Delhi Technological University (DTU), has been established by the Government of Delhi through Delhi Act 6 of 2009 by transforming Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), into a Technological University, to excel along the pathways of world quality education, research and innovations and to foster creation of knowledge and research power, so important today in the new knowledge age to empower India with the wings of knowledge and the power of innovations for its rapidly growing knowledge economy. DCE was established by the then Government of India in 1941 as one of the model institutions in engineering and technology in the North India. At that time the Thomson College of Engineering (later became University of Roorkee) was the only other institution offering degree programmes in engineering and technology in this part of the country. DCE true to its vision of the founding fathers has made a profound contribution to the growth of quality technical education in the country. It is a matter of pride that the DCE has an illustrious history of quality education and research and had the privilege of being the mother of the prestigious IIT-Delhi, School of Planning and Architecture, College of Art, College of Pharmacy. Even, the famous Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University was founded by a former professor of Delhi College of Engineering, namely, Prof. A. Das Gupta.
