letic activities including soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, basketball, foot-ball and cheerleading. All necessary expenses are covered, so that every child will have the oppor-tunity to participate. Now
the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation offers an avenue for all children to learn the life-long lessons of self-confidence, an active lifestyle and working together as a team. For more information, please visit www.egysf.org.

While many students are going back to school, Sylvan students are moving forward!
FOUNDED IN 1987 as a grass-roots effort to support Elk Grove’s youth, the Elk Grove Community Founda-tion has grown significantly in its vision of support for the community it serves. Since its beginning, the Elk Grove Community Foundation has generated, managed, endowed, and distributed post-secondary scholarships to the area’s youth. While continuing to expand that primary function in terms of size of scholarships as well as the numbers of students as-
sisted, the Foundation is at a turning point in looking toward expansion into other areas of support to our community.
In 2008, scholarships totaling $168,500 were awarded to 184 area students. The scholarships that are generated and managed through the Elk Grove Community Foun-dation vary considerably in both amount of award and in the profiles of intended recipients.
