the seniors pass out and go into the world as qualified architects.

The students' magazine is truly reflective of the heart and soul of young architects who stay in the college for five years, undergoing their rigorous training in the profession. It is mediums like the college magazine, which bring out the best of creative talents; especially literary imagination graphic visualisation and other skills. It is the stamp of identity of the students.

I am very much fascinated by the name that the students have imparted to their magazine i.e. "SCIO 2007". As, I understand it, it is perhaps a metaphor that they have devised from the world 'sciography' - a component of the subject of Architectural Drawing, in which shade and shadow of architectural volumes is studied. This metaphor has been extended in this case, to convey the images cast by the events, work and play in the lives of the students, in a calendar year. The magazine has a rich repertoire of that covers, experiences, events, work -- and quite happily the humorous and lighter side of being students in the CCA. As such, there is a wonderful mix of all hues and colours of the vibrant student life of the college; like the multi-hued colours of a rainbow.

I am delighted that the students of CCA have brought out their annual magazine called "SCIO 2007". It is a wonderful, ongoing tradition of the college which is being vibrantly kept alive from generation to generation and batch after batch of new students who enter every year - while

..SCIO 2007 is a very aesthetic and beautiful mosaic of different shades, shadows and silhouette of the college life. I wish it all the success and wide circulation among the architectural fraternity in the country as well as in the world.

I hope that this tradition is enriched from year to year by the talent of the CCA students and grows in content, stature and talent every year. The magazine is almost like leaves from a memoir or a diary of the days spent by the students in the college. This wonderful record of their footprints is something that should be of archival interest to the coming generations, who will subsequently enter the portals of the college and leave their own stamp of identity behind.

My compliments to the editorial team and all those who worked hard to bring out this fascinating publication. My compliments also to the faculty members who guided the editorial board.

editorial...

SCIO is a reflection of the past one year in the college. It is an icon of the ethos of C.C.A.

SCIO 2007 is an effort to change the face of the college magazine. It is a portal for the students to put forth their views and display their works.

Working on SCIO 2007 was full of excitement and inventiveness. We discovered that editorial work was not limited to editing but involved mammoth tasks like designing, management and winning over sponsors! Team work is always fun but magazine making was like one never ending submission with countless night outs : each day a new surprise…

We were extremely pleased to see that our enthusiasm was shared by the rest of the college. The experience was like a fun festival which gave every one a chance to participate. We are glad to see that the mission that started a year ago is finally complete!!

This magazine would not have been possible without the support of scores of people. We would like to thank every small effort of the students, teachers and the college staff.

Using a new design theory, researchers at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering and Imperial College London have developed the blueprint for an invisibility cloak. A Tear Drop on theFace of Time

THE TAJ MAHAL STANDS, ENIGMATIC AND MYSTICAL, HOLDING ITS PLACE IN TIME, AS THE SWOLLEN YAMUNA, RUSHES PAST - THE SAME RIVER, WHICH WAS A MEAGRE TRICKLE WHEN I HAD LAST VISITED IN JUNE. THE RIVER CHANGES ITS FORM JUST LIKE THE TAJ DOES.

The glory of the Taj is popular worldwide. Here, RICHA SARIN (Vth Sem) shares a particular incident on of her class trips when she truly experienced the beauty of this monument…

Having just returned from our class trip, I sit here and intend to freeze my memories in ink and paper…to share it before the zillion submissions make it all hazy…I am going to keep it a very personal narration… The thing is that I had visited all the proposed places about six months ago with my family - Agra, Gwalior, Indore, Mandu, and Ujjain. The entire trip was going to be a repeat for me. Although, I was questioning the validity of re-visiting the places, I decided to go anyways…and thank god for that!!!

