IEEE took its roots at FISAT in November 2003. It was initiated by Shri S Gopakumar, the Student's Activities Chairman and IEEE GOLD MEMBER Shri Vargheese Cherian. Various programmes are conducted at the FISAT campus by the IEEE Student Branch, which includes Technical Talks, Management Sessions, Workshops, Seminars. Each year we have more than 100 fresh IEEE student members from our SB. This chapter has been rated among the top 5 active student branches in Kerala section.

The event was aimed at improving the volunteering and managerial skills
of the IEEE student members. Also, To select a documentation team for the SB. The day kicked off with the Ice Breaking session headed by Emil Jose. This was followed by the Entrepreneurship workshop by Meera Radhakrishnan (Curator Startup Village), Nithin George Charuvila (CEO Q play Technologies) and Akash Mathew (CEO and Founder of CIED Technologies.) They shared their experience at startup village and also discussed the challenges they had to face being into the world of Entrepreneurship. A Guidance session was given to the first year IEEE members by Emil Jose and Deepak Mohan on how to conduct Cognizance. The documentation session, which brought the day to an end helped to find the eminent documentation team for the SB.
Impulse 2014
Date: 18nd January

An intra-college competition was conducted by IEEE Student Branch that included both technical and managerial activities. A total of 14 student students grouped into 3 teams were present for the competition. The tasks included a treasure hunt where the participants were asked to answer both technical as well as logic related questions to solve each clue using the map given to them. As the second task, the participants were asked to design a circuit such as a liquid detector or light sensitive
circuit using hobby circuits and soldering iron that were provided to them. In the third task, the participants were asked to prepare a bio data and sit for a stress interview Ronnie Sunny, Emil Jose and Deepak Bhasi that tested the participant’s managerial and social skills. The participants were finally asked to make a still model. There was also a feedback session at the end of the competition and all the participants found the competition to be interesting and entertaining.

The saga of Cognizance reached its fourth year on 22nd February 2014.The event was a huge success with the entire technical environment created by the fresher’s of IEEE in our SB. The program with the aim of providing high quality technical workshops and talks by the 1st year IEEE student members to its batch mate served its purpose very well. The event kicked off with an inauguration ceremony. Dr.KSM Panicker (Principal |FISAT) inaugurated the function with a wonderful inaugural address. Mr Praveen V (Branch Counsellor |IEEE FISAT SB) delivered the keynote address.

The Annual General Body meeting of the year 2014 was held on 13-03-2014,
Tuesday, from 4:30 PM in the Main Seminar Hall of FISAT. The chief guest of the event was the College Principal Dr.KSM Panicker. Mr. Deepak Mohan delivered the Welcome Speech, which was followed by the Code of Ethics by Ms. Jeenia.T. In his speech, Dr. Panicker emphasized on the glorious functioning of the FISAT IEEE SB. Ms. Vishakha Khona A, the outgoing Secretary of the SB, presented the Annual Report emphasizing the achievements of the SB in the academic year 2013. In the EXECOM TRANSFER, the outgoing committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Emil Jose handed over the charge to the new committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Roshan Cyriac Mathew, and Mr. Raghav Swaminathan as the new Secretary. Also, the Best Guild Award was presented to the head of the best guild. Report of the Techfest – Nautilus 2K13 – was presented by Mr. Deen Dayal. The Annual Plan of the SB for the year 2014 was briefed by the new Chairman and the Secretary. Mr. Jithin Lal delivered the Vote of Thanks.

Visited: Startup Village Kalamassery

An industrial visit was organized by IEEE FISAT SB to Startup Village ,
kalamassery on 16th march 2014.IEEE FISAT SB Branch counselor Mr. Praveen V accompanied us. We reached Startup Village by 9:30 am. The participant lot was 53. There was an introductory talk about Startup Village given by Mr.Gokul Kavanalayam ( Director , Technical Incubator , Startup Village ).Which was followed by two more talks by Mr.Midhun (CEO , Exam voice ) and Mr.Akash Mathew ( CEO and co-founder , CIED technologies ). The talks were followed up by 2 group activities. The whole lot was divided into 5 groups. The first activity was to find out implementable ideas from the first page of a given newspaper. All the groups came out with variety of ideas at a rate of about twenty ideas in just five minutes. The second activity was all about making a hammock of any variant using a newspaper within a time limit of fifteen minutes. The five groups came up with five marvelous variants of hammocks. After the group activities fun sessions were conducted. We left Startup Village by 3:00 pm.

