General Education Classroom

Students with special needs are educated in regular classes for most of the day, or at least half of the day. Specialized services are often provided outside the classroom, in which the student leaves the classroom to attend smaller, more intensive instructional sessions, or to receive other related service such as speech and language therapy, occupational and/or physical therapy, and social work in a resource room.

Collaborative Classroom Collaborative Classroom

The Collaborative Classroom has two or more educators in a classroom, a certified special ed teacher and general ed teacher, delivering or assisting in the daily lesson. The No Child Left Behind Act, more standardized testing and the inclusion laws require schools to find alternative ways to deliver instruction and meet the needs of a larger variety of students. Co-teaching in the collaborative classroom is when both teachers plan, deliver and assess the student's work.

Home schooling is the education of children at home, typically by parents or tutors. Home schooling is a legal option for parents to provide their children with a learning environment as an alternative to publicly-provided schools. Parents cite numerous reasons to home school, including better academic test results, poor public school environment, improved character/morality development. It is also an option for families living in isolated rural locations or living abroad.
