Executive Summary
Vikramajit Singh Sanantan Dharma College has had a glorious past, a vibrant
present and is heading towards a promising future. In the beginning of the twentieth
century our precious social, cultural, religious, economic and political values were
being influenced by western thoughts. Under the inspiring guidance of Mahamana
Madan Mohan Malviya ji and with blessings of Swami Dayanand ji (a disciple of
Swami Gyananand ji and the founder of Bharat Dharma Mahamandal, Varanasi) Shri
Brahmavart Sanatan Dharma Mahamandal was established in 1916 at Kanpur. The
College management is devoted to the cause of expansion and improvement of quality
education since its inception.
As history is a key to the proper understanding of the culture and ethos of any
community it becomes important to reflect on the past. The visionary founder of the
college, Rai Bahadur Vikramajit Singh along with other eminent citizens envisaged an
institution which could sustain as well as strengthen ‘Sanatan Values’ through
education. It is with this noble mission that they spearheaded their endeavour of
establishing ‘Sanatan Dharma College of Commerce’ in 1921 for awarding
Commercial Diploma. Later on the college was affiliated to Allahabad University,
Allahabad in 1923 for B.Com and B.A. degrees. Subsequently, in 1925 the college
was granted permission to start M.A. in Economics and M.A. in Hindi and Sanskrit
was started in 1927. Thereafter it was affiliated to Agra University in 1928. During
that period it was the only college in northern India imparting education in commerce
at the graduation level. In the year 1942, Shri Narendrajit Singh, Bar- at- Law (Inner
Temple, U.K.) under-took the responsibility of the College as the Secretary, Board of
Management. His 51 year tenure was marked by phenomenal quantitative and
qualitative growth of the College. Several new programmes and courses were
introduced during his tenure. The very promising and dedicated Sri Virendrajit Singh
took over the reins of the college. Under his valuable guidance and patronage the
college reached new heights. In the year 2009 it was accredited ‘A’ by NAAC with a
score of 3.20.

The SWOC analysis is as follows:-
The strength of the institution lies in the unstinted support of the management
and the academically enriched faculty.
The input of students is average as they are from weaker section of the society.

particularly in M.P.Ed course in which there are twelve games as options for
specialization. Feedback system from students and stakeholders is very
systematic which is done periodically. In 2012-13 & 2015-16 the affiliating
CSJM University updated the curriculum for B.P.Ed and in 2015 M.P.Ed

Best Practices
Elaborate on any two best practices in the given format at page no. 98, which
have contributed to the achievement of the Institutional Objectives and/or
contributed to the Quality improvement of the core activities of the college.
The college boasts of following two best practices which influence the overall
development of college students. They are-
Practice No.-1
Title of the Practice:- College Prayer
Goal:- The specified goal is to enhance the personal, moral and spiritual
development of the students.
The Context:- The institution takes pride in owning its prayer song. Our time
table has a stipulated time span of 15 minutes for everyday prayer.
This stretches from 10:30 hrs. to 10:45 hrs.
The Practice:- The teachers, students, office staff and the supporting staff,
all participate in the assembly for reciting the college prayer.
Evidence of Success:- Prayer for students is vitally important in the present
day scenario. Generally the college campuses are full of temptations
and negative influences affecting students. Prayer is a medium to
influence students to make wise choices and excel in studies. The
success of this practice is evident by the calm and disciplined
atmosphere in the campus. This is reflected by the absence of any
untoward incident within the college premises. The academic success
rate of our students is also enhanced.
Problems Encountered and Resource Required:- As recitation of college
prayer is a regular practice so no problem is encountered by the
college administration. The minimal resources are required of this
practice. We have our auditorium where all gather for the purpose.
Notes:- When the students enter the college life, they are also entering a
whole new world full of new freedoms as well as the challenges of
life and here lies the significance of college prayer that makes them
dedicated and disciplined citizens.
Practice No.-2
Title of the Practice:- Tutor –Guardian Scheme
Goal:- Through this scheme the college desires to provide the new students a
comfortable and homely atmosphere. Their comfortable stay and easy
adjustment to the new environment in the college guarantees their
overall development.
The Context:- Over the years the college has evolved a very unique and
strong mechanism for student support and mentoring called the ‘Tutor-
Guardian Scheme’. Each faculty member is assigned a group of
students for the entire academic session. The tutor guardian thus
becomes the mentor/facilitator of his/her group. The scheme is meant
for a closer, more informal interaction between the tutor and his/her
group providing greater opportunities to monitor member’s progress.

The Practice:-
Tutor Guardian Student
Evidence of Success:- We can proclaim the success of this practice by the cordial and
close relationship with tutor-guardian. The practice helps in minimizing the
drop out rate of students. It is almost negligible in our college. All the students
are benefitted by the scheme at academic and ethical level. Their overall
performance go on improving session after session.
Problems Encountered and Resource Required:- The college faces certain
problems in implementation of this practice. Due to large number of students
we are unable to expand this scheme beyond freshers’ level. It is difficult to
detain the students for a specified purpose in the college because of diverse
course programmes. The sufficient resources are available.
Notes:-To organize meeting of students/parents with the assigned faculty member at
regular intervals to facilitate interaction amongst them.
1. To disseminate information regarding college programmes and facilities.
2. To create a comfortable environment for students to enable them to freely
share their problems with the tutor guardian.
3. Many parents turn to attend the meeting. Due to direct dialogue with the
student and parent it becomes easier to resolve the difficulties of the students.
