Safety PacksAn unfortunate reality of boating is that safety equipment is all too often stowed out of sight and out of mind. These high visibility packs have all your essential safety equipment together in one ‘quick to grab in an emergency’ pack. The bags are manufactured from waterproof bright orange PVC with sealed seams. Because all your safety gear is in one neat weatherproof pack, it can be kept in view of crew for immediate access if required. An added bonus for trailerable boats stored in the open is that it is quick and easy to remove all your safety gear for storage in the house or garage. The table below details the contents of each pack.

Fireboy is a leading international manufacturer of fire extinguishing systems. Most boat fires start in the engine compartment and unfortunately this is normally a difficult and dangerous place to reach in the event of fire. A method to safely, quickly and efficiently extinguish these fires is essential. The Fireboy system provides near-instantaneous fire-response with maximum fire-quenching capability.

Installed wherever protection is required i.e. engine rooms, electronic compartments, battery compartments and wiring terminal bus bar areas. Fireboy systems act much quicker than any possible human response could, as deployment is automatic once the system detects a heat source of significant magnitude to cause a fire, or be a fire, resulting in faster fire-out time and less damage.

The automatic response is triggered at 79ºC, a heat response level that has been scientifically researched and backed by practical use in testing and in the field. There is no need to open doors or hatches as this only allows fire-building oxygen to do even more damage.

Manual capability:A manual mechanical pull cable is available separately to enable remote manual activation if required.

Total Quality AssuranceEvery Fireboy system is produced to the highest possible standards of reliability, using the finest quality materials:

How the system works using HFC-227eaThe fire suppression agent used in Fireboy systems, HFC-227ea, suppresses fire by discharging as a gas onto the surface of burning material. Large amounts of heat energy are absorbed from the surface of the burning material, lowering its temperature below the ignition point, extinguishing the fire.

Unlike other fire protection alternatives, HFC-227ea does not leave behind any residues, particulates, oily films, water or corrosive materials, so it will not cause collateral damage to your boat or its sensitive electronics. In addition, it is often possible to restart a Fireboy protected engine following a fire.

Advantages of using HFC-227ea (Heptafluoropropane) compressed gas suppressant:• HFC-227ea does not displace ambient oxygen and therefore is

safer for use in occupied spaces.• HFC-227ea is non-conductive.• HFC-227ea has a very high efficiency in terms of speed of

reaction - fast and effective• HFC-227ea is environmentally friendly. It has been designed

to replace the use of ozone depleting fire suppressants which work by striping the fire-inflicted area of oxygen - a dangerous implication for humans.

Fireboy extinguishing systemsFireboy extinguishing systems

• HFC-227ea fire suppression agent, salt-resistant bronze, brass and stainless steel components

• Tough, tempered, corrosion-resistant cylinders coated with epoxy enamel, anaerobic and epoxy sealants

• 'O' ring seals at all critical assembly points • Stainless steel mounting brackets• All systems have a pressure sight gauge on the bottle and

can be recharged by an authorised service agent

Testing

Every Fireboy system is laboratory tested. Leaks as small as 2.8g of agent per year can be detected electronically. With Fireboy’s zero defect quality control program, no system is released that does not pass its tests.

Extinguishant - HFC-227ea Heptafluoropropane

Fireboy uses extinguishant Heptafluoropropane. It is manufactured by two companies: Dupont who brand it FE227TM and Great Lakes Chemical Company who brand it FM200®.

N.B. When fitted to an engine compartment where diesel engines run, it is mandatory to fit the automatic engine shut down option

Selecting Your SystemCompartment size: 1. Determine volume of engine compartment in cubic metres:

L x W x D. e.g., 1.65 x 1.27 x 1.88 = 3.94m3.2. From table below, choose a system that meets or exceeds the measured

volume of engine compartment. When in doubt, always choose larger size for extra protection. e.g. area measuring 3.94m3 would need 227210 (4.3m3). If the measured volume is greater than the volume covered by the systems in the table below, refer to GA systems on next page.

