Spring is upon us – sports are starting up, the weather is warming, and Cub Scouts are heading outdoors. As we continue into the spring, more of our activities will be outdoors to enjoy all that Temecula has to offer. We hope you join us for our exciting outdoor opportunities: the Rocket Launch this Saturday, our May Service Project, and Grad Camp in June. This month’s core value is Compassion -a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for others stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. Throughout your life there will be people around you who are suffering. One of the goals of Scouting is to equip you with the tools to help others, but more importantly the spirit to actively help. That is why we embrace service projects, to help those around us. I challenge you to find opportunities to exercise your Compassion at home, school and community. DO YOUR BEST. “I believe that man will not merely endure. He will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.” -William Faulkner Cubmaster Charney Scout Scoop www.temeculapack301.com Pack 301 Scout Scoop 1 March 2011 1 Rocket Launch These Dens handled all of the food, set up, decorations and clean-up at the Blue and Gold. As Webelos, our den, the Soaring Eagles, get to earn many differentpins. During the month of February we worked on theCommunicator activity badge. At our den meeting we learned about aCivil War code. Prisoners used it to send messages, maybe aboutescape routes. The cipher reminded us of a keypad on old phones anda game on Club Penguin. The code is made up of boxes and dots to

represent letters. We wrote codes to say “Hawaii is awesome,” “Pack 301 is the best,” andour own names. The original code used no dots, one dot, and two dots to represent letters, but we made up our own version. Dots are placed in the same position as the letter in eachbox. Use the key below to make up your own codes!

Den 7 went to the Outdoor Channel for a tour. Here is the den in the main control room.
