I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to any of you who were upset that the announcement of the closure and notifi-cation of last mass was not announced at all masses before it was made public in the Times Villager. I take full responsibility for this. Again I apologize for any hurt feelings I may have caused.

The Pastoral Council also approved the moving of all masses, weekend, weekday, funerals, weddings, holy days, and confes-sions from the St. Aloysius site to the St. Mary site. The last mass at St. Aloysius church will be the Christmas masses of 2015. During this time our hope is that we will celebrate and reflect upon all that had occurred at St. Aloysius, and like Mary treasure them in our hearts. Like Mary, Joseph and Jesus, may we attach ourselves more closely to continuing the mission of Jesus through our faith-filled prayer, service to our neighbor and our generous sharing. I am currently putting together a committee to celebrate the many blessings experienced at St. Aloysius parish.

Coming Soon: Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother” with Dr. Edward Sri. You will be introduced to the Blessed Mother on a personal level and will see how scripture, history, and Jewish culture reveal the sorrows, anxieties, and joys Mary would have felt in her heart. 1st Thursday of the month, beginning October 1: 1:00 PM or 6:30 PM at the St. Aloysius site.

Coming Soon: Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom with Jeff Cavins & Sarah Christmyer. This is a twenty part Bible study. Acts is a story of hope. It’s the story of how a few Christians empowered by the Holy Spirit were chosen to bring Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth. They taught as Christ did. They performed miracles as He did. Some even gave their lives for Him. They faced secular forces, internal strife, hostile crowds, and despite all of this, they brought the Kingdom of God to a broken world and the love of God to the hearts of all. 3rd Thursday of the month, beginning Sept. 17: 1:00 PM or 6:30 PM at the St. Aloysius site. Both are DVD series. Check our website www.skdchurch.org for further information. “Disciples on the Way” is an invitation from Bishop Ricken to embark on a missionary journey into the new evangelization. Here at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, we will be having our holy hour on the First Friday of each month from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at St. Aloysius Church. As we deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ, as evangelizing “Disciples on the Way,” may we grow in our call to be holy, engaged and fully alive. Our next holy hour will take place on Friday, October 2.

Peace, Fr. Jerry

Prayer Chain Ministry

What does the Parish Prayer Chain do? As Catholics, we believe that God hears and an-swers all prayers. The Parish Prayer Chain is a group of parishioners who on request will pray for any of our brothers or sisters who are in need. The need could be illness, grieving due to the loss of loved ones, un-employment, addiction, etc.

Jewish Holidays Last Sunday, the Jewish New Year , Rosh Hashanah, began at sunset. Unlike our New Year’s holiday, it is a religious celebration of God’s creation of the world and the ram’s horn sounded at various

times during their liturgy. In the Genesis story, instead of killing his son, Abraham is told to sacrifice a ram. The ram becomes a symbol of God’s mercy. Thus the repeated sound of the ram’s horn elicits remembrance of God’s mercy. This Tuesday, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, begins – a twenty-five hour fast. It is their holiest day. The evening liturgy “introduces themes of communal confession of sins, human atonement, and divine compassion” (The Encyclopedia of Jewish Symbols, Frankel and Tentsch[Lanham,MD:Janson Aronson,Inc. 1995]197). The next day, memorial prayers are said for the dead, the Book of Jonah is read, and the Book of Life, in which God writes, will be closed for another year with the final sounding of the ram’s horn(shofar). Five years ago today and things haven’t changed! Here is the bulletin article that ran

5 YEARS AGO! Do you remember when you were a little kid how sometimes words didn’t quite click? I always said the Our Fa-ther at bedtime, but until I was 11 or so, and actually saw the prayer in print, I thought there was a girl named Leeda Snot (Lead us not) in the Lord ’s Prayer. Another one was I could never figure out why we could never make “Ends Meat” (ends meet). What could be so hard about cooking this ends meat stuff! Well now that I’m older and wiser, I get the ends meet thing. With working here at church, I really get the ends meet thing! Believe it or not, you buying scrip helps the Parish’s ends meet. Please stop in. GO PACK GO!!!! With the start of football season, comes the start of tailgate season. Remember to use scrip when buying all your tailgate party needs.
