School Closure Newsletter. Day 3: Wednesday 25 th March 2020 Message for children from Mr Green. Good Morning girls and boys. Another beautiful sunny day... and no-one was sun-burned I hope. Staying safe is important so do keep in the shade at peak UV times of day. I’m sure that you haven’t left home for a few days now, so do enjoy being in the garden as much as you can but be sensible about it. Have you been keeping up with your home learning each day? Remember to do this so that you will be ready for school when we come back in a few weeks’ time. Have you continued to be on your best behaviour? If your behaviour slipped at any time, then now might be a good time to say sorry and make it better. Have you been keeping things tidy, putting away toys, and going to bed on time? On Monday I suggested becoming an expert in a subject of your choice. I wonder if you have started yet? I wonder what you are becoming an expert in... This COVID19 situation is a real nuisance isn’t it. So long as we follow the rules then we can stay safe... but there is a danger of getting bored and arguing. That wouldn’t be good. It’s important to keep getting exercise for our bodies and getting exercise for our minds... and it’s important to rest too... it’s ok to go and sit quietly on you own, maybe with a good book or puzzle from time to time. Do find time away from a screen every day and do make sure that you spend some time in the open air every day. Take care, be good, and I’ll write again tomorrow. Mr Green. Wednesday 25 th March. Message for parents, carers and grandparents from Simon Green, Head teacher. New message: The law has changed as I’m sure you know. For legal wording please see https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/874742/Ful l_guidance_on_staying_at_home_and_away_from_others__1_.pdf New message: We are exploring ways to catch and keep a record of learning during this period. The purpose would be to celebrate your work at home that supports your child’s learning. I’d be really grateful if you could take some photos of your child learning and perhaps give us a very brief caption to accompany the photo. We haven’t yet worked out how we will do this, but it’d be great if you could take some great photos for us all. No further new messages. School Closure Newsletter. Day 3: Wednesday 25th March 2020
Message for children from Mr Green.
Good Morning girls and boys.
Another beautiful sunny day... and no-one was sun-burned I hope. Staying safe is important so do keep in the shade
at peak UV times of day. I’m sure that you haven’t left home for a few days now, so do enjoy being in the garden as
much as you can but be sensible about it.
Have you been keeping up with your home learning each day? Remember to do this so that you will be ready for
school when we come back in a few weeks’ time.
Have you continued to be on your best behaviour? If your behaviour slipped at any time, then now might be a good
time to say sorry and make it better.
Have you been keeping things tidy, putting away toys, and going to bed on time?
On Monday I suggested becoming an expert in a subject of your choice. I wonder if you have started yet? I wonder
what you are becoming an expert in...
This COVID19 situation is a real nuisance isn’t it. So long as we follow the rules then we can stay safe... but there is a
danger of getting bored and arguing. That wouldn’t be good. It’s important to keep getting exercise for our bodies
and getting exercise for our minds... and it’s important to rest too... it’s ok to go and sit quietly on you own, maybe
with a good book or puzzle from time to time. Do find time away from a screen every day and do make sure that you
spend some time in the open air every day.
Take care, be good, and I’ll write again tomorrow.
Mr Green. Wednesday 25th March.
Message for parents, carers and grandparents from Simon Green, Head teacher.

Riddle Time - I have a little house in which I live all alone. My house has no doors or windows, and if I want to go out
I must break through the wall. What am I? English – Let’s think about the choice of vocabulary we can use when being persuasive.
• Think of three different synonyms for each of the following words: Nice Dark Warm
Use this website to help: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/wordThermometer/index.html
• Write 5 reasons why you should get the gift of your dreams on your birthday. Start your sentences with these starters :
o Firstly, o Also, o Additionally, o Furthermore, o Most importantly,
Spelling – Look up the meaning of each of the homophones below and discuss with parents how to put them into sentences. How could you remember which is which? Meet/meat, here/hear, not/knot, mite/might, hole/whole, buy/by, which/witch Reading Challenge – Look for homophones when you read today. Maths – Please watch the following video about perimeter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAY1bsazcgM Find a variety (about 5) of different sized books and boxes. Measure the perimeter of each using your ruler and write down the measurement in cm and mm. Discuss the following questions with parents: What is perimeter? Does it matter where you start when you measure the length of the perimeter? Can you mark the place where you start and finish measuring? Do you need to measure all the sides of a rectangle or a square to find the perimeter? Explain why. Challenge
1)
2) How many different rectangles can you draw in your book with a perimeter of 20cm. Music Look around the room. Find four different things you can use as a percussion instrument. Describe how you would use each object to make sound, and what kind of sound you think it would make. Choose a favourite song and write down the title, artist, and any percussion used. Finally, describe how the song makes you feel, and how you were able to join in with your own percussion. Good morning Year 5! think today calls for some of our favourite Super Movers songs. Apologise to your adults in advance as these songs are guaranteed to be stuck in your heads ALL DAY LONG.
