    Typical example

    Mount the machine and dismount the machine onlyat locations that have steps and/or handholds. Beforeyou mount the machine, clean the steps and thehandholds. Inspect the steps and handholds. Makeall necessary repairs.

    Face the machine whenever you get on the machineand whenever you get off the machine.

    Maintain a three-point contact with the steps and withthe handholds.

    Note: Three-point contact can be two feet and onehand. Three-point contact can also be one foot andtwo hands.

    Do not mount a moving machine. Do not dismount amoving machine. Never jump off the machine. Donot carry tools or supplies when you try to mount themachine or when you try to dismount the machine.Use a hand line to pull equipment onto the platform.Do not use any controls as handholds when youenter the operator compartment or when you exit theoperator compartment.

    Alternate ExitMachines that are equipped with cabs have alternateexits. For additional information, see Operation andMaintenance Manual, Alternate Exit.

    Daily InspectionSMCS Code: 1000; 7000

    For a maximum service life of the machine, completea thorough walk-around inspection before you mountthe machine and before you start the engine.

    Inspect the area around the machine and under themachine. Look for loose bolts, trash buildup, oil,coolant leakage, broken parts, or worn parts.

    Note: Watch closely for leaks. If you observe a leak,find the source of the leak and correct the leak. If yoususpect a leak or you observe a leak, check the fluidlevels more frequently.

    Inspect the condition of the equipment and of thehydraulic components.

    Check the condition of the tires. Adjust the inflationpressure, if necessary.

    Check all of the oil levels, all of the coolant levels,and all of the fuel levels.

    Remove any trash buildup and debris. Make allnecessary repairs before you operate the machine.

    Make sure that all covers and guards are securelyattached.

    Adjust the mirrors for the correct rear view of themachine.

    Make sure that the engine air filter service indicator isnot in the red zone.

    Grease all of the fittings that need to be serviced ona daily basis.

    Remove steering frame lock (1) and store lock (1)in the unlocked position. Lock (1) must be in theunlocked position in order to articulate the machine.

    Remove wheel lean locking bolt (2) from the lockedposition.

    NOTICEDo not operate the machine with the wheel lean boltin the locked position. Machine damage may occur.

    The steering frame lock link prevents the machinefrom articulating.

    Before you perform any of the following operations,insert steering frame lock link(1) into the LOCKEDposition:

    Lift the machine.

    Transport the machine.

    Perform any work near the center of the machine.

    Secure the steering frame lock link in the LOCKEDposition with the locking pin.

    Remove steering frame lock link (1) before themachine is operated. Secure the steering frame locklink in the STORED position with the locking pin.