First stop: Agra Fort. Initially, I marvelled at the scale, the construction techniques and the lavish lifestyle of the rulers. But as I caught a glimpse of the Taj Mahal from the fort, came the heart wrenching realization of how the king spent the last years of his

life in custody stealing glances of it in a diamond; grieving the loss of his beloved for years. For years! …Whoever thought happiness came with riches…The Taj Mahal stands, enigmatic and mystical, holding its place in time, as the swollen Yamuna, rushes past - the same river, which was a meagre trickle when I had last visited in June. The river changes its form just like the Taj does. After clicking enough zoomed up pictures from the Fort, my natural tendency was to get to the Taj Mahal, and quick! True, it is some consolation to look at it from afar, but eventually, you have to get there and feel it - with your senses and with everything that you are…

'This will be the third time I will see it', I reminded myself. When I saw it for the first time, I was fourteen. I had marvelled at its apparent beauty. Then I saw it in June, I was a student of architecture. So, of course, my mind could sense the more subtle exquisiteness of it. Last time, I had felt the marble burn under my bare feet on the hottest day of the year; Taj was like a smouldering ice brick - glaring white - it was the exact example of what the phrase 'ice on fire' meant…

What will I feel the third time? My mind was still trying to select an emotion fit for the occasion, when I just walked in and had the first glance…hallelujah! The blessing in marble! To add to it was the lush green grass, the heavenly breeze and the thick bank of clouds promising rain. The moment will always be a part of my reminiscence.Transfixed, I walked, drawn towards it with unknown strings. I am sure everyone feels the pull of these invisible strings. The clouds burst as promised, giving way to violent rain. By the time I was half way to the built, it was pouring most heavily. There was no use thinking about shelter. I was already drenched like most of my classmates. So, we entrusted our cameras and belongings with those who had managed to remain dry… and stepped out into the rain…Now, I hardly get wet in the rain… but this time, I was glad I did! Soon I was squealing like a kid. It was an immensely liberating experience for me… a time when I let go and reverted to the more fundamental form of experience - the way kids always have fun no matter where the are. What made it unique was the fact, that it was the Taj Mahal! It was raining very heavily and at the point the horizon merged with the

river, you couldn't tell where one ended and the other began… This time, the great monument was enjoying the rain with us, its big spouts brought down water in huge cascades, which became our waterfalls… We took turns challenging each other and standing under them! The rain went on for half an hour and that is, torrential rain. When it reduced to a drizzle, all those who had clustered up inside came out, looking at us with scornful eyes.

But I knew better. Because at that point of time, I felt like a new person. As if, I had, literally, been rinsed of any residual thoughts and emotions. All the pain I felt for the king, all the facts about Taj being built in 22 years, with twenty thousand artisans and the fact that the king chopped off the hands of the artisans, and the marble being shipped from wherever, etc…all that was washed away.It was then, that I experienced the true beauty, the glory of The Taj Mahal for the first time. And how often does a person feel that way?

Thus, we mustered courage, as we had some unknown fear regarding the behaviour of our seniors, and decided to walk around the college. Initially I didn't have a good impression of the building. It's a strange thing to know how curiosity takes over us at times. RICHA SARIN recalls cruising the forbidden crypts…

This certain experience of mine, I had the luck to share it with a good friend, Saumya. It was in Gwalior fort, in Man Singh's palace, that the two of us were moving around, discovering things on our own. In this certain courtyard, a group of very excited classmates told us that they had just been in the levels underground. We could see from the animation of their faces and the thrill in their voice that the place held some promise… What was there underground???“But”, they warned us. “Its very dark. Don't go without a torch. It's a warning.” And because both of us were 'fragile' girls, they suggested we take some guy classmates along… you know, for security against shady local men.

In due course of time, they all left and only the two of us remained in the courtyard. After we had fiddled enough with our cameras and taken all the important pictures, only one task remained, to check out what lay beneath the courtyard. One problem, no classmate was around, either a boy or a girl. And we did not have a torch. “I have the cell”, suggested Saumya. “Yeah, yeah, Nokia1100 - torch is suffi, and if not, I will switch on the L.C.D. of my camera…. Let's go…”

Society constantly puts a pressure on individuals to be practical and ordinary. But creative people ignore the disapproval with their care-a-damn attitude. Almost every legendary personality had to abide ridicule or rejection.

