Message from the Principal Hi Everyone, Class List Organisation for 2016 In previous newsletters I have outlined the class structure for 2016. There would be one 1/2 and four 5/6 multi-age classes. Grade lists will also soon be created, with many factors taken into account. The student’s social grouping, academic needs and abilities, opportunity to develop extra responsibilities and the development of children’s emotional resilience all play a part in the decision making process. The relative importance of each depends on each individual child. Hence teachers will give a different weighting in order to maximise the benefits of a child’s educational setting. You may have some information or concerns regarding your child’s placement. (Note that this input should not take the form of requesting a particular teacher). However, if there is the possibility that your child may be placed with a teacher for the 3 rd time, this information is relevant. Please do not go directly to your current child’s teacher. Rather contact Kylie Fisher or Neil Pollard before Friday 6 th November either by phone or in writing so that your concerns can be included in the decision making process. Also, if your children will not be attending Montrose in 2016 can you let the office know. Preparing for the Twilight Fair 2016 Come on Board! Our phenomenal Parent Club meets during the day once a month. They coordinate the fundraising for the school… with amazing results. They are now pulling together the 2016 TWILIGHT FAIR. HOOP TIME REGIONAL FINALS – Congratulations to the Grade 5 and 6 students who participated in the
Regional Hoop Time finals last week. We had four teams compete and all do exceptionally well. The All Star
Girls side won the grand final by a point, securing a spot in the state finals. The All Star boys did really well to
make the grand final but unfortunately lost. We also had two future star sides, which believe it or not had to
play against each other in the grand final. Luckily though, both teams still progressed through to the State finals.

Well done to all of the 3-6 students who competed in the Australian Maths Competition!
A special mention to:
Dylan (4VW), Ollie (3GS) and Kade (3KS)
These three students scored in the top 3%, 7% and 16% respectively in their year level across Australia. A huge achievement!
For the last two years we have sold a total of 172 Trays of Mangoes. Let’s see how many we can sell this year. Please tell your family and friends and they too can enjoy scrumptious Mangoes!! The Mango orders need to be submitted to the office no later than Thursday 29th October. Thank you for your participation.
Sun Smart Kids In accordance with the Camp Australia policy, all children attending the service are to provide a sun smart hat. These hats can be their school hats, provided that it returns to school with them each day. Baseball caps are not a suitable hat, due to the lack of neck coverage. Please can you make sure that your child has a labelled hat which can either be kept in their bag, or ideally, remain at OSHC.
Curriculum Day Proposal Due to lack of interest over the last fortnight, the OSHC program will be closed on Monday 7th December. Please make sure that you make arrangements for the care of your child, as the school will be closed to students. What’s coming up… From now until the end of term four, Montrose OSHC will be running specialist activities. These activities will include:- Creating handmade gifts to support the Sophakama Community – who provide after school care to over 600 orphaned and vulnerable primary aged children in South Africa. Wildlife Rescue Awareness – what to do if you find an injured or displaced native animal or bird (the whole school community will be invited to attend this workshop). Kite Creation – Making a kite to enjoy in the summer holidays. Christmas Gifts – The children will be able to make and create their own gifts and cards for their family. So if one of these activities interests you and your child, please watch out for future Camp Australia pages in the Montrose Primary School Weekly newsletter.
