Scientific Processes

Page 2: Scientific processes

1. Observing- It is a basic science process.- It can be direct or indirect- Direct observation- involves

the use of the 5 senses.- Indirect observation- includes

reading, listening, recording and examining maps, pictures and other materials.

Observing- It can be:-Qualitative- observation using only descriptive words.-Quantitative- observations using number measurement.

2. Comparing- Discovering the similarities and

difference in the properties of objects and events.

- Use of tables, graphs, chart or other ways of presentations.

3. Classifying- is the process of arranging, grouping, or

sorting of things according to the characteristics they possess.

- Classifying helps prevents confusion.

4. Measuring- Is the process of expressing a

quantity using standard called unit.

5. Predicting

-is the process of making a forecast based on observed events.- Predictions can be accurate if they are based on present as well as past observations.

6. Inferring- Using a tentative conclusion or

an interpretation which is based on observation.

7. Interpreting Data- Explaining the meaning of

something.- Information or data needs to

mean something.

8. Communicating- Presenting the findings, data, or

results.

Manipulating and Controlling Variables Controlled variables/

dependent variables- factors that were kept constant or the same.

Manipulated or independent variables- factors that are changed.

Scientific Method

- Principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.

Scientific MethodIs a way to organize your thinking

about everyday questions as well as questions that you might think of as scientific. Using scientific method helps you find and evaluate possible answers
