Application recommendations for wipe dispensing systemsWipe dispensing systems have become
an indispensable part of every practice
for safe and user-friendly surface disinfec-
tion, particularly in the medical eld. That
the dispensing systems can be re lled by
the user furthermore ensures the desired
cost-e ectiveness of the disinfection pro-
cedure.
This unavoidably calls for an appropriate
treatment of the wipe dispensers by their
users, if a perfectly hygienic and e ective
application of the disinfectant wipes is to
be ensured.
Please allow us to explain the most impor-
tant aspects of safe wipe dispenser use
below.
DESOTEX quality seal:
Being the only disinfectant manufactu-
rer with a wipe production division of its
own allows Dr. Schumacher GmbH to en-
sure optimal process and hygiene control
throughout the entire wipe processing
work ow. As an expert and brand manu-
facturer for non-woven wipes, Dr. Schu-
macher GmbH gives greatest priority to
perfectly hygienic production processes.
To ensure this high quality, various micro-
biological control measures are applied
throughout the GMP-certi ed production
division at Dr. Schumacher GmbH – st-
arting from the raw materials via various
in-process controls up to the nished pro-
duct. The high hygienic standards of these
wipes are then safeguarded for their sto-
rage and transport to customers by her-
metically sealing the nished products.
Wipe quality:
Our Desco Wipes and Eco Wipes are made
from 100 % synthetic bre (polyester b-
re, PET). They contain no cellulose/visco-
se parts and ensure an optimal release of
their active ingredient during application.
The material used for these wipes prevents
the possible bonding (adsorption) of cer-
tain substances to the wipe observable in
the case of mixed bre composition or na-
tural bre materials.

a dispensing system has been repeated-
ly con rmed by Dr. Schumacher GmbH
for many years since by means of supple-
mentary laboratory tests (recovery rate
and ingredient release to surface) as well
as expert opinions (microbiological stabi-
lity, disinfectant e ectiveness).
Disinfectant e ectiveness when using
Eco Wipes and Desco Wipes dispensing
systems:
There are no testing standards as yet for
establishing the e ectiveness of disin-
fectant wipes from wipe dispensers (as a
disinfectant). Wipe dispensers are hence
frequently used without proof in hand of
the e ectiveness of the wipe-based disin-
fection procedure in terms of actual disin-
fection.
It is for this reason that Dr. Schumacher
GmbH has been engaged in checking the
e ectiveness of its own disinfectant wipes
(Desco Wipes, Eco Wipes) for many ye-
ars, over and beyond the obligatory tests
dedicated to establishing the disinfectant
performance of the liquid used, which
are performed by independent experts
in keeping with standard methods de -
ned by the Association for Applied Hygie-
ne (VAH), also under similar conditions as
those found in practice.
Successfully tested in combination
with Desco Wipes and Eco Wipes:
Another decisive innovation for Dr. Schu-
macher Desco Wipes and Eco Wipes
dispensing systems is now provided by
their comprehensive testing and evalua-
tion for e ectiveness as a disinfectant by
way of the new four- eld method. These
practice-oriented tests are already based
on the VAH methods and European EN
standards of the future and con rm the
e ectiveness of wipe disinfection at the
recommended concentrations and so-
aking times, as well as the recommended
dispensing system saturation volumes,
for many disinfectants made by Dr. Schu-
macher GmbH.
The products already tested and exami-
ned at this moment in time include our
surface disinfectants Cleanisept, Bigu-
anid Fläche N, Optisal N and Opti-
sept, as well as Descosept AF and De-
scosept Pur.

These expert opinions furthermore allow
proof to be established for dispenser life-
times of up to 28 days. These e ectiven-
ess tests are not only referred to as being
of outstanding importance in the new
recommendations issued by the Disin-
fectant Commission, but also provide the
best basis available so far for con rming
the service life of disinfectant wipe dispen-
sers, one that should be preferable from a
user perspective.
Preparing wipe dispensers for reuse:
The current VAH publication speci es
that non-woven wipe dispensers should
be subjected to a disinfectant cleaning
process before being re lled, including
their lid. Chemo-thermal treatment is
meanwhile recommended because it
is generally easier to standardize. Dr.
Schumacher’s Desco Wipes and Eco
Wipes dispensing systems can be machi-
ne-treated up to a maximum temperature
of 60°C. But the dispensers can also be dis-
infected manually by wiping them with
a disinfectant (preferably using a
fast-acting alcohol-based disin-
fectant). This approach may
be more practicable, but is nonetheless
safe in hygienic terms. Suitable products
for fast-acting disinfection are our Desco-
sept AF Wipes and Descosept Pur (for
application in the food industry).
Once they have been dried o complete-
ly, the wipe dispensing systems can then
be re lled again. Their disinfection e ec-
tively prevents the contamination of non-
woven wipe dispensers. In addition to this,
random testing of wipe dispenser con-
tents is recommended in keeping with
the recommendations of the Disinfectant
Commission [1], in order to be able to de-
tect contaminations early on.

