Georgia posted the league’s best mark at 13-1, followed by Alabama (10-3), Auburn (9-4), Arkansas (9-5), Florida, LSU and Tennessee, each at 8-5, Kentucky at 7- 5, and Ole Miss with a 7-6 record. • Florida posted its 15th straight season with a winning record in 2002, the longest such streak in the SEC. TWO NEW COACHES IN THE SEC FOR 2003
The SEC will have two new coaches on thesidelines for the 2003 football season. On Dec.18, Alabama announced the hiring of Mike Price,who led Washington State to a 10-3 record andthe Pac-10 championship in 2002. On Dec. 30,Rich Brooks was named the head coach atKentucky. Brooks was the 1994 National Coachof the Year at the University of Oregon and a for-mer head coach in the NFL with the St. LouisRams (1995-96).
Mike PricePrice comes to Alabama after serving the pre-
vious 14 seasons as head coach at WashingtonState. During his tenure with the Cougars, Pricecompiled an 83-78 record, including back-to-back 10-win seasons in Pullman. The Cougarsplayed in two Rose Bowls and five bowls overallwith Price at the helm.
Prior to his tenure at WSU, Price served ashead coach at Weber State University from 1981-88, where he compiled a 46-44 record in eightyears. His 22-year head coaching record standsat 129-122 with three conference championships.
Price also served as an assistant coach atMissouri (1978-80), Washington State (1969-70,1974-77) and the University of Puget Sound(1971-73).
Rich BrooksBrooks has 27 years of coaching experience
on the collegiate level, including a groundbreak-ing 18-year term as head coach at Oregon, and isa 10-year NFL coaching veteran.
His most recent coaching assignment was theassistant head coach and defensive coordinatorposition for the Atlanta Falcons from 1997-2000.
Brooks was head coach of the St. Louis Ramsin 1995-96. The Rams had a 13-19 record inthose two seasons, the team's best two-yearstretch since 1989-90. The Rams won only ninegames in the two years prior to his arrival andwon just nine games in the two years followinghis departure.
As head coach at the University of Oregonfrom 1977-94, Brooks won more games than anycoach in school history. His final 18-year recordwas 91-109-4, including 39-32 and four bowls inthe last six seasons.
