Reflection The Isaiah reading not only forms the background to the ministry of John, the Baptizer, but also fills out his cryptic message in the Gospel reading. It is a message of forgiveness, comfort and liberation breaking forth with the coming of the Lord to the people of the Covenant. John, indeed prepared the way for the coming of the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. • Pray for those who cry out in the wilderness in our generation; for those with a
deliberate lifestyle that reflect the message they bear from God. • Give thanks for the work and witness of the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa.
We at St Mark's aim to grow in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and to welcome others into an open Christian community where we can experience and explore
the reality of God in an atmosphere of acceptance and trust.
A warm welcome to all
All invited to morning tea in the adjacent St Mark's Hall after each service.

Monks, Museums & Monasteries Revd Dr Max Wood hosts a tour in Italy in June 2018. See flyer in foyer.
2018 Floral Memorials It is our practice to remember past members and loved ones through a floral memorial. It is an opportunity to give thanks to God for the life of those loved and lost, and to recall shared relationships. The memorial gift is in the form of an annual donation to cover the cost of flowers that adorn the sanctuary for Sunday worship. It is normally recognised in the weekly newsletter Connections, during the Intercessions and in the Notices. If you would like to enquire about a memorial in 2018, please speak to Barbara Falloon or Jill Brown.
Christmas cheer in nursing homes The three nursing homes we visit each month have all moved the scheduled times of their December services closer to Christmas, in the hope that more residents than usual will come, especially if we are able to sing carols. For this to happen, we will need your help. There is a list in the foyer of the dates and times, and we ask that you come and help lead the singing of a few carols. You will also be able to help hand out the Christmas cards which Fay Sprague has donated and personalised, and chat to the residents, many of whom have few visitors. We will have carols at any of the services for which three or four people volunteer to come. Alison Clark will accompany us on her guitar at one or two of the services, and Lois and Robert have recorded the music on the church organ. The dates and times are: • The Bay Nursing Home, Princes Highway, Blakehurst Tuesday 19 December, 11.00am • Blakehurst Nursing Home, Cheddar St, Blakehurst Wednesday 20 December, 2.30pm • St Bede’s Hostel, Russell Lane, South Hurstville Thursday 21 December, 11.00am.
