The 2.75 FFAR (Folding Fin Aircraft Rocket) has an air-to-ground role and is fired from fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Its fuzing and warhead performance characteristics make it suitable for low-speed aircraft.

Constructing the SDZConstruct an SDZ for the 2.75 FFAR rocket with a MK66 motor fired into steel from an aircraft with a pitch -5° and launcher quadrant elevation of 95 mils.

Dimensions of the SDZ parameters for this weapon system are given in Chapter 13, pages 13-5 and 13-6.

Page 8: SDZ Construction: Aviation Rocketry

August 2003

Constructing the SDZFor aerial rockets, the launch angle in degrees, equals launcher QE in mils divided by 17.7 plus the aircraft pitch in degrees. For articulating launchers, use the maximum articulated QE possible plus the aircraft pitch in degrees.

Page 9: SDZ Construction: Aviation Rocketry

August 2003

Launch Angle is computed as follows:Launch angle (in degrees) =

+ Aircraft Pitch (in degrees)17.7

Launcher QE (in mils)

Launcher QE = 95 mils

17.7= 5.36° (ˆ6°)

6° - 5° = 1° (ˆ2°) Launch angle = 2°

From Table 13-1, find Distance X as measured from the cease-fire disarm line.

Distance X = 4500m

Annotate Distance X on the legend.

At the start-fire line, measure 5° with a protractor from the left and right lateral limits to establish the Dispersion Area.

Draw tic marks as shown.

To establish the Dispersion Area, draw a straight line from the firing position through each tic mark out through Distance X.

This completes the Dispersion Area.
