Recycling is the name of the game here!!

Dear Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff of Lackland ISD~~

When you recycle your plastic bottles, do you ever wonder what

happens to the caps? If you recycle the caps with the regular recycling program, they are simply cut off and discarded…Most of the time, they

end up in landfills, beaches, rivers, lakes, etc…..

Have you thought of a way you could make a difference? Well now you can! AVEDA has a recycling program that has “the

cure.”

Stacey is a proud part of Lackland’s overall recycling efforts and is sponsoring the AVEDA program for recycling plastic screw-

top lids from such things as soda bottles, shampoo bottles, peanut butter jars, etc... By sending in all of our bottle caps to AVEDA, we can help save the future of our planet. So, take a stand! You can make one change today and see the epic results

tomorrow!!!

The caps we are looking for are hard “rigid” twist off caps. There are collection containers located all around both

campuses, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one!

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Jania Nicholson or D.R. Stiller.

Stacey Profile

1. Where did you grow up?

Grow up? I’m still growing up – hopefully more upwards than downwards. I was born and raised in San Antonio

and unlike military families, never moved until I left for college. I went to the same elementary school, jr. high.,

and high school as my older brother and sister.

2. What do you like about Stacey?

I think that what I like most about Stacey is what it doesn’t have compared to many other schools. Things like

gangs, fights, drugs, crime and large classes where kids get lost in the masses. It’s kinda nice to be somewhere

where you don’t have those needless distractions and everyone knows everyone.

3. What's your favorite food?

That’s a tough one. I lived in New Orleans for almost 15 years so I was exposed to some incredible eats. I really

like to cook and I would have to say one of my favorite dishes is Shrimp Diane which is basically a meal with

shrimp in seafood stock, butter, garlic, lemon juice, green onion, parsley, and spices served over rice – dats good

yeah.

4. If you wanted to meet your favorite celebrity who would it be?

I’m not much into the celebrity thing as I seldom watch T.V. and don’t care or keep up with what’s going on in

Hollywood. Typical celebrities are so out of touch with my world, I have little interest in them. There are so many

admirable people out there who are lot more interesting and noteworthy than celebrities, such as your parents who

leave their families for crazy periods of time and risk their lives to serve in foreign countries to provide for us. But

if you really want an answer on the celebrity thing, I’d say meeting Clint Eastwood would be cool.

5. Where did you go to college?

I went to Tulane University in New Orleans for a bachelors and later went to Our Lady of the Lake here in San

Antonio for a masters degree.

6. What's your favorite color?

I can’t say that I have a favorite color but I’m a nature freak and a birder and the colors on a painted bunting are

pretty remarkable. If you don’t know what it is do a search or you can find them all over Texas in June & July.

7. Why do you like being a coach?

That’s actually a tough question and one I can’t put my finger on. It’s not the 70 plus hours a week or the pay. I

guess it’s the compilation of what results from and the incredible challenge to consistently commit to hard work,

enthusiasm, discipline, determination, dependability, excellence, ownership, passion, integrity, and a bunch of

other qualities when they are applied to reach a goal.

8. What's your favorite track team?

I hate to admit it because they were arch rivals when I was in college, LSU has a pretty incredible program..

9. How do you get students motivated in sports?

Just like fitness, I try to make student/athletes take ownership and realize that in most cases, those that work

harder than their opponents will come out on top.

10. What's your favorite fruit to eat?

Can’t think of a fruit or vegetable that I don’t like – particularly fond of all berries (blackberries, strawberries).

11. Is there anything else you would like to have?

I’m into high-end things and have a hard time separating a need from a want. I get kinda compulsive with

recreational toys like bikes, bows, kayaks, fishing equipment, hiking gear, etc. so, my “like to have” list is endless

but really sic – like do I really need another sixth bike?

Thank you Coach Smith

Thursday, September 28, 2011, Ms. Duran talked to Mrs. Duron’s A1 Child Development Class. During the hour and a half presentation, the students learned about safe sleeping for babies,

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome(SIDS), and shaken baby syndrome.

Two movies were presented where the students were taught the ways to make sure a baby is sleeping safely and the things they should not do when taking care of an infant, as well as a

story of a brave little girl named Kelly, who was shaken as a baby by her babysitter, and survived, with much difficulty up to the age of eleven. At the end of the presentation, Ms.

Duran brought out a RealCare Shaken Baby, which is a real life baby simulator that cries when shaken, and if shaken hard enough LEDs in the transparent head will light up showing the

damage that has been done to the brain.

EVERY DAD CAN BE A HERO Make Father’s Day a day to celebrate — for dad and his kids

© 2002 By Dr. Charles Fay

By using four simple, yet powerful steps from the Love and Logic Institute, parents can give their

children the gifts of responsibility and self-esteem. With these gifts, dads will become heroes in their children’s hearts and Father’s Day will become a true celebration of love and respect. Get started now by using the following steps:

Step 1: Show your kids how to make mistakes and solve them. Great dads (and moms) don’t try to be perfect. Instead, they allow their children to witness some of their small mistakes, show that they are human, and model what it looks like to be a good problem-solver. For example, on a cool evening, a wise dad might purposefully leave his jacket at home and say to his kids, “Oops! I forgot to bring my jacket. I’m chilly. I sure am going to remember it next time!”

Step 2: Give your kids plenty of opportunities to make “affordable” mistakes. Love and Logic parents know that the consequences of mistakes grow more dangerous as their children grow older. Therefore, they hope and pray their youngsters will make plenty of small or “affordable” mistakes when they are young, when the “price tags” of these mistakes are small. For example, on another cool evening during the same week, dad might say to his kids, “We are leaving in 10 minutes. I’m going to treat you like big kids. How fun! You get to be in charge of remembering what you need to bring with you.”

Step 3: If a mistake is made, provide a strong “dose” of empathy and hold your child accountable.

Believe it or not, the parents who are loved and respected by kids provide firm consequences for mistakes or misbehavior. The most loved and respected dads (and moms) provide a strong message of caring or empathy before they deliver consequences. If a child forgets to bring his or her jacket, a Love and Logic parent might say very sincerely, “This is so sad. You forgot your jacket, and now you’re chilly. We can’t drive all the way home to get it. Hang in there. I love you.”

Step 4: Give your children the same task again. The very next day, the same father might say, “We are leaving in 10 minutes. You again get to be in charge of remembering what you need to bring with you.” When parents give their children responsibility for the same task again, without nagging or reminding them of their previous mistakes, they send a very powerful message: “You are smart enough to learn from your mistakes!” It’s never too early or too late to give your children the gifts of Love and Logic. A father I know used these steps with his four-year-old daughter, Amy. He even picked the same decision — remembering one’s jacket. Little Amy forgot her jacket just once! The next evening, as they were preparing to leave for the grocery store, she looked at her father, smiled with pride, and exclaimed, “Daddy! I brought my jacket just in case I’m chilly!”

Give Love and Logic a try and join thousands of parents who have discovered easy and effective ways to increase their children’s responsibility and raise self-esteem.

Dr. Charles Fay is a nationally known speaker, parent, and school psychologist

with the Love and Logic Institute in Golden, Colo. His book, Love and Logic Magic: When Your Kids Leave You Speechless, provides a host of helpful tips for teaching values, as well as handling other perplexing

parenting issues. For more information about Love and Logic parenting and teaching techniques, call 1-800-LUV-LOGIC or visit www.loveandlogic.com.
