Join Us on Divine Mercy Sunday

From the diary of a young Polish nun, a special devotion began spreading throughout the world in the 1930s. The message is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving. In the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s merciful love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners. St. John Paul II was drawn particularly

to the divine mercy message, and in the year 2000 added the Divine Mercy as a feast day for the world-wide Church on the Sunday after Easter. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy may be said at anytime during the year. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy as a Novena (saying a chaplet each day for nine days) is suggested to be prayed especially from Good Friday until Divine Mercy Sunday. Our Lord gave St. Faustina a different intention for each day that He wished to be prayed. “By this Novena [of chaplets, before the Feast of Mercy], I will grant every possible grace to souls” (Diary, 796). Join the Choir on April 28th at 3:00 pm for the singing of the Chaplet.

NO MORNING MASSES: Tues. April 30 through Thurs. May 2. Communion Services this week TBD. Morning Mass will resume on Friday May 3rd.

The Octave of Easter, during which each day is celebrated as Easter Sunday, concludes with the Second Sunday of Easter, called Divine Mercy Sunday. Divine Mercy Sunday recalls the infinite mercy of Jesus, earned through His passion, death and resurrection, ready to be poured out for the forgiveness of our sins. All it takes is the asking, or more accurately, the proper asking. Jesus’ infinite mercy is available for anyone who asks with even the smallest intention of repenting for their sins and changing their life to try to avoid sin. All we have to do is crack our hard hearts just a little bit and Jesus is waiting to jump in. The mistake some people can make is to ask for forgiveness because they are sorry, in a general way, for the harm their sins may have caused, but they have no real intention of changing their lives. This is dangerous because one of the conditions of repentance and forgiveness is a firm intention to “amend our lives.” A firm intention comes from analyzing the patterns of why and how we sin and then taking active steps to try to change those patterns with God’s grace. Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated by praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on our Rosary beads. In the Chaplet we pray for God’s mercy “on us and on the whole world.” This is a very powerful prayer. Pamphlets are available in the back of church to help you pray this, preferably with your family. Can you imagine how pleased our Lord is with this act of charity on our part? May God bless us in our ministry of praying for each other and the whole world, and may we experience the depth of Jesus’ mercy and love in our own hearts. Happy Easter!

7th Grade Information Night: We would like to invite your family and your 7th grade student to our 7th grade information night to be held on Tuesday, April 30th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the school theater. You will hear a presentation by our Admissions Team about all of the school’s wonderful offerings, and get to meet and ask questions of some of our current Holy Family talented tigers! The Admissions

team as well as members of the school Administrative team will be available for questions as well. You may register for this event at www.holyfamilyhs.com

HELP NEEDED: An individual called the office who needs help with mowing their lawn. They have a lawn mower and gas, but need help with the mowing. If you could help, please call the office.

Spring Food Drive: The Knights of Columbus, Council #1313, will be coordinating the parish's Spring Food Drive benefiting St. John's Food Bank at all Masses on the weekend of May 4/5. Grocery

bags will be disseminated by the Knights after the weekend Masses on April 27/28. Each bag will have a list of needed foodstuffs; you may return the bag with your donation to the Knights before the

Masses on May 4/5th and we'll deliver them to the Food Bank.

St. John's Food Bank assists over 250 needy individuals and families each week with meeting basic nutritional needs. In the Spring, the inventory at the Food Bank traditionally runs low; your generosity WILL make a difference for some needy family. Last fall, the parish contributed over 2,100 pounds of food and nearly 300 pounds of disposable diapers. Can we beat that total this Spring?

Thanks you for your on-going support.

THANK YOU AWESOME RE VOLUNTEERS!! We had 33 weekly Volunteers in the RE Program. Two of them volunteered at the early and the later Tuesday session. My heartfelt thank you to each one of our regular Volunteers, and to our Substitutes, who helped things go smoothly. We are blessed by your ministry!

When God is calling you to serve your church, with your gifts of Time & Talent – do you think it’s a prank call and just hang up? Instead, say “Hello God, your servant is listen-ing.” Pray about it, and come and be a part of this awesome ministry! These precious children will renew your faith!!

KIDS in Grades 1-6 – Come and meet Jesus at Totus Tuus Summer Camp – don’t be shy, you’ll learn about your faith, and make good friends. You may bring a buddy along too!

PRAYER REQUEST - To the person who left a message on some bunny note paper in the Children’s Offertory Envelope, I got your note, along with the children’s drawings. 😊 I will keep you in prayer.

CONFIRMATION & FIRST COMMUNION for 3RD Grade: Archbishop Aquila has instituted “Restored Order for Sacraments” – that is, Confirmation at an earlier age, to complete the Sacraments of Initiation. Our 3rd graders will now receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion this year if they have completed 1 year of Basics RE. Registration for fall classes begins soon. It is very important to begin learning about your faith before their Sacramental year; and to continue their formation well beyond Eucharist or Confirmation!! Continued on p. 6.

BILL’S ADVENTURES – Bill tried to listen as Dad read the gospel for Sunday to the family, that is, up until the part where Jesus walked through the locked doors. He wondered how He could do that. Ghosts can do that, but Jesus wasn’t a ghost if you could see His hands and side. You can’t see ghosts. His mind wondered off thinking about how this could be.
