Our Strengths: Construction Bond Work

Two schools in West Salem will open in the fall of 2011

Two more elementary schools will open in the fall of 2012

Bond money cannot be used for district operations oranything other than construction, repair,

and renovation

Budget Overview and Outlook

We have cut about $50 million in the last two years

We spent down reserves and they do not replenish

themselves

We had state rainy day funds and federal stimulusfunds to shore up our deficit and those are going

away

Minimize the impact on students.

Provide security for our employees by saving jobs as

much as possible.

Position ourselves for future years (i.e. remainfinancially strong and optimize student achievement

opportunities).

Move forward in a way that brings us closer together.

Next year will be different

We believe the shortfall will be at least as bad as last

year, or worse.

We may not have stimulus dollars

We may not have state rainy day funds

We will not have the same ability to protect

instruction. We will not have our own reserves

There are few major purchases we could cut
