Secret EgyptUnravelling truth from myth11 February – 5 June 2011

This brand new blockbusterexhibition will allow visitors toinvestigate the truth behindsome of the popular myths about ancient Egypt.

Did aliens build the pyramids?What was the mummy's curse? Were the Egyptians obsessedwith death?

The displays bring together over 200 objectsfrom some of the most important Egyptiancollections in the country. Highlights include agiant granite statue of Ramesses II from theBritish Museum, a rare sculpture of QueenNefertiti from the Ashmolean, a gold pendantdiscovered in the hands of a robber trapped ina collapsed tomb and a well preservedmummy of a woman called Perenbast.

The exhibition will display many treasurespreviously unseen by the public includingobjects from Manchester University Museum,the Birmingham Museum collections andBolton Museum.

Welcome to our Secret Egyptfamily events guide.

We have loads of FREE fun and creativeactivities to accompany the Secret Egyptexhibition. From messy, hands on explorationsfor 1-3 year olds to a special event for childrenand their dads and male carers, there'ssomething for all the family! We also have arange of exciting holiday workshops where youcan explore the mysteries of ancient Egypt.

There is always lots to see and do at theHerbert. Our family friendly robot Herbot willshow you the way so pick up a guide duringyour visit to find out about all the things yourlittle Herberts will love to get up to…
