INTRODUCTION
Every country has some part of its land under forests. These forests are home for around 10,000 species. India has 21% under its forest cover but this percentage is gradually decreasing. In this presentation we will explain endemic species of animals and migration of birds.
ENDEMIC SPECIES Can any of you tell the meaning of the
word endemic?Endemic means to be a native or be
restricted to a particular place. So as the name suggests, endemic species are those which are found in particular regions only. North-East India, Western Ghats, North-Western Himalayas and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have rich of endemic species.
EXAMPLES OF ENDEMIC SPECIESSome endemic species include- Lion-tailed Macaque found in Western Ghats Malabar Parakeet found in Malabar region Nilgiri Langur found in Nilgiri hills Nilgiri Tahr found in Nilgiri hills Great Indian Bustard Peacock

PROJECT TIGERWhat comes to your mind when you hear the word Project Tiger? This is a conservational program which
helps in saving our national animal, tiger. Launched in 1973, this had been proved beneficial for tiger population in India. There was a rapid decrease in the tiger population because of hunting and poaching them either for their skin, claws or other body parts.
RED LIST AND RED DATA BOOKMany of you would have heard or
read about red list. Do you have any idea what is it?
Red list is a compiled list with the names of all endangered species. Red Data Book provides information about population status of endangered species.
MIGRATION What is meant by the word
migration?Migration means to move from one
place to another either because of food, shelter, basic needs or because of favorable conditions. Animals migrate in groups either because of weather changes or because of breeding purposes. Birds are expert at travelling to long distances.
EXAMPLES OF MIGRATORY BIRDSSome examples of migratory birds are- Arctic tern Siberian Cranes Greater Flamingo Rosy Pelican White Wagtail Yellow Wagtail Spotted Redshank