English / Geography
Sing along with these catchy songs about parenthesis and relative clauses. Here is a video and a website about
biomes. What types of biome do your chosen countries have? Is there more than one biome in your country? What
animals live within these areas? Think about how the animals have adapted to live in this environment. Pick two
biomes that are present in your countries and write a description of each biome. Include examples of parenthesis
and relative clauses (see the links above). You could underline/shade examples like we do in school. E.g. Rainforests
(which are hot and wet all year round) are home to half of all the different types of animals. You could use the
information below the video for ideas on what to write about.
Maths
Go to https://www.mathschase.com/ and practise your times tables. You can increase the challenge by altering the
chaser speed and by increasing the amount of points needed to win. I think you will really like this game! Go to the
tab All Maths Games and scroll down to Sequencing. Practise counting in multiples (e.g. 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 etc).
Today we will revise multiples, factors, prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. Here are some clips to
revise prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. Each clip has a quiz if you scroll down.
In your books, write down these numbers and circle those that are multiples of 5 (numbers that can be divided by 5
without a remainder / numbers that are in the never-ending 5 times table!).
83 65 251 495 1000 1551 8,245 is a multiple of 5 because…
Complete the table by thinking of some 6-digit numbers then sorting them into the correct column in the table
below. This activity could be repeated/extended. For example, you could sort by multiples of other numbers (at least
up to 12) and you could change the number of digits.
Multiple of 5 Not a multiple of 5
Challenge: Are all multiples of 8 multiples of 4? Are all multiples of 4 multiples of 8? Prove it.
Watch the video about factors and complete the quiz below the video. Below is an example of a venn diagram
showing the common factors of 18 and 30 (numbers that are a factor of both 18 and 30). So 1,2, 3 and 6 – in the
middle section – are all numbers that can go into both 18 and 30 without a remainder. Try creating a venn diagram
to show the common factors of:
24 and 42 12 and 21 36 and 48
Reading
Read, read, read! In the garden, on your bed, to the dog…! If you’re baking
or playing a board game, read the instructions to somebody. Take this time
to read for pleasure and find some books that you just CAN’T put down.
Physical Movement
Remember, you can join in with Joe live or watch his sessions later in the day.
Why not try some Minions Zumba? (Yes, you heard that right!) You could
In your books, write down 3 positive things you have done this week that made you smile. Here are my three things:
1) I baked some delicious brownies at the weekend. 2) I planted a new flower. 3) Douglas and I have joined in with
Joe Wicks each day and I have felt energised after doing some exercise!
Science
Continue with your presentation on life cycles. Make sure you look at the key questions from yesterday.
That’s it from me! Keep eating healthily, drinking water and doing things that make you smile!

Day 3: Good Morning Year Six! Did you notice my ‘typo’ yesterday? Fancy calling you all ‘toady!’ I
certainly didn’t check my work through thoroughly – did i? Sorry. Anyhow... back to our learning.
Reading
Read about biomes. Use the hyperlinks that are included under the geography subheading. Make notes
and use the notes to help you continue writing your knowledge organiser.
Writing
https://www.literacyshed.com/evol.html
Watch this clip through and write down your first thoughts. Watch the clip again and write down a one sentence to
summarise the story. ‘The clip was about...’ Watch the clip again and record how the clip made you feel. Then look at
the six bullet points at the bottom of the page underneath the subheading ‘writing opportunities’ Choose a task and
complete.
Maths
Complete the third revision test in the CPG booklet. The tests are a really good way of revising everything
that we have learned this year. If you are stuck or unsure, you could use your revision books or https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z826n39