Day I started, like every year, with the banner-making contest. Inauguration ceremony (or Archo Devi ki pooja, as our seniors would say!) was held in the afternoon in the college courtyard, followed by matka painting competition (Kalinga in the lead). The evening observed sports events of volleyball, throw ball and football.

Small yet interesting events like lampshade design, origami, treasure hunt and debate were held on the tenth day.The night witnessed the favourite event of many in the college. All those willing to know the flip side of academics in college packed themselves in the audi for one minute performances such as ad zap, volte face, mudra, no hands, spin a yarn and besura singing competition, to name a few. All the besura singers (to put it mildly) who had to be content till now entertaining the showers and taps in the loos finally had an audience.P.S. the competition was tough this year.

The ninth day saw a dull morning because of the rain. Nevertheless, the athletics meet was held and the students enthusiastically participated in an array of events like races, javelin throw, and long jump, et al. The college night outs started as well for the preparation of cultural night along with loads of fun.

The seventh day started with the popular face painting competition (not worth missing), followed by Strike your Imagination and basketball & table tennis matches for both boys and girls, which continued the following day along with jewellery design contest. An exciting match of boys' final cricket was also held on the eighth day (won by Maurya House).

The much awaited cricket matches started the next day, taking up most of the fifth and the sixth days. All the denizens of this college gathered in around the field while the air echoed with their cheers! And when the heat of the match (literally) became too much to take, there was always the option of relaxing in the canteen and sipping nimbu paani… The girls cricket finals were won by Kanishka house. Along with these, sketching with music and kite making were held.

The sports events held in these two days included the finals of football and throw ball (won by Kanishka and Maurya house respectively.) A college vs. alumni cricket match was also held.

And finally, through with the sports and cultural events, the semi final day (or should I say evening) drew upon us. Sh. As the balmy evening breeze blew, t h e c o u r t y a r d w a s transformed into a theatre of melody. All the guests were enchanted by this breathtaking performance.

The cultural night has always been the grandpere of all entertainment in the college festival, when the students put forth mesmerizing stage performances in dance, drama, singing, etc. The audience was left amazed and the stage was set ablaze by the multi talented CCAites. The various competitions including group dance, jugalbandi, play, duet singing and free for all were held followed by the declaration of results. The courtyard was filled with the howls of the winning houses. Kalinga and Kanishka won the play and dance respectively. After that, all the guests assembled on the canteen deck for a sumptuous dinner.

The valedictory function was held on the last and final day of Archo. The chief guest Mr. Subir Saha addressed the guests and handed away the prizes to all the winners and deserving participants. A contented and cheerful Kalinga house won the overall trophy.

As per the tradition, a dance party was held in the evening. All those who did and did not win hurried off to the dance floor that was all set for them to tango/salsa/jive their way through! Words by: Shilpa Ahuja

Design to architecture mein dil ki zuban hota hai,Achha design to sada bezuban hota hai,

Assignment mein zero bhi mile to kya ghabrana,Suna hai topper bhi cheating kar ke pass hota hai....

Yawn karne de tu aaj humko tu sustane de, Lecture hall me baith ja aur khud ko so jane de.

Tere lecture mein mujhe attendance mil jaaye,Teri submission mein mera PC fanaa ho jaaye.

Adhoori assignment thi attendance adhoori thi adhoore hum,Magar ab sessional poora hai just line pe aur ab poore hain hum.

Nahi likhe agar nasib mein mere number,To khatam kar ye project aur submission fanaa karde.

The geography teacher is telling the students about monkeys that live in India. Suddenly he notices that Susan isn't listening. “Susan, stop whatever you are doing and look at me otherwise you will never know what a monkey looks like.”

A school Principal concluded his speech on Mother's day by pointing to the congregation and firing a question “where would you be right now if it weren't for your mother?” The silence that followed was broken by a six year old boy, “At home”, he replied.

