Thanks for attending the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic and welcome to Penticton. We are thrilled to partner with 5 NHL teams to provide facilities, community support and real game atmosphere for their prospects to be evaluated and demonstrate their talents. It has been amazing to watch top draft picks come to this event and dazzle us with their speed, skill, energy and talent. With over 30 players, that have played in the two previous Young Stars, now actively playing in the NHL…it showcases the amount of skill and determination the players bring to the ice in hopes of cracking the NHL.Penticton has a great hockey history and passion. It is exciting to see hockey heroes of the past; now part of team management, coaching, or scouting, also in our community. We added a business leader’s day, alumni game and minor hockey day to create more of a hockey festival theme and we look forward to growing those events. This classic wouldn’t happen without the community support, volunteers and the work of our committee members (including Global Spectrum management and the Vancouver Canucks)…so thank you.Hope you enjoy your time in Penticton.

Hunter Shinkaruk

Vancouver Canucks ProspectsYoung Stars 2013

Bo Horvat

A combination of size, speed and a deadly shot makes Nicklas Jensen one of the most electrifying players to compete at the 2013 Young Stars Classic. Drafted by the Canucks in the fi rst round, 29th overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Jensen tormented goaltenders in the Swedish Elite League during the 2012.13 season with AIK, scoring 17 goals in 50 games which led all junior-aged players league-wide.After his season abroad was over, the Denmark-born Jensen joined the AHL’s Chicago Wolves where he posted four points in 20 games, earning him a two-game call-up to the Canucks late in the season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder skated on the fi rst line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin during his fi rst NHL contest. After the 2012.13 season was over, Jen-sen joined the Denmark National Team at the IIHF World Championships where he scored two goals in three games.Prior to his time in the SEL, Jensen played two seasons with the Oshawa Generals in the OHL, where he amassed 116 points in 118 games. Jensen also ap-peared in six games and scored four goals with the Chicago Wolves during the 2011.12 season.

Hunter Shinkaruk may possess the fastest hands out of any prospect at the 2013 Young Stars Classic. A crafty winger that isn’t afraid to battle against much bigger opponents, Shinkaruk was named captain the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers during the 2012.13 season where he amassed 37 goals and 86 points in 64 games. The Canucks fi rst round pick, 24th overall, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft has torn up the WHL circles the last three seasons posting 100 goals and 219 points in 193 games, including a 49-goal, 91-point campaign during the 2011.12 season.Shinkaruk has recorded seven hat-tricks during his WHL career along with 14 two-goal games. The 5-foot-10, 181-pounder has suited up for Canada on three occasions: at the 2011 World Under-17 Challenge where he registered nine points in six games, the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Me-morial Tournament and the 2012 World Under-18 Championships. The 18-year-old was invited to the Canadian National Junior Team Summer Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY this past August.

One of junior hockey’s most clutch goal scorers, Bo Horvat brings a combination of speed, strength and goal-scoring prowess to the Canucks roster at the 2013 Young Stars Classic. After posting 33 goals and 61 points in 67 games for the OHL’s London Knights during the 2012.13 season, Horvat went on a tear during the OHL Playoffs, scoring 16 goals in 21 games en route to earning the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the OHL Playoffs MVP. The 6-foot, 206-pounder scored the game-winning goal with less than a second left for the Knights in Game 7 of the 2013 OHL Final, sending the team to their second straight Memorial Cup appearance. Goal scoring isn’t all that he brings to the table as the Rodney, Ontario native has solidifi ed himself as one of the top two-way players in his age group. Horvat was voted as the best shot blocker and the second best on face-offs in the OHL’s Western Conference by league coaches.Drafted in the fi rst round, ninth overall, at the Canucks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, if Horvat is returned to the OHL for his third season, he will appear in his third straight Memorial Cup tournament as the Knights are the host team for the 2014 event.Horvat has represented Canada twice on the international stage: at the 2012 World Under-17 Challenge where he was the captain of Team Ontario and at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament where he was an alternate captain. The 18-year-old was invited to the Canadian National Junior Team Summer Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY this past August.

