Opening Prayer

Holy God, you have shaped us in your likeness. You have formed us as part of creation. Your

love is our ongoing inheritance. May our living reflect these holy gifts. Amen.

Collect

Creator God, you call us to remember our humanity, because in knowing ourselves we know you

more fully. May we be reminded that we are your creation and that you call us to responsibility.

In the beauty around and within us, may we embrace your ways and remember our kinship with

all creation. Amen.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED

God, open us to the power of your Holy Spirit, as the scriptures are read and you Word is

proclaimed, may we hear what you are saying. Hutłilala's. Amen.

your praises reach up to the heavens.

You have set up a stronghold against your foes, to quell the enemy and the avengers.


When I look to the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in

their places,

what are we mortals that you should be mindful of us, mere human beings that you should

care for us?


You have made us little less than divine, and crowned us with glory and honour.

You have made us rulers over all your creation, and put all things under our feet,

Sermon Reflection

Prayer of confession

We are joined to every grain of sand:

Earth does not belong to us – we belong to Earth.

We are joined to every shining leaf:

Earth does not belong to us– we belong to Earth.

We are joined to every drop of rain:


We are joined to every creature’s breath:


We are joined to every beam of light:


We are joined to every particle of creation.


We may know this, and yet –

we confess our arrogance, ignorance,

and greed in how we treat Creation.

Words of affirmation

We are joined forever to God’s remarkable love which brings us to a place of healing and action.

Through this love, we can live out these words: Earth does not belong to us – we belong to

Earth. Amen.

Prayers of the People

In our Shared Ministry Church Cycles of Prayer We pray for Anna, our bishop, the congregation

of St. Philip, Oak Bay and the Rev. Christopher Page. We also pray for the Pacific Mountain

Regional Council, the President, Executive Minister, Executive and staff.

Wow! The music of the spheres, without words, sings to our hearts of God’s glory.

Look!*

Incredible! The myriad mysteries of deep space, light years of complexity, blaze with God’s

majesty.

Leap!*

Amazing! The intricate weaving of life’s rhythms, the pulse of creation, dances with joy in

God’s love.

Come!

We come to celebrate God’s goodness in our lives.

Share!

We share community with all of God’s creation.

Proclaim!

We proclaim the light of Christ as joyful re-creation for all.

Let us pray together:

Our hearts fill with awe, O God, for your Spirit works within us all.

You gift us as Christ’s body to become one, in wholeness, one with all of creation.

Empower us for that purpose this morning, we pray, that we may heed, hope, and heal in

Jesus’ name. Amen.

The peace of Christ be always with you.

Prayer over the Gifts

Merciful God, your love and grace sustain us day by day. May we offer these gifts with gratitude

and offer our own gifts with the generosity you have shown to us. Amen

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED

Invitation Come to the table of One whose footprints are on the tundra, desert, delta, Sea of

Galilee, bush and forest, and whose Good News speaks in Swahili, Spanish and Sign, Bahasa,

Basque and Braille, Urdu, HTML and Te Reo Maori. Come to the breaking of rice cake, puto

and corn tortilla, the laying down of seema and wafer, the passing of unleavened Passover bread

and naan, and the pouring of a cup of merlot or concord grape, salabat juice, atole, or coconut

milk. Come to a meal with a global guest list.

Words of remembering We remember the Creator fed the aurora borealis and ocean depths,

pterodactyls and diatoms, all we see now that grows and breathes, all that swims, swarms,

slithers, all that runs, flies, leaps, and loves.

We remember Jesus Christ played vintner at a wedding feast, rubbed elbows with Zacchaeus’

friends, taught the disciples to never substitute anything like stone or snake when they feed the

unhoused or hungry, and, in the midst of profound grief for John’s death, expanded the disciples’

understanding of the world-wide recipe that turns bread crust and fish scraps, into a meal of love

and leftovers of mission.

We always remember a Passover in Jerusalem when Jesus borrowed an upper room, soaked and

scrubbed the tired feet of others, and explained that there is a God-shaped hole in everyone’s

belly to be filled with love. Remembering is beautiful, but there is not much taste in it. Let us fill

our hunger and thirst, by sitting down here and now, as people are doing in so many places, to

eat and drink, be blessed and whole.

Prayer of consecration

In the name of the Party-Maker, soup-kitchen with five loaves and two fish, and Daily Bread,

Amen.

God, bless the spoons, chopsticks, flatbread, and fingers of all your children. Bless every

meeting of hunger and generosity. Bless our memories of food shared and our hopes for

food justice. Bless with your Holy Spirit the peace of our common cup, the pieces of our broken bread and the

global holy chaos of Communion in all the world’s time zones, that, everywhere, and in this

place sacred to us today, it may become a sacred meal and our pledge of an open table, in

Christ’s name now, and praying the prayer that binds us together...(the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be

done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our

trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the

glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sharing of the elements

The bread is blessed and broken like the banquet of grace. Let us eat the bread. The cup is

blessed and poured like overflowing tears and joy. Sharing love, we will never be hungry.

Drinking deeply, we will never thirst.

(Please remain in at your seat, communion will be brought to you.)

Eat this bread and remember: God will always love you and God will never leave you! Amen.

Prayer After Communion

One: When every prayer is spoken throughout the world...

The real work of Communion begins:

To find those lost and broken by the pandemic, to feed all the hungry in body and spirit, to

reunite children with parents, to rebuild places where fire has burned, storms have devastated,

and war has been waged, to ask forgiveness of the world’s indigenous peoples...

And, in every season, to make music in our hearts. Amen.

For the healing of the nations, God we pray with one accord; For a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love in action, help us rise and pledge our word. Lead us forward into freedom, from despair your world release; That, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace. Show us how through care and goodness, fear will die and hope increase. All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned: Pride of status, race or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan. In our common quest for justice, may we hallow life`s brief span. You, Creator God, have written your great name on humankind; for our growing in your likeness bring the life of Christ to mind; that, by our response and service, earth its destiny may find.

Bible Study begins in hybrid form on Tuesday September 7th at 5 PM.

For those who wish to zoom in, please email us for the link.

Celtic (Iona) Prayer begins on Thursday September 16th at 4 PM.

Please remember to bring in canned or dry goods for our community cupboard and blessing box.

Especially useful are ramen noodles, Kraft dinner, and canned vegetable or mushroom soups and

canned fish. Fresh items are also suitable for the blessing box.
