About grasslands animals

Grasslands lack the trees and heavy bush to hide many creatures. Because of the open landscape and the widely spaced trees, grasslands are home to large herds of grazing mammals such as the zebra and bison. Annual rainfall in the grasslands is between 10 to 30 inches, there is a seasonal drought every year. Many animals are active only during the rainy season

About aquatic habitatsWhen considering aquatic habitats,

many variables come to mind. Obviously, there is a continuum of salinity ranging from essentially distilled water at glacier faces and high mountain streams, to other freshwaters, to estuaries where fresh and salt waters mix, to oceans, to hypersaline environments such as the Great Salt Lake. Current is another factor; water may be still and stagnant, or flow in currents of various velocities.

What is aquatic habitat ?Healthy and diverse habitats mean healthy and diverse populations of fish. Habitats are simply those places where aquatic species live.Aquatic habitats can be described in many ways including:the natural materials that comprise the habitat (e.g. rocks, coral, gravel, sand and mud),the type of vegetation present (e.g. macrophytes, snags, seaweeds, seagrasses, mangroves and saltmarsh),the shape and nature of the habitat (e.g. pools and riffles, billabongs, reefs), or the overall ecosystem (e.g. wetlands, floodplains, streams, estuaries, lakes, beaches).

How fish use aquatic habitats ?We all know fish live in water. However, water alone will not ensure that a fish is able to survive. Fish need habitat! The habitat is the water and all the other things that the fish needs to complete its lifecycle: like food and places to shelter (like snags or coral) and to breed (like gravel beds or seagrass). Some native fish also have to move between different habitats as they mature and breed.Different species have different habitat requirements and these may change throughout a fish’s life. A fish’s habitat is more than just the water. The water has to be the right type (freshwater, estuarine or saltwater), temperature, quantity (depth and flow) and quality.

About mountain region animals

These habitats are normally very cold and windy . In some areas , snowfall may take place in winters there is a large variety of plants and animals living in the mountain regions. Animals living in the mountain regions are also adapted to the conditions there . They have thick skin or fur to protect them from cold. For example :- yaks have long hair to keep them warm. Snow leopard has thick fur on its body including feet and toes.

This protect its feet from cold when it walks on the snow. The mountain goat has strong hooves for running up the rocky slopes of the mountains.

About desertAnimals in the desert must survive in a

hostile environment. Intense heat, searing sun, and lack of water are just a few of the challenges facing desert animals.  Animals that live in the hot desert have many adaptations. Some animals never drink, but get their water from seeds (some can contain up to 50% water) and plants. Many animals are nocturnal, sleeping during the hot day and only coming out at night to eat and hunt. Some animals rarely spend any time above ground. Spadefoot toads spend nine months of every year underground!

A desert is defined as a region that receives very little rainfall. It can be hot or cold. These are various types of deserts all around the world, from the harsh elements of sahara desert in africa to the four desert of the south western united states . Areas in antarctica are examples of cold deserts.

Page 13: Scienceprojectwork

The animals that live in the desert usually have special adaptations that allow them to survive the extreme temperatures and conditions that are present in a desert.  A good example of an animal with special adaptations is the camel.  A camel can drink very large amounts of water in one day or survive for a relatively long time without drinking any water.

Some animals of the desert are also endangered, including the Lappet-Faced Vulture, which is categorized as vulnerable.