Brendan Gaunce

Vancouver Canucks ProspectsYoung Stars 2013

You will be hard-pressed to fi nd a prospect that has climbed the depth chart as fast as Woodbridge, Ontario native Frank Corrado has. It’s becoming harder and harder to believe that Corrado was available in the fi fth-round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft for the Canucks to snag him with the 150th overall pick. Since then, the defenseman has signed an NHL contract, been a fi nalist for the Most Outstanding Defenseman trophy in the OHL, been named Defenseman of the Month in the OHL, played in the OHL all-star game, played in the AHL and has suited up in seven NHL games.Corrado started the 2012.13 season as the captain of the Sudbury Wolves before a mid-season trade sent the 6-foot-2, 191-pounder to the Kitchener Rangers.Upon completion of his OHL season, Corrado joined the Chicago Wolves where he registered two points in three games which earned him a call up to the Canucks. He was named third star in his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks.

A power-forward in the making, Brendan Gaunce has used his size, strength and hockey IQ to become one of the top two-way forwards in all of the OHL. Gaunce was the captain of the Bel-leville Bulls last season where he posted 60 points in 60 games along with 22 points in 17 games during the post-season. The Canucks fi rst round pick, 26th overall, at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has suited up for Team Canada on three occasions: at the 2011 World Under-17 Challenge with Team Ontario, the 2011

Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the 2012 World Under-18 Championships. The 19-year-old invited to the 2013 Canadian National Junior Team Summer Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY this past August. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder

led all Canadian players with four points in two games.

The native of Markham, Ontario was voted as the Best Defen-

sive Forward in the OHL’s Eastern Conference by league coaches.

Mark Scheifele

Josh Morrissey

Winnipeg Jets ProspectsYoung Stars 2013

Jacob Trouba

Josh Morrissey, 18, was selected 13th overall by the Winnipeg Jets at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to being selected sixth in the 2010 WHL bantam draft by the Raiders, Morrissey had 21 goals, 49 points and 108 penalty minutes in 32 games for the Calgary Royals of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. In his desire to constantly push his limits, the physical defenceman has leaned heavily on the tutelage of some elite company at Crash Conditioning in his hometown of Calgary. There, he’s had an opportunity to train with Edmonton Oilers’ Jordan Eberle, Chicago Black-hawks’ Duncan Keith and Washington Capitals’ Mike Green.

Mark Scheifele 20, concluded his junior career with another remarkable season with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. He led the

league in playoff scoring with fi ve goals and 41 points in only 21 games after carrying his team to within one

game of an OHL championship title. The Kitchener, Ontario native fi nished the 2012-13 season with 79 points (39g, 40a) and a plus-minus

of 27 in 45 regular season games. Scheifele joined the Canadian squad at the 2012 World Junior

Championships where he tallied six points in six games.

The 6’2”, 184-pound centre was originally drafted 7th overall by the Winnipeg

Jets at the 2011 NHL Draft. Scheifele has suited up in 11 NHL games with

the Jets including 7 in the 2011-12 season when he recorded his fi rst NHL

goal.

Jacob Trouba, 19, played in 37 games with the University of Michi-gan Wolverines during the 2012-13 season. In that time, the Roch-ester, MI native recorded an impressive 29 points (12G, 17A) along with 88 penalty minutes. Trouba was named to the 2013 CCHA All-Rookie Team determined by a vote of the conference’s head coaches and was also named Best Offensive defenceman for the CCHA. Opting to turn pro after one year of college hockey, Trouba signed an entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets in April and has spent his summer train-ing with fellow Jets prospects Mark Scheifele, Julian Melchiori, and Lukas Sutter at the Gary Roberts High Performance Training Centre. The 6’2” defenceman has won four medals for Team USA so far in his career, most recently a bronze medal at the 2013 IIHF Men’s World Championship. He also won a gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, a gold medal at the 2011 World Junior Ice Hockey U-18 Champion-ship and a silver medal in the 2010 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the fi rst round, ninth overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Laurent Brossoit

Calgary Flames ProspectsYoung Stars 2013

Sean Monahan

When Laurent Brossoit was selected by the Flames in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, he was relatively unknown by fans. He had spent the majority of his career playing behind Jon Groenheyde in Edmonton before he was drafted, failing to catch many people’s attention. That all changed in 2011-12.Brossoit became the Oil Kings starting netminder and led them all the way to the Memorial Cup tournament. He had a 42-13-5 regular season record with three shutouts to his name. In the playoffs, he went 16-4-0 and was named the WHL Championship series MVP for his efforts. He was once again the Oil Kings backbone in the 2012-13 campaign, posting a 33-8-6 record with a 2.25 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Edmonton went all the way to the WHL fi nals once again and

Brossoit displayed his fi rst lengthy postseason run wasn’t a fl uke. He went 18-5-3 in 22 games, notching a 1.82 GAA and a .935 save percentage. He also set a new career-high in playoff

shutouts with 5.At 6-foot-3 and 200 lbs., Brossoit has the size all clubs want in their netminders along with

a strong skill set. He has great refl exes and has been praised for his strong technique. He will likely make the jump to the pro ranks in the 2013-14 season, allowing him to continue to refi ne and develop his skills.Calgary signed the netminder to a three-year entry level contract on Apr. 4, 2013.

