SCENE 4
A few minutes later Little Red Riding Hood arrived at her grandmother’s house. She knocked at the door.
WOLF : Who’s there?
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Grandmother, it’s me, your granddaughter, Little Red Riding Hood. I bring you
a little basket with some bread and honey.
WOLF : Come in my little girl, push the door.
Little Red Riding Hood entered the little house. She went straight to her grandmother’s room, and in the bed there was the Wolf dressed with her grandmother’s clothes.
WOLF : Come in, my little girl. Rest for a while.
Little Red Riding Hood sat in a chair, and looked at her grandmother. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Oh, grandmother, how large arms you have!
WOLF : They are to hug you better, darling.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Oh grandmother, how big legs you have!
WOLF : They are to run faster, sweety.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Oh, how big ears you have, grandmother!
WOLF : They are to hear you better, honey.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : And how big eyes you have!
WOLF : To see you better, Little Red Riding Hood.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Oh grandmother, and why do you have those big teeth and that big mouth?
WOLF : They are to eat you better! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
And as the Wolf wanted to eat up Little Red Riding Hood, she cried for help. A woodsman who was passing by the little house heard that scream quickly run into the house.
WOODSMAN : What are you trying to do bad wolf???
The woodsman quickly hit the wolf on its head with his axe. The Wolf fainted and fell down. The woodsman helped Red Riding Hood to unlock Grandmother from the closet and untied her.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD : Oh, thank you, good and brave woodsman.
WOODSMAN : You are welcome my little girl.
GRANDMOTHER : This will be a lesson for you, Little Red Riding Hood.
Now, you will never disobey your mother again.

What is Role-Play ???
“An instructional technique involving a spontaneous portrayal (acting out) of a situation, condition, or circumstances by selected members of a learning group."

Why Use Role-Play ???
1. Research has shown that “integrating
experiential learning activities in the classroom
increases interest in the subject mater and
understanding of course content”
(Poorman, 2002, pg. 32)
2. It can increase the involvement on the parts
of students. Research made by Poorman (2002)
proved that “true learning cannot take place
when students are passive observers of the
teaching process” .
3. It teaches empathy and understanding of
different perspectives (Poorman, 2002). He
found that “a significant increase among
students in feeling another’s distress as their
own” when the students are taking on a role of
a character, learning and acting as that
individual would do in typical setting.
4. Role-play is something authentic. It emphasized on personal concern, problems, behaviour and active participation (Silver & Silver, 1989).
5. Role-play can improve interpersonal skills (Taehan, 1975), increase communication skills (Huyack, 1975), and enhance communication (Etkins & Synder, 1972)
