Schiller - Gymnasium The door to your future! Welcome to secondary school - the next phase of your life that will prepare you for your academic and profes- sional career, both in English and in German. The SESB at Schiller-Gymnasium provides colourful class- rooms, modern science labs, an acve media programme with interacve whiteboards, a landscaped school yard, excellent arts and music facilies, a library allowing inde- pendent study and of course a cafeteria offering healthy food. The Schiller-Gymnasium supports a long tradion of learning by offering our students a wealth of opportunity for learning inside and outside the classroom. Coopera- ons with Berlin universies and cultural instuons, visits to museums and exhibions and parcipaon in a wide variety of naonal and city-wide compeons are just a few examples. It seems to work — SESB graduates have gone on to study in Berlin, Germany and abroad (Oxford, Cam- bridge,Trinity College Dublin, Harvard, LA Film Academy, Courses Offered Both German and English are taught at nave and part- ner tongue levels in Years 7 and 8. From Year 9 on all subjects are taught at a nave speaker standard in Eng- lish and German. Half of the subjects in the SESB branch (Geography, History, Social Studies, Informaon Technology, Biology, Music and of course English) are taught in English by a dynamic team of internaonal teachers from the U.K., Ireland and the USA. Years 7 + 8 One hour of Informaon Technology is offered in Year 7 and is integrated with Biology or Eng- lish, so the pupils learn to use computer skills in school subjects. Physics and Chemistry (taught in German) are offered as a combined subject to emphasise the shared skills between the Sciences. In Year 7 French is con- nued (begun in Year 5). In Year 8 pupils opt for an addional subject in one of the following areas: Lan or Italian, Art/Music or Science. Years 9 + 10 Connuaon of compulsory and supple- mental courses given above. Work placement in Year 9. In Year 10 a choice of specialised courses is offered as a preparaon for the upper grades. Students pass the bilingual Milerer Schulabschluss at the end of 10th grade. The German Abitur consists of a credit system compri- sing several courses leading up to a final examinaon in which five subjects (Prüfungsfächer) are examined in detail, of which a maximum of three are examined through English. All subjects offered up to Year 10 in the SESB are offered at pass (Grundkurs) or honours (Leistungskurs) level in the respecve language. Pass level courses can also be taken in IT, Lan and Italian as well as various supplemental courses in, e.g. German literature, MUN, Physics, Geography, Art/Music. Clubs Choir, music ensem- bles, Book Club, school website, me- diaon, orchestra, techno-club, Jump in MINT, MUN, DELF, community service, volleyball and foot- ball, are some of the clubs on offer.