Online Webinar

IEEE FISAT Student Branch conducted a gaming Webinar .The Webinar was led by Mr.Sunil Thankamusy (CEO, Deep Blue Worlds).The Webinar was of one hour duration and the participants were keenly interested to get introduced to the world of game development. . He introduced the basic tools used in game development and the common platforms he work upon.A number of doubts were also raised, to which they were well responded by the speaker. Mr Jibin Sabu,was the coordinator of this workshop. The workshop began at 8:30 pm and was concluded at 9.30pm. This webinar was of great help for the students who attended it.

Women In Engineering wing of IEEE FISAT SB organized a National WIE
event that saw 2and the guest of honour was Mrs.Parveen Hafeez, the MD of
Sunrise Hospitals. The event started with an ice breaking session by
Vishakha Khona, previous HSR of Kochi hub, which made the participants in
the ease of their mood. The inauguration of Impulse 2k14 was officialy done
by Mrs.Parveen Hafeez. Principal Dr.K.S.M.Paniker, Chairman Mr.Paul
Mundadan, IEEE Student branch counsellor Mr.Praveen.V and WIE
chairperson Ms.Jiya Jose lighted the lamp. Mrs.Parveen Hafeez switched on
the illumination of impulse created by the members of IEEE student branch
FISAT.
The main attraction of Impulse was the competition LAINDUSTRA. A
project development workshop was held at the hardware lab. It was taken by
Mr.Pankaj Kumar, staff of computer science department, F1SAT.Arjun R
Pillai,IEEE awards committee chair, handled the second workshop which was
on the managerial skills. Parallel to the workshops the competition
LAINDUSTRA was also being conducted. Vishakha Khona previous HSR
Kochi hub, Vishnu Shankar link tech coordinator, computer society India
council SAC Vice chair, Dinu Sam Babu link vice president and Mahith
Menon. Mr.Praveen, the student branch counsellor presented the certificates
for the winners of the competition LA INDUSTRA.
Placement Training Initiative

The IEEE student branch of FISAT had organized a placement training program. The
event commenced at 10 am, with the extolling speech by Mr.Praveen for the
commendable success of the previous event, 'Impulse 2014' followed by an
introduction talk by Raghav Swaminathan and Jibin Sabu. Later on, we had another
talk by Deepak Mohan, wherein he shared his experiences on the All Kerala SIGHT
Camp at Kunjipaara. Followed by the highlight of the day, session by Mr.Dinu Sam
Babu, a very active member of IEEE,who had served as vice-president, LINK and
chairman of GOLD. He held the placement training session for the day.
Volunteer Training – VOLT

The IEEE Student Branch of FISAT had organized a volunteer training session from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm at FISAT Campus. All the Execom members of IEEE FISAT SB had taken sessions on various aspects of volunteering. A special session on documentation was also organized as a part of VOLT. The audience comprised of second year and third year B.Tech students of FISAT who were keen on volunteering for the International IEEE event Tesla2k14.
Micro Workshops Date: 10 August, 2014

The IEEE Student branch of FISAT had organized a Micro workshop on “Digital Cinema” taken by Mr. Anoop K Anand of IEEE FISAT SB. In the afternoon, a Micro Workshop on “GIMP” was taken by Siddarth S. The audience comprised of second year B.Tech IEEE members.
IEEE SIGHT Inauguration

Following the motto of FISAT i.e Technology for humanity, the IEEE members had decided to bring a society that focused on humanitarian technology and hence, IEEE SIGHT took its roots at FISAT under Mr. Praveen V. The IEEE SIGHT Secretary Gladson Sunny delivered the welcome address and Dr. K.S.M Panicker Principal was the chief guest of the event.
Workshop on Documentation Date: 20th August, 2014

Citing the dates of the International event Tesla2k14 coming closer, the IEEE Student branch had organized a documentation workshop taken by Mr. Raghav, Mr. Roshan and Ms. Jiya Jose. The workshop included the key aspects of documentation such as Web design, letter writing, IEEE paper writing and many more.
Special Session on skill development

For the first time in the history of IEEE FISAT SB, a three day International IEEE event was organized that saw a large participation of student members from India and abroad. On the first day, a special session by Prof. Thomas, Chairman of Lead Engineering College, Palakkad was organized from 9. 00 pm to 12.00 am (mid night). Major stunts that motivated the participants and improved their self confidence were conducted during the session.

