Article and Photos Submitted By: Dannie Fox, Chair, US 4 Corners Tour
M aybe you heard about SCMA's Four Corners Tour while reading and article in a
motorcycle rag (magazine); from a friend who read about the tour; or even from
a friend who has just completed his first Four Corners Tour and wants to do it
again with you as a riding buddy.
You go on-line and read about the Four Corners Tour on the SCMA website. Ride to the ex-
treme corners of the Continental USA in 21 days or less? California to the Florida Keys, to
Maine, and then the most northwest corner in the state of Washington? "Impossible"
you say! But as you read more of the ride description you think it might not be so bad.
You and your buddy register for the Four Corners, pay the ride fee, and mail in your Release
of Liability (ROL).
A week later your starter box arrives with all the instructions for both the Traditional and True
X, t-shirt, pin, SCMA decal, hat, and embroidered towel with your rider number on it. WOW!
There is also a business card with the Chairman's phone number and address on it to be
used for any questions you may have about the Tour.
Your confidence is building as you and your riding partner go over maps and decide how
you are going to lay out your route. You incorporate things into your route that the Chair-
man said not to miss on your ride, such as the Madawaska, ME Four Corners Park, Tail of the
Dragon in Tennessee, the Twisted Sisters in the Hill Country of Texas. Luckily, this is a tour
and NOT a race! You will have time to sightsee.
Finally, your departure day arrives. Your bike is serviced and it is in tip-top shape, packed
and ready to go. You meet up with your riding partner and head for your first corner, leav-
ing as early as possible in the day.
Your "21 days" start with the date on your first corners gas receipt no matter what time of
the day you fuel up, so don't fuel up the night before you leave, or leave at 5pm. Those are
ways to lose a lot of your "21 days".
You made it to your first corner in three or four easy days. You have been able to see new
things in some really pretty country. By riding steady, and managing your time you will do
great, getting to the next three corners.
Push on a bit when you are feeling alert and the bike is running well. Allow time to rest and
service your bike as necessary.
Make sure your camera(s) are working right. It is always recommended that you take more
than one camera. You will need to photograph yourself with your bike and your numbered
towel at each corner while also filling out the proof of visit sheets. Always remember the job

is not finished ‘til the paper work is done.
And so, the adventure starts. The sun is just rising over the horizon, you’re heading down the
highway toward Check Point #2, with your riding partner right behind you, and it's going to
be a great day and a great adventure.
It will be a game of "time management" for this trip of a life time and as the AMA calls it an
"EXTREME TOUR".
Next month: Check Point #2

SCMA eBlast: Suspension of Premier Events
Hello Everyone,
On April 10th, in response to the nation’s Virus lockdown, the board of directors suspended registering and riding premier rides (3FC registration remained open). A month later, May 18th, we re-opened registrations and lifted the suspension.
Below is the eBlast announcing the opening of all rides.
With many states lifting their social restrictions due to the Virus, the Board of Directors has decided to re-open the Premier Rides subject to the following general conditions and specific conditions.
General Conditions:
1. Riders currently registered for a Premier Ride event are subject to that event’s Specific Conditions listed below.
2. As is always the case, it is the rider’s responsibility to exercise due diligence in research-ing their routes and determining each state’s current “Virus” rules/requirements and how their ride may be affected.
3. SCMA is not a source for information regarding individual state’s lockdown rules/requirements currently in effect.
4. SCMA can offer no information in regards to masking, social distancing, and/or restau-rant/hotel/fuel/dealer availability or support.
5. Alert: Riders intending to earn a Triple Crown or Premier Grand Slam must complete all portions of the rides in that single calendar year of qualifying. No carry forwards will be accepted to qualify for the Crown or Slam awards. The intention of the Board of Di-rectors is to maintain the integrity and standards for these major awards.
Specific Conditions:
6. USA Four Corners:
a. Effective 18 May 2020, riding USA4C is open.
b. Normally, riders have a two-year window to complete the event. In view of the Co-rona Virus impact, those who were registered for the event will have the option of not riding this year and having 2021 and 2022 to complete the event.
c. Those registering for the event subsequent to 18 May 2020 will only have 2020 and 2021 to complete the event.
d. Website registrations for this event will be opened on 15 May.
7. Best 15 USA Roads Challenge:
a. Effective 18 May 2020, riding Best15USA is open.
b. Riders that completed portions of the Best15USA will be given credit for those com-pleted roads.
c. All riders will have the option of either completing the list of Roads in a single calen-dar year (2020 or 2021) or partially completing a portion of the list in 2020 and car-rying them forward to 2021 and complete the remaining unfinished 15 roads to qualify as a finisher in 2021.
d. There will be no additional extensions beyond 2021
Southern California Motorcycling Association Volume 52 Issue 06, June 2020

