Project Overview

To improve access to care for schoolchildren, particularly underserved populations

Over time, build trusting relationships with children, parents, and school personnel to positively influence children’s health through care of acute illness and chronic disease and increased identification and attention to risky behaviors

To develop a sustainable school-based health model to serve students and families

Lessons Learned

Ensure consent packets go out in school information paperwork sent home at the beginning of the year

Ensure thorough understanding of AZ consent and confidentiality laws for teens

Ensure proper communication with the patient’s primary care provider

Ensure Spanish speaking capability on the unit

Ensure strong, helping relationship with the school system’s nurses, teachers, and staff