Once a woodcutter went near the river to cut trees. While doing so his axe fell in the river and he started praying to the river God to bring it back. Listening to his cry the river God appeared and offered him a silver axe. The woodcutter refused. Then the river God offered Him a golden axe but The woodcutter refused to accept that also and asked for his own. Impressed, the river God gave him his iron axe along with the silver and golden ones as a reward.

Few weeks later the same woodcutter came with wife for a picnic. While they were walking his wife fell in the river. The woodcutter cried for help and again the river God came to his rescue. The god said, “I will bring you your wife.” And suddenly Britney Spears appeared and God asked, “Is this you wife?” The woodcutter promptly agreed. Knowing that the woodcutter was lying, the God got angry and said “You liar! You have become dishonest within a few weeks”.

The woodcutter trembled and said “Sorry my lord! But if I had spoken the truth then you would have showed me Jennifer Lopez as the second option and my wife as the third just like last time. Once I identified my real wife, you would have awarded me with all three of them. But my lord, I am a poor man and cannot afford all three of them so I thought of having only one.”

Architecture Ki Kahani..Student Ke Zubani.....

Baithe the hum ek din pareshan se,College ke syllabus ko dekh hairan the;

Us kshan mein aaya mujhe khayal,Kyun na kiya jaaye knock prabhu ka dwaar.

Hey prabhu is daas ki itni vinti sweekar kijiye,Meri kashti nadi ke us par kijiye.

In sessionals ko kiya kisne ijaad tha,Wo aadmi tha yaa jadoo ki koi karamat tha?

Design ki toh baat ke hi kya kehne,Space, proportion, scale nahi use kiye kabhi maine.

A.D. ke siva mujhe kuch bhaata nahin hai; Kya karoon perspective mujhe aata nahin hai.

A.D. ki rekhaon ne mujhe aur bhi uljhaa diya-3-D aur scio ne mujhe aur bhi bhadka diya.

Pi gayi construction is shareer ke khoon ko, Details, section, aur plan kar detien hain behaal mujh mazloom ko.

Climatology ka toh kya kehna,Chand aur suraj ka pura itihaas bataya hai -Koenisberger ke pannon mein mahabharat ka sakshat karaya hai...

Estimating and costing ne to humein marketing ka experience dilaya hai,Materials ka hisab lagate lagate mera bhi kaal nikat aaya hai.

Nahin pustakon mein kuch aata mujhe nazar,Raat 12 baje ke baad baithta hoon books khol kar.

Parikshaon ki din jaise aate jaate hain sameep, Dimag ka har panna hota jaata hai aur bhi neat.

Isliye bhagwan main aaya hoon tere dar pe,Ho jaye har sessional clear aisa var de... o u t l o o k . . .

The Brutal Angelo -Purnesh Dev Nikhanj

Ist SemBeauty so rare,

Girl so fair,In the whiff of cool air,I did stare, I did stare…

Beauty sublime,Hearts recline

In the winds with chimes,She was mine, she was mine.

In the romantic pose-Our breaths so close.

Hands in hands-Eyes in eyes;

Surely, there was some spice.

Her voice was golden,Her love was pure.I was with an angel,

Of that I'm sure.

Then came the day,That fate had held,

“Mr. Destiny, please don't do that!”I yelled, I yelled.

She left me without saying a word,And began the tragedy unheard,

I cried, I begged, I asked her why?Why did she leave me alone to die?

I cried, I sighed,But all in vain.

I was left all alone in this pain.I cried, I yelled

My voice did croak-But even after the masterstroke,My heart broke, my heart broke.74

ADVICE FOR BOYS Satinder Singh Bisht Ist Sem

If one girl looks at you,

Be sure, she likes you.

If two girls are looking at you,

Certainly they are talking about you.

If three girls are looking at you,

They are making a fool out of you.

If four girls are looking at you,

Then apply safety precaution!
