For many years Directorate of Distance Education, University of
Kashmir has served as an
alternative method for delivering academic course work to students
unable to attend traditional campus-
based classes. This directorate always tries to give students
exposure of formal classroom for short span of
time via contact-cum-counselling classes. Different methodologies
are being used to teach and counsel our
learners. Besides lecture method students are being taught through
power point presentations by making use
of multimedia projectors. Brainstorming sessions, Group Discussions
and problem solving activities are
organized within the classroom in order to make the distance
learners expressive to express the flow of ideas
which they keep hidden in their minds. Inquiry based learning
sessions are arranged for learners to foster
intuitive learning among our students. Demonstration
lessons/sessions are conducted for post graduate and
B.Ed students.
Activity Based learning sessions are arranged for B.Ed, DPPTT, Law,
etc. like courses. Case
discussions are organized for courses related to law. Experts from
different fields like academicians,
industrialists, economists and subject experts are invited for
extension lectures for our learners with a
caption for programme as “Meet the Eminent”. Audio-visual sessions
are organized for students in order to
provide them multisensory experiences. Interactive/smart boards are
used by the faculty of directorate for
teaching students in main campus. Documentaries pertaining to
different courses are being shown to the
subject specific students of this directorate. For students of
computer courses like PGDCA Digital Pen
Displays (Wacom Tablets) are used by the teachers in order to
facilitate the computer learning and make
students more exposed to modern software’s and gadgets.
In courses like DPPTT separate course of project work is prescribed
that is mandatory for students in
order to develop wholesome attitude among students for problem.
Students are also being assigned some
assignments to do and presentations by students are being fostered.
For some courses like PGDTM
study/field trips, industrial visits are organized for the learners
to gain on field experience. For internship,
microteaching and other skill oriented training students are sent
to schools, DIET’s and ICD’s centres of
valley for experience through real life situations like practice of
teaching. Besides all these all efforts are
being put in practice to provide students full ICT based learning,
e-tutorials, online study material and
interactive sessions are being organized.