If you look up Patrick Sieloff highlights, the fi rst thing you will notice is the defenceman’s open-ice hitting. Sieloff has sent many a player to the ice in heap thanks

to his massive hits and he will never hesitate to throw a check when an opportunity presents itself.

Sieloff has established himself as a shutdown defender with a physical edge, making life very diffi cult for the opposition. In addition to his physical game, he has a high

hockey IQ, a willingness to block shots and solid positioning. His skating is also quite fl uid – an asset that comes in handy when going in for a hit at center ice.

The Michigan native chose to forgo the NCAA route after fi nishing up with the US National Development squad and spent the 2012-13 season in the OHL

with the Windsor Spitfi res. The rearguard was limited to 45 games this past year due to a groin injury that ended his season on Feb. 15, 2013.

The Flames inked Sieloff to a three-year entry level deal on July 19, 2013.

One of Sean Monahan’s greatest strengths is his hockey sense. The 6-foot-2, 195 lbs. pivot reads the game at level rarely seen in an 18 year-old and can adjust his play mid-way through a game, period or even shift, giving him a leg up on his opposition. When things don’t go as planned, he adjusts quickly and effectively. His high hockey IQ makes him quite the threat offensively. He is a creative playmaker with high-end passing skills but also possesses a pro-level shot that can handcuff goalies with its speed and ac-curacy. His strong offensive abilities make it extremely hard to defend against him and he regularly frustrates his opponents as they try to hem him in.Monahan has been lauded for his character and leadership skills. A prime example of his commitment and dedication to his team came in the 2012-13 season, when the Ottawa 67’s were on the cusp of

being eliminated from playoff contention. The Brampton, ON native hurt his back in a game and the team didn’t even bother to bring his equipment to practice the next day, expecting him to be

out of action for awhile. He refused to settle for sitting on the sidelines when his team was in such dire straits and suited up for the next game, scoring twice. The Flames signed the centreman, who was drafted 6th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry level deal on July 22, 2013

Oscar KlefbomKlefbom, 20, was selected by the Oilers in the fi rst round (19th overall) of the 2011 National Hockey League Draft. The 6’3, 204-pound rearguard entered his third season in the Swedish Elite League at the beginning of 2012, posting a career-high in points with three assists and leading the Elitserien in plus/minus with a +7 rating through 10 games. What looked to be a promising season for the young defenceman was over too soon, however, when an ac-cidental collision on October 9 resulted in season-ending shoulder surgery.According to doctors, Klefbom’s recovery has since gone exceptionally well and he was able to participate in a series of workouts and on-ice sessions in Edmonton at the end of the season. On the international stage, Klefbom led team Sweden to a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ed-monton and Calgary and was named to the tournament’s First All-Star Team. In 2011, he captained Team Sweden to a silver medal at the Under-18 World Hockey Championship.

Darnell NurseNurse, 18, was the Oilers seventh overall selection in this year’s National

Hockey League Draft, after recording 41 points (12-29-41) and 116 penalty minutes in 68 games with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie

Greyhounds. In six playoff games with the Greyhounds, he tallied four points (1-3-4) and six penalty minutes as the Greyhounds fell in six games

to the Owen Sound Attack. The 6’5, 192-pound blueliner was named the OHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year for 2012-13, after carrying an 85% average in six Grade 12

University Prep courses.Nurse played for Team Canada at the 2013 Under-18 World Junior Hockey

Championship and participated in the 2013 Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game. Other international experiences include

a bronze medal with Team Ontario at the 2012 Under-17 Hockey Challenge (named to the tournament All-Star

Team) and a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

The Hamilton, Ontario native is the son of former Canadian Football League receiver Richard Nurse

and nephew of former National Football League quarterback Donovan McNabb.14