e. Alert: Riders using this event to qualify for a Triple Crown or Grand Slam Award(s) must complete all roads in the calendar year to qualify for the award.
f. Website registrations for this event will be opened on 18 May.
8. California Adventure Tours
a. Effective 18 May 2020, riding CA Adventures is open.
b. Riders can resume completing their CA Adventures after the suspension is lifted.
c. Those riders who do not complete their respective tours in 2020 will be given a one-year extension. However, no credit will be given for destinations completed in 2020. Riders will have to complete the full event in 2021 if riders option to extend one year. This was decided upon in view of the fact that all these rides take place in California and are much easier to complete vs the B15USA or USA4C.
d. A National Park stamp for each respective park is OPTIONAL during the 2020-riding season. All other requirements for the California Adventure rides remain in effect.
e. Website registrations for this event will be opened on 18 May.
9. Three Flags Classic:
a. As mentioned in a previous eBlast released by the 3FC Chairman, a “go or no-go” decision on holding the 3FC will be made no later than 1 Aug. Please refer to the website to read the entire eBlast.
b. Website registrations for 3FC20 will remain open as this event is not scheduled to begin until 3 September.
We appreciate your understanding and patience in waiting for this suspension to be lifted.
Please use your best judgment in making your riding decisions.
We look forward to seeing you complete your events and enjoying a summer of good rid-ing.
Ride Safe…..Ride Long

Hello Everyone! It is with sincere regret and disappointment to inform you that the 2020 Three Flags Classic Committee and the SCMA Board of Directors have canceled the 2020 TFC ride scheduled for this September. Sadly, this is the first time in nearly a half-century something so devastating has caused this to happen. We think this is the right decision given the current Covid-19 situa-tion as well as border crossings and government restrictions on gatherings.
The 2020/2021 TFC will be combined in 2021 and will be a 5-year event, hence 5 days and 4 checkpoints. We will be using the same route planned for this year. IMPORTANT! Your registration for 2020/2021 will roll over and you’re automatically registered for 2021. If you are planning on riding next year, you need to do nothing. If there is an in-crease in registration cost in 2021 you will NOT be required to pay the increased registration fee IF you leave your money on account.
If you prefer a refund please e-mail John Mickus at [email protected] and request your refund NO LATER THAN 2 PM on JUNE 30, 2020. If you request your registration fee returned, which we will gladly do, you would be subject to any increase in registration fees in 2021 if you decide to re-register. We are committed to fulfilling your request, no matter what you decide to do. If, after June 30, 2020, you elect to cancel, you will be placed on the TFC resale ticket

list and SCMA will work on finding a buyer for your registration fee after January 1, 2021 reg-istration.
The SCMA Board has allowed me to Chair the 2020-2021 TFC ride and Brian Hooker to be Vice-Chair, I’m confident this ride will be better than any Three Flags ever. With all the extra time we have to prepare, I anticipate an enormous amount of raffle prizes and some special things to make it worthy of a 5-year ride.
The first 100 registrants for 2020 will still receive something extra in 2021 if they leave their registration fee on account.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected]. I look forward to seeing you all in 2021 after this unfortunate turn of events.
We will be notifying our host hotels that they should expect cancellations for this year in the next few days. We will try, in the coming days, to negotiate similar rates for the following year. The ride dates for 2021 will be checking in Mexicali Sept. 1, 2021, depart Sept. 2. Arrive in Penticton on Monday, Sept. 6, and banquet on Sept. 7, 2021
On behalf of myself and your TFC Committee, take care of yourself, ride safely, and we’ll see you soon for an exciting 2020/2021 Three Flags Classic!
Please note that all other self-directed Premier rides such as the USA Four Corners, Best 15 Roads, etc. are open for your fun and adventure. Steven Shulman, Chairman 2020 Three Flags Classic
Brian Hooker, Vice Chairman 2020 Three Flags Classic
