The following is an in-depth look at my knowledge,

skills and abilities and how I was involved in various

situations, the actions I took to solve the problem, and

the positive results that benefitted both clients and my

employers:

Simplifying a Process to Maximize TimeUnited States Department of the Treasury (IRS)

Situation

• Tax Examiners were required to edit approximately 55 tax returns per hour to meet quota.

• Using a 530 page manual to look up information, tax examiners were only able to edit an average of 47 Form 1040 returns per hour.

Action

• I created a quick reference spreadsheet, indicating the edit codes on each line of the Form 1040 with all situations.

• I included columns that featured the page number in the 530 page manual for reference along with the special instructions tax examiners.

Result

• With the new reference sheet, tax examiners were able to find necessary information quicker and as a result, approximately 61 Form 1040 tax returns were edited per hour.

• Information and refunds were mailed to taxpayers much faster.

Resolving Conflicts Between VendorsSprint-Nextel Corporation

Situation

• As the Project Manager for the new 4G Voice and Data Project in Hanover, Maryland, I experienced a major conflict between two vendors during the installation phase.

Action

• I addressed the situation by first listening to the grievances of both parties.

• Arranged a meeting between both vendors to air out their differences and have them suggest possible solutions.

• Determined a solution based on the information provided.

Result

• Both vendors worked out their differences and came up with solutions on how they could assist each other.

• The project was completed five days earlier and a total savings of $50,000 was generated on this project for both Sprint-Nextel and both vendors.

Stepping Up to the ChallengeSprint-Nextel Corporation

Situation

• One month after working in my new department, one of our senior engineers went on short term disability.

• I was asked by my manager to take over all of the senior engineer’s projects and still be able to work my projects as well.

Result

• Approximately $100,000 overall was saved and all projects finished ahead of schedule and exceeded customer expectations.

• I was awarded the Sprint Excellence Award for how achievement exemplifies values.

Action

• I familiarized myself with all projects and the team members.

• I communicated to all members of the projects what the timeline and scope was and what the end result expectations were.

• I designed a Gantt chart and posted it on the department website so each project member could track their progress and the status of all projects.

Delivering Results & Focusing on the Bottom LineSprint-Nextel Corporation

Situation

• Given a six month timeline and a limited budget, I was given the task of project managing the new 4G Voice and Data feature for three wireless locations in the Mid-Atlantic.

• These three locations were the very first to have the 4G Voice and Data features installed throughout the entire Sprint-Nextel Network.

Result

• All three projects were completed one month ahead of schedule and a cost savings of nearly $1 million was accomplished.

• I was recognized among a division of engineers and project managers for providing Sprint-Nextel a Return On Investment (ROI) savings of $74.5 million for 2007.

Action

• I sent out Request for Proposals (RFP’s) to top vendors and suppliers on equipment and installation labor.

• I negotiated all bids and contracts for pricing and required that Methods of Installation Procedures be required.

• I required site visits from all vendors prior to installation so they knew exactly the equipment they needed and the labor hours required for the projects.

Creation of Power Engineering Training ManualSprint-Nextel Corporation

Situation

• Shortly after joining the Facilities Engineering Management team, I learned that there was no formal documentation or uniform training procedures for new employees.

• Each senior engineer had their own processes and it became very confusing to the newer members in the department when learning the processes.

Result

• The Facilities Engineering Management team is now equipped with a new training manual for everyone in the department to use as a standard guide in project processes.

• I was awarded the Sprint Excellence Award for taking the initiative of problem solving and creating a standardized process.

Action

• I coordinated a team effort of two new engineers (one being me) and two senior engineers to create a department training manual.

• The manual would contain step-by-step processes on how procedures in our department and division is accomplished.

Customer Commitment and Exceeding ExpectationsHarmon Industries (G.E. Transportation)

Situation

• In 1991, the product line I represented faced a 40% sales loss to one of our largest competitors.

• This product line featured a total new system that our customers were not acquainted with.

Result

• Our customers felt that they had our best interest and by 1st quarter 1993, sales increased by over 50%.

• The customers found the technical manual very easy to understand by employees of all levels.

• Customers spent approximately 50% less time on the phone with our customer service and field service representatives.

Action

• Being that I was one of the up front connections to the customer, I immediately asked what issues they had about our product and service.

• The customer didn’t complain about the product, but did not understand the technical documentation for installation and maintenance.

• I asked a representative from each railroad to assist in creating a new technical user’s manual.
