Dear Friends,
Let me begin by saying Thank You!
Our record-breaking first season together included numerous sold-out performances and I personally wish to thank the York community for a genuine and kind-hearted welcome that made my family and me feel very much at home. You will never know how much I truly appreciated everyone who joined us on this adventure.
Last year we explored the idea of "New Beginnings," taking new paths with themes and music selections, including a journey through the cosmos. For our second season together, I invite you to join us for the Classical Series “In Nature’s Realm” where we’ll travel into the eye of the storm, through the sounds of Birdland and beyond the water’s edge.
Plus, we’ll carry forward our new York tradition of a Holiday Pops Spectacular featuring the best songs of the season and take a trip down memory lane with legendary 70s classics from iconic piano men Billy Joel and Elton John, performed by Jim Witter. We’ll also make history together with the first fully-staged opera production ever to be presented in York.
On behalf of the entire organization, I’d like to welcome you to the 2015-2016 season, "In Nature's Realm." We look forward to seeing you soon!

Beethoven’s heartfelt ode to a day in the country collides with the passionate sounds of the Tango in this special performance. Two modern works by Piazzolla and Golijov present the sounds of the Argentine Tango. The musical representation of the seasons of Buenos Aires, both natural and cultural, will include a special appearance by David Kim, the Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, on violin. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s "Pastorale" that will take the audience on a wistful journey through the European countryside. Real-time visual program notes will offer a guide through the performance.

From the heart-pounding overture of Rossini’s La Gazza Iadra (The Thieving Magpie) to Stravinsky’s iconic Firebird Suite, this performance takes flight with pieces focused on nature’s aviators. This must-see concert will also feature the Pennsylvania premier of Locklair’s Phoenix for Orchestra, a 2007 composition with strong brass, organ and percussion parts. The York Symphony Orchestra’s own John Eaken, Concertmaster, will be showcased as violin soloist during Vaughan Williams’ pastoral romance, The Lark Ascending.

the york Water company
Since 1816, The York Water Company has been the trusted source for “that good
York water.” As the oldest investor-owned utility in the nation, the company has
grown along with the York community for 200 years. From the first source, a spring
on Rathton Road, to the integrated system of water sources and wastewater centers
today, The York Water Company has been dedicated to ensuring York’s hydrologic
infrastructure, offering superior service to customers and a dedicated focus on
supporting the communities they serve.
It Takes A Community!Support Your York Symphony Orchestra
We look forward to sharing the 2015-2016 season with you! In addition to subscriptions and tickets, support from individual and corporate donors is critical to the York Symphony Orchestra’s ability to provide outstanding performances and dynamic education programs to over 12,000 children and youth throughout York City and County.
Want to learn more? Contact Richard Brown at 717-825-2246 or [email protected].
" Just imagine our town in 1816, the year that The York Water Company was formed by a group of local community
leaders: Just dirt roads, horses, wagons, and hard-working families. In fact, it would be another 117 years before the
creation of York's very own symphony. So sit back, and through the beauty of music, enjoy and appreciate the great
gift of water to mankind." -Jeffrey R. Hines, 21st President of The York Water Company
