INTRODUCTION

This scrap book I made with my own two hands. It is a digital version of the scrapbook I have been making on this trip. An extremely bungled version. Digitising is hard,

especially on the road, on rainy days, in a full house. It has been fun, turning this paper, biro, trash, old food wrappers into pixels. Though I do not know if the process added anything to the pieces, if anything it detracted from them, warped them and cut their

edges. Regardless, it is something that I would like to keep doing and something which has its merit, the various 'scraps' of a journey painting a vivid picture: its tone, its

subtleties, the funny things. So, ScrapBook 1 can be taken as is, a step in the (right) direction. The beauty is in the process.

This is when I thought about Osaka.

I was in the gallery, they had free drawing paper and pencils so I wanted to draw me a little octopus character (octopus is the famous food) to represent my roaming of those streets. Hang on a sec, I haven't even trired the octopus! I was just

following the trend.

This reminded me of a quote by the Mary Louise Pratt (the anthropologist) saying something about not ignoring tropes

(impossible) but reimagining them. I dug seeing all the people on bikes in the city, dressed so well. I also had the idea of an

umbrella later, because they wielded these so well. It was always raining in opulent Osaka.

Alan, a guy from Hong Kong- too hyper, gave me some good advice. Firstly, a Godzilla is by character , not physical attribute. And second, shhhhh calm down, why are you so hyper!?

Can I go to sleep?Who will navigate? Moral support? Why didn't the coffee work?We wake in a convenience store carparkOne block, black groundIt takes one hour to stop falling back asleepDisgusting coffee

Dampening the reign ( rain) of capitalism

Potraits drawn with an old pen on the back of old reciepts. ViVA!

These occurred during a bus ride. I actually gave the best one away, to a guy who didn't want it. Took it awkwardly, seemed like I forced him. It was two lessons: stop pestering people; you can draw on the back of the hundred reciepts you have shuved in your wallet to pass the time.
