Our Goals…Student Goals: We want the students to:

• develop scientific inquiry skills• develop an understanding of the

basic properties of both magnets and matter

• Practice working cooperatively in small groups

Teacher Goals: • Guide students through the

inquiry process• Develop activities that are

engaging and age appropriate for our students

What went well… Students were engaged in all lessons Lesson plans effectively taught the

intended learning objectives Working as a group improving our collaboration skills

What Didn’t Go So Well: Our Learning Cycle… Classroom management issue Giving materials out to observe before having them plan and write down their hypothesis Wish we knew about cooperative learning groups for the learning cycle! Needed more structured approach to fill out record sheets

What We Learned From Our Experiences…

Test your activities and experiments in advance!!! Be flexible How to create several types of science lessons, including the discovery circus, learning cycle, and independent activities How to work collaborativelywith other “teachers”

Personal views of ourselves as teachers…

Heather-Teaching science is an art AND a science. There is no formula for teaching the perfect lesson… teachers must be flexible, know their student, and adapt the lesson when necessary!

Jennifer- I think that I will be a great teacher as soon as I learn to be a little more aggressive with classroom management!

Katie- Ask me next September! I thing if I had to change something about my teaching skills, it would be my science vocabulary. I feel like I need to develop my terminology in order to be a more effective science teacher!
