Literacy Pro is powered by The Lexile Framework®The Lexile Framework® has been developed by MetaMetrics Inc. based on 20-plus years of research. The Lexile data in Literacy Pro measures two critical aspects relevant to reading comprehension development:1. Student Reading Ability—through the Lexile test2. Text Complexity—analysis of Lexile level of books and other texts.
Independent reading solution with online engagement.
Text complexity
‘You know how some librarians like shushing people? Well, not Mrs Booth. She’s not a shusher. She’s a shushee! When she’s not humming or singing to herself, she’s going around talking and joking with everyone. And then someone will come in the library and she’ll call out something like, ‘Oooooo, Norbet! You’re into wrestling, monster cars and cake decorating, aren’t you? Well, have I got just the book for you!’
“I live in a farm house. There’s no farm here any more though. Before I was born, this house sat in the middle of paddocks. They stretched from Cooper’s Creek to the top of the ridge. My granddad had hundreds of sheep, and a few horses too.Over time, the farm shrank like wool in the wash. Now there are houses where sheep used to graze.”

Literacy Pro reports use norm-referenced dataThere are several Literacy Pro reports that may be used by teachers to inform teaching practice. The reports are generated at the school, year and class level. Many of the reports compare reading performance with norm-referenced data gathered by MetaMetrics.
Lexile compared to end-of-year average norm-referenced Lexile Educators are able to track how year levels, classes and students are tracking against norm-referenced data.
Expected annual Lexile growthEducators are able to view expected Lexile growth based on students’ beginning-of-year Lexile and MetaMetrics research data.
Literacy ProReading achievement information for leadership teams and classroom teachers
Literacy Pro provides easily-accessible, real-time, research-based and norm-referenced data at the school, year, class and student level. This data may be used to inform teaching practice and evaluate reading programs.
AVERAGE QUIZ SCORE is calculated from all online quizzes taken in the current year.
AVERAGE LEXILE is the current average, by year or class.
CURRENT LEXILE COMPARED TO EXPECTED end-of-year Lexile and norm shows how students are tracking.
READING PROFICIENCY shows the mix of students’ reading ability compared to the level of texts they are expected to read at their year level.
QUIZ PASS RATE summarises the percentage of quizzes passed.

Literacy ProLiteracy ProAssesses readers to develop readers
To develop reading skills, students need practice. To optimise reading development, students in Literacy Pro are encouraged to read texts within their Lexile range or their ‘zone of proximal development’. This will challenge but not frustrate readers and so develop their reading skills.
Literacy Pro contains a database of approximately 10,000 Lexiled books. Many of these books have online quizzes. New Lexiled books and quizzes are added regularly.
Students take the online, adaptive Lexile Test.
Teachers may add their own assessment.
Student data is updated for: Word count, Average quiz
score, Quizzes passed, Points earned and Certificate level.
The test generates a Lexile reading measure.
Students take an online quiz. If they pass they build their word count and earn points.
Periodically, students take the Lexile Test again.
Students select their interests.
They generate a list of books or choose a book to read within
their Lexile range.
Their reading development is able to be tracked over time.

Short Reads Non-fictionClose reading for deep comprehension
Short Reads Non-fiction provides 200 levelled, short informative and persuasive texts across a range of types of texts and contexts. They are designed so students learn about their world, as well as the way authors use language and various types of texts to achieve their purpose.
Short Reads
Close, analytical reading comprehensionThe texts selected for Short Reading Non-fiction are designed to allow students to focus their reading. By doing this they:
• build their vocabulary, and
• comprehend at a deep level.
After close reading comprehension, there is the opportunity to analyse the text to learn how the author has:
• used the text’s structure, features and organisation, and
• made language choices to meet their purpose.
For these reasons, the texts in Short Reads Non-fiction are sufficiently complex to be worthy of being read, reread and analysed.
Range of types of texts and genresShort Reads Non-fiction includes both informative and persuasive texts including:
• reports, explanations, recounts, procedures, descriptions, expositions and discussions.

dsSmall group or whole class close readingShort Reads Non-fiction cards are designed to be used as a small-group reading activity. There are six copies of each card.
Using Short Reads Non-fictionThe Teacher’s Guide has at-a-glance notes for:
• Pre-reading: A focus question helps students read purposefully and for meaning
• First Reading: Prompts are provided to assist initial previewing and reading of the text
• Close Reading: Teacher-led questions are provided to prompt discussion as the students re-read. The focus of questions includes:
• making connections, main idea, comparing and contrasting, making inferences, drawing conclusions, sequencing information, words in context, vocabulary development, examining text features, understanding the writer’s purpose and choice of language.
• Discuss the Text: After the analysis of the text during Close Reading, students then focus on higher-order thinking skills. Prompts challenge students to:
• move beyond the text, incorporate prior knowledge, synthesise their opinions, make generalisations, and make judgements about information presented.
• Write About Reading: Provides two distinct ways for students to make a written response.
• Information/Explanation response to the text. Frequently requires students to revisit the text with a new/specific purpose
• Opinion based response to the text.

