RADAR IS AT THE HEART OF AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, HOMELAND DEFENSE, WEATHER PREDICTION AND NATIONAL SECURITY. THERE ARE MORE THAN 600 RADAR SYSTEMS ACROSS THE U.S., INCLUDING ALASKA AND HAWAII, CANADA AND THE CARIBBEAN THAT DETECT VITAL INFORMATION FOR THESE CRITICAL ENTITIES. MANY OF THESE RADAR SYSTEMS ARE AGING, SOME DATE BACK TO THE SEVENTIES, AND ARE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION, NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AND DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY ARE WORKING TO DECREASE THE NUMBER AND TYPES OF RADAR SYSTEMS AND REPLACE THEM WITH ONE ADVANCED, HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED MULTI-PURPOSE RADAR. THIS RADAR PROGRAM IS KNOWN AS SPECTRUM EFFICIENT NATIONAL SURVEILLANCE RADAR AND WILL PROVIDE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, AIR DEFENSE AND AIR SURVEILLANCE, BORDER AND CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION AND WEATHER FORECASTING PREDICTION. WHAT IS SENSR? THE SENSR PROGRAM WILL CONSOLIDATE LEGACY SURVEILLANCE RADARS INTO ONE INTEGRATED SYSTEM.
