What is ScINET-PHIL?It is The Science and

Technology InformationNetwork of the Philippines.



The DOST Science and Technology

Information Network of the

Philippines (ScINET-PHIL) is a

consortium of libraries andinformation centers of the 21

agencies under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).







It aims to organize andcoordinate the information

sourcing and sharing in theDOST system.



Its general objective is topromote and improve the flow

and use of science andtechnology (S&T) information

through resource sharing andnetworking.



ScINET-PHIL's specificobjectives are:

To develop information products

and services;

to enhance the collection of

information in both print and

non-print formats;



to upgrade infrastructure forresource sharing and

networking;

to develop human resourcecapability in the information

services sector;



to establish linkages andresource sharing

arrangements with othernational and internationalS&T libraries and informationcenters.



The 20 agencies underScINET-PHIL are:

12 agencies in the Bicutan area, namely: 1. Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC)

2. National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP)3. Science Education Institute (SEI)4. Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI)5. Science and Technology Information Institute (STII)

6. Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI)7. National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST)8. Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI)9. Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI)10. Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research andDevelopment (PCIERD)

11. Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology Researchand Development (PCASTRD) and12. Philippine Council for Health Research and Development(PCHRD).



Three (3) agencies in Los Baños,Laguna area, namely:

1. Forest Products Research and

Development Institute (FPRDI)

2. Philippine Council for Agriculture,Forestry and Natural Resources Research

and Development (PCARRD) and

3. Philippine Council for Aquatic andMarine Research and Development

(PCAMRD).



Five (5) agencies in the Diliman-Quezon City area, namely:

The Marine Information and Data Archive System

was initiated in 1999 by UPMSI and DOST-PCAMRD under the South China Sea Research

program. After the project ended, MIDAS was

maintained by the Marine Science Institute

getting support from various projects andagencies.

Requirements/Criteria for Membership inScINET-PHIL



• In 2003, the DOST SciNET Phil Union Catalog

was completed to facilitate fast search andretrieval of S & T information in the science

community by providing a single entry point

to all library collections and other information

within the DOST system.

• It is web-based and serves as search engine

for S & T information that shall retrieve

available information in the data center.
