********BOO-BOOS THAT CANBURST YOUR CREDITSCORE BUBBLEI recently received a

pleasant email from areader letting me knowthat he bumped up hiscredit score by almost 100points with information Ishared in this column. Inthat spirit, I thought Iwould share some morepractical tips to avoid mis-takes — and maybe boostyour score as well.Trying to determine the

best course of actionwhen it comes to creditscores can be tricky be-cause the rules can beconfusing. One misun-derstanding is the beliefthat we have to carry abalance to build credit. That could be costing youin the form of unneces-sary interest payments.Instead, a better way is

to have a budget that willgo to your credit cardeach month. Another im-portant tip is don’t chargemore than 30 percent ofyour total available credit. If you can keep it below10 percent, this will reallyboost your score quickly. And finally, pay your billsin full every month andalways by the due date.Stick to these tips and

this will help improveyour credit score. And payall your bills on time —not just your credit cards. As a reminder, your pay-ment history makes up 35

********WAR ON ROBOCALLSUPDATE: Here’s an eye-opening

statistic: The state ofIdaho has about 1.7 mil-lion people and our statealone logged about 250million robocalls lastyear. According to themath, that means eachperson received 147 calls.Since not everyone has aphone, it’s no wonderwe’re getting inundatedwith these annoying calls. The internet has made it

incredibly cheap and easyto place thousands of callsin an instant. Many read-ers have complained thatsimply ignoring un-known calls isn’t always agood option since theymay be waiting for ahealthcare provider tocall them and might nothave that number in theircontact list. Missing thesecalls can be frustratingbecause now they have towait for a call back.Unfortunately, waiting

around for big telecomand regulators to solvethe robocall problem isnot a good option. Also, criminals can’t be legis-lated since by definitionthey are law breakers, which means legislatorsare no help when itcomes to combating robo-callers. So what’s the an-swer? A variety of appsand phone services thatcan help you block andfilter these annoyingcalls. Most of the major cell-

phone and landline carri-ers offer some form ofspam-fighting technology,so call them and getsigned up. There aresome Apps available thatoffer robocall relief. A few

examples are Hiya,Nomorobo, RoboKiller,YouMail, TNS and True-caller. While none ofthese solutions is 100 per-cent effective, some stud-ies have reported thatthey can offer up to 66percent relief. Thatmeans if you’re getting 30calls a day, they might fil-ter out 20.Get on or get back on

the Do Not Call List. If ithas been a few years sinceyou signed up, it’s a goodidea to sign up again. Finally, if you aren’t able

to ignore a suspicious calland it turns out to be arobocaller, hang up asquickly as you can with-out pressing any buttons.A cure isn’t possible just

yet. A little relief is thebest we can hope for.

Senator Tom Brewer43rd District7-5-2019

“America was never thatgreat.” Andrew Cuomo,Governor of New York,August 16, 2018Mr. Cuomo isn’t the only

prominent person I’veheard say things like this.I’m deeply troubled by it.I’m also very confident heand the other disgracefulsocialists he representsare the tiny minority ofour population. I neverthought that I would liveto see the day wherebeing anti-American wasin style; where displays ofAmerican patriotismwere criticized. We’re a free country and

people have a constitu-tionally protected right tospew whatever anti-Amer-ican crap they want. But Ithought that having justcelebrated our nation’s243rd birthday, nowwould be a good time torecall just a few reasonswhy the United States ofAmerican is the best

country on Earth. 1. We spent generations

of American blood andtreasure on every cornerof the globe saving count-less millions of peoplefrom tyranny. The USAhas brought about theend of more murderousdictators and oppressiveregimes than every othercountry combined.2. We’re the world’s old-

est continuous republic. No country does a betterjob of spreading freedomand democracy than wedo. America has lifted thecruel yoke of bloodthirstytyrants off the neck ofcountless millions of peo-ple around the world, andthen re-built their coun-tries for them – no charge. 3. There is always some-

thing more that can bedone to continue improv-ing race relations, but letsbe clear on one thing: Weare the least racist coun-try on Earth. We fought awar amongst ourselveswhere over 600,000 peo-ple died to end thescourge of slavery and se-

cure the blessings of lib-erty and the Americandream for ALL Americansregardless of race. Noother country on Earthhas bled more for its ownpeople, or has done morefor basic human rightsthan we have.4. Our constitution is as

close to a perfect form ofgovernment the hand ofman has thus far man-aged to accomplish inrecorded human history.Nothing else on Earth hasguarded the freedom andindividual rights of a peo-ple, or lay the foundationfor such unparalleledhuman prosperity thanour constitution.5. American ingenuity

and productivity leadsthe world. We’re also theworld’s most charitableand generous country. Weinvented the internet, life-saving surgery, the cottongin, the electric light, cures to countless dis-eases. No other countryhas left a flag on themoon. There isn’t roomin this newspaper for the

complete list of wonder-ful things America hasgiven the human raceand it gets longer everyday. Mr. Cuomo, and the oth-

ers who think America isa bad place, need to loveit, or leave it. Please contact my office
