Science Week

Everyone had an exciting time developing their scientific investigation skills during this year’s Science week:

Year 1 learnt about the Jurassic world of dinosaurs - sorting them into sets based on different physical characteristics (e.g. neck size and teeth shape) using a Venn diagram and they even went hunting for their footprints in the Friendship Gardens!

Year 2 investigated whether girls are smaller than boys by doing lots of measuring, recording in tables and drawing of pictograms to present their findings!

Year 3 completed exciting missions like finding out what the features of a long-flying paper aeroplane are and how to build a periscope to peek around corners.

Year 4 made observations of the flora growing around school and made bird feeders to encourage birds to visit the Friendship Gardens!

Year 5 became CSIs to solve the mystery of who stole a mobile phone, measuring how long it takes for tea to cool and measuring how the average size of a splat of liquid changes when dropped from different heights (to find out how tall the culprit was after he left some blood stains).

Year 6 imagined they were stranded on a desert island and needed to purify sea water so compared different types of filters to create their own solar stills.

As well as all this, the whole school enjoyed watching a performance of a science-themed show called Bunsen Towers in which the children had to solve the mystery of the missing diamond by applying their knowledge of separating mixtures and states of matter.

Year 1 Eureka! Trip

Year 3 visited the historical city of Chester where they: marched around the streets dressed as Roman soldiers, were given a guided tour of the old amphitheatre and visited the Dewa Roman Experience to learn about what daily life was like in the city 2,000 years ago.

Commemorative coins

To commemorate Queen Elizabeth II becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch, everybody was given a special golden coin to keep and cherish.

Year 6 helped to lead this year’s Harvest service, in which they explained about the grain chain and read part of Psalm 65 to remind people everyone how God provides for us.

Year 2 Touchstones Trip

Year 1 had a great time at Eureka! where they visited the My Body exhibit and pretended to be: doctors, dentists and nurses to help them learn about how their bodies function. They also took part in a workshop about healthy eating, in which they investigated fruits and vegetables.

Ordsall hall

Year 5 visited Ordsall Hall in Salford to learn about what life was like living there during the Tudor period. The children explored the different rooms of the house and dressed up in Tudor clothes to take part in a mock Tudor feast, complete with traditional dancing.

Crucial crew

Year 6 went 'crucial crewing' to learn all about how to safely deal with dangerous or challenging situations such as fires and traffic accidents.

Food to fork

Year 2 visited Tesco Extra where they: explored the produce department, created their own fruit kebabs, looked around the bakery and made their own bread.