Information regarding Health- and Disinfection measures in case of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome)
PathogenThe SARS-Corona virus is a so called enve-loped virus which can be transferred easily, mainly by aerosols, between humans. Like all enveloped viruses (in uenza viruses, pig u viruses, Hepatitis B and C viruses), SARS-Corona viruses possess only low le-vel resistance against most disinfectants. Transmission A human-to-human-transmission occurs predominantly by airborne infection / ae-rosol, e.g. through coughing or sneezing. Infection can also be caused by hand con-tact to contaminated surfaces and objects.
DisinfectantsDisinfectants classi ed as active against enveloped viruses such as In uenza viru-ses, Hepatitis B and C viruses, are also acti-ve against SARS-Corona viruses.
The following Dr. Schumacher products are suitable for disinfection purposes in cases of SARS:
Hand disinfectionAll products which are active against en-veloped viruses (tested with Vaccinia virus and BVDV/Hepatitis C virus) are fully active against SARS-Corona viruses.

Recommendation for Reprocessing of Ultrasound HeadsThe requirements for preparing the ult-
rasound heads in surgeries have gained
increasingly more importance over the
past few years: Apart from a practicable
application, re-using the ultrasound head
requires a disinfection to be fast and high-
ly e ective with as little material wear as
possible at the same time.
An immersion disinfection after every
patient’s examination is not possible with
many ultrasound heads due to their de-
sign.
Practical working processes are not re-
ally designed for such a time consuming
immersion disinfection so that a reliable
hygiene measure can only be kept with a
disinfectant specially designed for this ap-
plication with a particularly high material
compatibility.
Using Cleanisept® Wipes has represen-
ted a practicable and well established so-
lution for years for disinfecting ultrasound
heads after each patient’s examination
and is recommended by hygiene experts1.
The virus-inactivating e ectiveness of the
product comprises all human pathogenic
viruses relevant for the application area
within a short exposure time (max. 2 mi-
nutes).
Comparable products of other manufac-
turers on the contrary, require up to 30
minutes of exposure time for a virucidal
disinfection, hence are only restrictedly
suitable for a disinfection after each ultra-
sound application.
Cleanisept® Wipes have a fast bacteri-
cidal, yeasticidal and virus-inactivating
e ect. They are e ective against all en-
veloped viruses such as HBV/ HCV/HIV/
herpes-viruses (restrictedly virucidal acc.
to RKI-recommendation) and particularly
e ective against Rota- and Papova-/Polyo-
ma-viruses. The soaking liquid of the Clea-
nisept® Wipes is VAH- and ÖGHMP- listed.

Product Introduction
Introduction of Asepto- product family.
The product range of Dr. Schumacher GmbH has become more and more ex-tensive in the past years: regularly, new and innovative products – with new na-mes - have been integrated. By now, not only customers in the Middle East but also other countries in the world are struggling to look through the variety of names and have di culties to derive the eld of ap-plication only from the product name. “As a result, we decided to launch a product family for our di erent hand and skin dis-infectants and simultaneously establish a family branding” states Ulrich Fülster, Mar-keting Manager of Dr. Schumacher GmbH. With this change, everything becomes clearer and easier to understand. The pro-duct family consists of two “siblings”: one of them Aseptoman®. Aseptoman® summa-rizes all Dr. Schumacher hand disinfectants which have been specially developed to be e ective against multi-resistant pathogens which play a major role in the disinfection of hands: Aseptoman® (former: Septo-derm® Hände), Aseptoman® Plus, Asep-toman® perfume-free and Aseptoman®
Gel (former „Septoman® Gel“).
The second line is Aseptoderm® which will include - along with the correspondent skin disin-fectant - also Aseptoderm® coloured (former: Septoderm® Haut gefärbt). For a set period of time, Septoderm® Hände will maintain an exceptional Positi-on: “Due to existing arrangements, regist-rations and tenders that need to be served we will continue to sell this product under this name for the time being and mean-while prepare the medium-term conver-sion” says Ulrich Fülster. With the launch of product families, he predicts, “it will be-come a lot easier to strengthen the positi-on of our highly e ective and at the same compliant hand and skin disinfectants on the national and especially the internatio-nal market.