Shared ReadingThe 24 Key Links Shared Books are full of rhythmical, rhyming language and humour. Children are enticed to read and re-read these books over several days. Each day takes a different focus:
Day 1: Comprehension
Day 2: Vocabulary
Day 3: Flow, phrasing and fluency
Day 4: Phonic knowledge and phonemic awareness
Day 5: Oral, written and visual language.
Guided ReadingEmergent/Early (Levels 1–14)
The prompts in the Focus Panels for the Guided Reading books from Magenta to Green, invite students to preview, view and review these texts through active discussion. The focus is on ‘learning to read’, and the texts are tightly scaffolded to ensure early reading success.
Fluency (Levels 15–30)
As the focus shifts to ‘reading to learn’ for the fluency titles, students continue to be involved in thinking and talking about what and how they read. In addition, the titles from Orange to Sapphire provide models that help students understand the different types of text structures and writing techniques used by good writers.
Key Links explicitly involves readers in thinking and talking about what and how they read, and making links to what and how they write.
“ Time-poor teachers need the very best support to ensure reading success for all students. After working with teachers for many years, I know that teachers need more support today than ever before due to the
pressures and challenges of today’s classrooms. Key Links is a solution to this problem. It provides teachers with explicit guidance on every page, in every book. It is a complete toolbox for the teaching of reading.”

These texts have been specifically designed to be used with an approach based on Reciprocal Reading, which is well researched and proven to improve comprehension.
Comprehension StrategiesFor each text, students explicitly use the comprehension strategies used in Reciprocal Reading:
• Predict • Clarify• Ask Questions • Summarise
AND in Connectors additional comprehension strategies are made explicit:
• Make Connections • Form Opinions • Visualise • Make Inferences (Series 2)

4-step problem-solving process
Problem-solving strategies are systematically
taught
PR1ME Mathematics Most countries aim to be in the top performing nations in international educational studies of mathematics—such as TIMSS. Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong are currently numbers 1, 2 and 3 in TIMSS. PR1ME Mathematics has been adapted from the highly acclaimed and widely proven Primary Mathematics Project developed by the Ministry of Education in Singapore. But more than that, it combines world’s best practice pedagogy from the three top-performing nations into a comprehensive and proven maths approach. The evidence is in. It works!
Why PR1ME works: 1. Explicit problem solving is at the centre for
teaching and learning—with an emphasis on both the processes and strategies, including the ‘bar model’
2. Students learn through consistent pedagogy and a concrete—pictorial—abstract approach
3. Topics take a ‘deep dive’ into the development of concepts to build mastery through scaffolding
4. Students actively develop meta-language and metacognitive thinking
5. Teachers’ professional learning is enhanced through using world’s best practice.
Problem solving is central The Mathematics Framework used in PR1ME has problem solving as being central to mathematics learning. It is similar to the approach used by the Singapore Ministry of Education that turned Singapore from a low-performing maths nation to a high-performing one.

Each topic treats a concept in-depth and carefully scaffolds the concept being developed.
Students are actively encouraged to be aware of their learning. They are invited to control their thinking processes and to monitor and self-regulate their learning.
Learning expectations and experiences are clearly stated in
student language

CoursebooksThere are two Coursebooks at each year level. They are the core component of PR1ME for students. They introduce and develop concepts and skills to mastery and are perfect for instructional practice.
Practice BooksThere are two Practice Books for each year level that directly link to the Coursebooks. They contain practice exercises and reviews for formative and summative assessment.
Teacher’s Guides— Professional Learning
There is a Teacher’s Guide for each Coursebook. Comprehensive lesson plans free up teachers from spending time on planning to spending time on students. Lesson notes to support each page in the student books show teachers how to effectively deliver each lesson.
They also provide teachers with professional learning, such as giving teachers the ‘heads-up’ on likely student mistakes and ways to avoid them.
