Gordon Pickard, recipient of the Order of Australia, is an important Adelaide business man, property developer and philanthropist. He is well known for his generous support of many areas including medical equipment, sport, cultural events and the Arts. Aside from his excellent business instincts, and his integral role in bringing soccer to SA, and ensuring iconic football clubs remained here, Gordon also has a love of his many travels throughout France which inspired him to sponsor our inaugural festival. We would like to thank Gordon, and express how extremely grateful we are for his sponsorship of the Auburn Frenchfest.
Neoen is a French independent producer of renewable energy and a leader in this industry on the world stage. Neoen Australia is currently planning a large development worth $3 billion with the Goyder South Wind and Solar project. This project when it is fully functioning will provide enough electricity to power a million homes. The project will save 2.1 million tonnes of CO2 every year, the equivalent of taking of the roads 872,000 cars or planting 39 million trees!
Auburn Frenchfest are thrilled to have this French company, with deep local roots involved in the inaugural festival and thank them for their generous support and sponsorship.
FRIDAYFRIDAY
The Auburn Frenchfest Committee acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we meet for this event, the Ngadjuri people, and pay respect to the Elders past, present & future.
On behalf of the Auburn Frenchfest Committee, I welcome all visitors to this inaugural Auburn event in the Paris end of the Clare Valley. We’re very excited to bring this event to the Clare Valley and thank you for your support, bonne fête (have a great festival).

THE PERFORMERS
The musical group: “Les Gitans Blancs” – “The White Gypsies” is a synergy of personalities/musicians of garish milieu, both in ethnicity as well as in musical provenience: Their repertoire represents a reflection of the general “spirit of the moment” performing on acoustic instruments infectious tunes that, (better than any iPod ever could) get into your
ear and straight into your tapping legs, clapping hands and snapping fingers. The members of this wonderful four piece gypsy jazz band are: Robert Zunic lead guitar, Tomislav Kovacev rhythm guitar, Ben Parkin double bass, and Julian Ferraretto on the violin. “Les Gitan Blancs are masters of their art” Broadway World Adelaide
LES GITANS BLANCS
Drawing on material from the French diaspora and lifetimes immersed in French culture, Les Flâneurs Volants presents songs, stories and fun from around the French world. The duo of Jean-Marc Spiler on vocals and Steve Oppes on keys/accordion are supported by John Denlay, guitar, Ian Davis, double bass, Lewis Todd,
drums and Nick Jones, sax/clarinet. Les Flâneurs Volants has a reputation for audience engagement and expressing la joie de vivre through passion, emotion & laughter.
“Looking for a lively, entertaining and hilarious show? Look no further than Jacques is Bacque; *****” weekendnotes.com
LES FLÂNEURS VOLANTS
The Auburn Frenchfest is thrilled to welcome Adelaide’s only French language theatre group, Panache. It does not matter if you cannot speak French, their shows have English subtitles, so that all can enjoy. Formed in 2014, Panache will present two performances: Encore ! 500 years of French Theatre and a Cabaret: Marseille que j’aime. Encore ! is a performance that highlight excerpts from major French plays from the 17th -21st centuries. The cabaret performance based around the hugely successful 1930s plays of Marcel Pagnol and the complementary,
contemporary operettas of Vincent Scotto/René Sarvil. The characters of the Marseille waterfront come to life in this entertaining series of vignettes, extracts and songs. Members of the Panache troupe will also be presenting the children’s Puppet shows for all to enjoy!
TROUPE PANACHE
“They were all excellent. Definitively a great night.” Facebook Review and “Madeleine, Brel’s song … was a beautifully rendered highlight, as was the delicate and poignant, La Priere – Brassens’ prayer of thanks and hope, the penultimate number in this show.” Upside Adelaide
Coro Quattro was formed in 2018 by a group of friends who like to share the joy of singing four-part harmony pieces. At this festival, Coro Quattro will sing mostly unaccompanied French music ranging from Renaissance madrigals (e.g. Ce moys de mai, Belle qui tiens ma vie) to
the superb vocal quartets of Debussy and Saint-Saens through to modern and jazz standards (e.g. Autumn Leaves, Michelle).
Coro Quattro are Nicky Bevan (soprano), Cathy Cox (alto), Christopher Simpson (tenor) and Mark Roberts (bass).
CORO QUATTRO
Auburn Frenchfest celebrates community music-making with the mellow sounds of eighteen talented, classically trained woodwinds, piano, string, harp and voice, for this festival, excitingly led by Adelaide
Elder Conservatorium trained local Leonie Moore. They will perform and entertain you with well-known and much loved compositions from French composers.
LEONIE MOORE & THE LE GRANDE ENSEMBLE
Duo / Trio Montagne are so called because the form of their repertoire is a mountain of stand-out melodies with lyrics that usually match. The sound rises above plain stuff and sticks. Montagne gets mispronounced a lot (it rhymes with lasagne) but that’s ok. Gillian is the singer and David is the guitarist and harmonica player. Sometimes they play as a trio, with Ashley on violin (who unfortunately will not be at Frenchfest). Find them busking at the
Auburn Institute (bring a $ coin or two), during the market opening times, give them a listen and show your appreciation of their talents!
TRIO MONTAGNE
“Enchanting performers Trio Montagne shone with their rendition of Charles Trenet’s Douce France (Sweet France) composed in war torn France, 1943. Their very French offering La Chanson showcases singer Gillian Hunter’s beautiful tones against David Corkill’s lovely acoustic guitar…” Glam Adelaide