Manual Discharge Cable:

3. If required, select a manual discharge cable, of an appropriate length. Length is measured from handle operation position to extinguisher cylinder. Allow enough length so that the cable does not have any severe bends.

Engine Shutdown System:4. Select the engine shutdown system, if required,

to suit the number of circuits that need to be controlled. i.e. engine shutdown solenoid with two bilge blowers would use the three circuit system.

System Status PanelEach system is supplied with a green warning light status panel, brackets for mounting and provisions for manual discharge control.

Actuator Head GuardAll Fireboys are supplied standard with a wire guard for installation over the actuator to protect against damage to the actuator.

Deluxe Discharge AlarmThe deluxe alarm provides round the clock discharge alert. It features an integrated alarm horn, a test button and visual lamp for simple single instrument installation.

Wire Harness9.1 metre wire harness to suit second station shutdown.

Second Station ControlAdd a second station control and monitor to the engine shutdown system. Offers the same functionality as the primary station control. Install with wire harness 227422.

Engine Shutdown SystemsFire fighting gas suppressants will not stall a diesel engine. If fire breaks out in the engine room of a diesel powered vessel, the engine must be shut down immediately. An eight litre engine running at 2500rpm consumes 166 l/sec of air from the engine room. Continued operation of the engine after the extinguisher has discharged may remove the fire-suppressing agents creating the possibility of re-ignition. Fireboy engine shut down systems respond automatically when a Fireboy system discharges, providing electronic shutdown of up to 5 circuits, such as engines, bilge blowers, fuel pumps etc. All systems are solid state for reliability. The display unit has an integrated alarm horn, charged/discharged lights and an override switch for restart or control of auto shutdown.

N.B. Engine shut down system must be installed on diesel powered vessels

Fireboy GA SeriesPre-engineered total flooding fire extinguishing system for engine rooms from 45 to 85 cubic metres. The system is less expensive and easier to install than an engineered system. When any of the four sensors reach 79ºC, both tanks discharge, totally flooding the enclosed area. When one extinguisher discharges, the second extinguisher discharges within a fraction of a second. HFC-227ea fire suppressant agent, won’t damage engines or equipment. Approved for normally occupied areas, world wide accepted clean agent with zero ozone depleting potential.

The SystemA complete GA series system consists of twin extinguisher tanks, flex braided stainless steel hosing, twin overhead temperature sensors, fire resistant manual release cables, and an engine/equipment shut down.

Components:

• Extinguisher Cylinders: Steel cylinders, Factory Manual approved for the GA Series working pressure and powder coated red for corrosion protection. Stainless steel, extra heavy duty, vibration tested mounting brackets; three per cylinder

• Safety Lock Poppet Valve: Patent pending system that prevents accidental discharge during shipping, warehouse handling, and installation

• GA Link: Flexible braided 316 stainless steel hosing with quick disconnect couplings for easy attachment/re-attachment to the cylinder valve

• Overhead Temperature Sensors: Mounted over the engines to monitor ambient engine room temperature; trigger system discharge upon reaching 79ºC

• Manual Release Cables: High temperature, fire resistant manual release cables for remote manual system discharge; install one at each helm station and one at the engine room exit

• Dual Release Adaptor: High temperature, fire resistant dual release cable kit enables two manual release cables to be connected to the manual system discharge of either cylinder

• Engine Shutdown Controls: Automatically shuts down engines, generators, blowers, etc, upon system discharge; 3 or 5 circuit shutdowns available, 12VDC or 24/32VDC, refer previous page

How to Order1. Calculate the gross engine room volume by

measuring the length, width, and height2. Use the ‘Maximum Volume Protected’ column on

the chart (left) to determine the cylinders required3. Add the 227300 GA link and specify length of

hoses A, B & C4. Select the lengths of high temperature manual

release cables needed by measuring from the control valve on the cylinder to the mounting point of the ‘T’ handle, including the bends, for both helm station and exit door

5. If two manual release cables are required to be connected to one cylinder select the 227359 dual release cable kit

6. Choose an engine shutdown based on the number of circuits that need to be shut down, 12VDC or 24/32VDC. Refer previous page
