Impact across age groups

• Youth unemployment (18-24 year olds) in Scotland up 0.1 percentage points– lowest increase over the past year– considerably lower than UK increase (up 1.7 percentage points)

• Youth unemployment still remains lower in Scotland at 14.0% (compared to 17.8% in the UK)

• In Scotland, 48,000 young people unemployed, making up 22.2% of all people unemployed – In the UK this is higher with 28.5% of all those unemployed aged

18-24 years

• Claimant count unemployment decreased by 1,000 over the month to April 2010

• Third consecutive monthly decrease

• Claimant count rate in Scotland is now 4.9%,

compared to 4.7% in the UK