On the second day of Tesla 2k14, 15 Technical workshops from
Hovercraft, Ruby, Lab View, CAD/AUTO DESK, 3D Printing, Robotics
& Basic with Arduino, Circuits design , Imagine Talks, Imagine Talks, Raspberry Pi , Android App Development , Verilog, Keil, PCB Design Systems, session on start up Village and many more.

As part of Tesla 2K14, a series of invited talks were being organized. Ms. Daria from Russia had taken a special session on “Waste Management”. Ms. Shalini Prakash had taken a session on “Effective Management” to all the participants of Tesla2k14.

Python Workshop Date: 21st September, 2014

A workshop on Python, organized by of IEEE Student Branch-FISAT. An
interactive session on Python headed by Mr. Mahesh C. and Miss Meera C.
got off the ground. The session was an eye-opener on the development,
implementation and the employment of Python in web development,
software development and development of artificial intelligence. The lab
session that commenced at 2.30 p.m. The events of the day ended with
presenting memento to Mr. Mahesh C. Application of innovative ideas in
real world being one of the major aims of IEEE, the workshop on Python
provided a perfect platform for implementation of out of the box ideas of the
participants.
Social Service Initiative Date: 2nd October, 2014

As a part of Gandhi Jayanti, IEEE FISAT SB organized a one day social
service activity. FISAT IEEE SIGHT Secretary Mr. Gladson Sunny led the
social service program. The program was held in Emmanuel Orphanage,
Mookanoor. Sweets were distributed to the children in the orphanage and
had an interactive session with them.

To increase the technical knowledge and interest among students, a class on
importance of technical knowledge and skills was organized by Mr. Roshan
Cyriac Mathew. This helped in enhancing the technical acumen of the budding
technical engineers to be at par with the modern world.

Citing the importance and interest taken internationally by the different
countries across, a talk was handled by Mr. Arun R Nair, to enlighten the
importance in improving sustainable development. This was conducted to
increase the eco friendly mentality of students.

specifying on the different industries to be visited by the engineering
students of different branches. This was aimed to help students to choose the

Taking into consideration the different opportunities awaiting the first years,
a class on volunteering was taken by Mr. Raghav Swaminathan, emphasisng
the importance of grabbing the opportunity. This was oriented for the overall

the same was handled by Mr. Raghav Swaminathan. This was fully aimed at

the second years were guided by the execom members with a session

A class on green manufacturing, an increasing trend adopted by the
industries across the world was handled be Ms. Jeenia T, which was oriented
in giving the students an idea of how the same is done, benefits, methods of

A session on women empowerment was handled by Ms. Jiya Jose, which
was aimed at helping the students understand the role of women in the

Entropy 2k14

Entropy 2k14 was the event which was organized so as to make the new
junior IEEE members aware of the SB and its functions. The event
mostly focused on to make the new IEEE members aware about the
hierarchy of EXECOM and the duties of each EXECOM members. And
also they were made aware how to organize an IEEE event in SB. The
event was also filled with management and fun sessions.

An expert talk on documentation was organized by the SB where,Dr. Molly
Joseph, professor of Department of English, spoke of how the process of
documentation is to be carried out and the various important formats of the
same which was really impressing.
TALK -Impact of IEEE in placement

Dr. Unni Kartha ,HOD of Civil Department,FISAT ; gave an inspiring ralk
on the impact of IEEE has on the placement of engineering students. Since
the era promotes unemployment, this talk was surely providing a positive
spirit and solution to the students.
Vishakha Khona A won the Richard E Merwin scholarship and a cash award of 1000$.
IEEE FISAT SB organized three day International event Tesla2K14 that saw a large participation of student members from India and abroad.
IEEE WIE of FISAT SB organized National level event Impulse2K14 that saw a participation of 260 student members from major states of India.
Reaching the Quarter year, The statistics shows that the SB has been 100% technical throughout as a result serving the prime aim of IEEE to Advance Technology for Humanity.
