We had 5 applicants for the position and interviewed two candidates. The Q & A below will help you to get to know Charlie. Over the coming weeks you will be learning more about him and his family. He will be an incredible asset to our church family and I hope you will keep them in your prayers as they make this transition. Tell us about yourself and your family. My wife Kristine and I have been married for 8 awesome years! We met at the Wesley Foundation at West Texas A&M University (GO BUFFS!) We have an 18 month old son named Chanan and he has a little brother or sister who will be born sometime in June 2015. What experience do you have in ministry? I have been involved in ministry for over 10 years now. During that time most of my experience has been working with students. But I have also been a discipleship pastor (small group ministry) for adults, I have helped plant a church as the connections pastor, as well as led the launch of a contemporary service. I had the privilege of being ordained by Faith Covenant Church in 2007. What are you most excited about in coming to FUMC Canyon? I am extremely excited about being a part of such an awesome ministry team and a church with such great community. I hope I can be as much of a blessing to FUMC Canyon as I believe the church will be for my family. What is an initial goal you have as you come lead the youth? My primary goal is to begin having conversations with the students and finding out from them what their goals and hopes are for their youth group. It’s important to me to know what’s important to the students. What is your favorite hobby or activity? I recently took up archery as a hobby. But I also enjoy fishing (when I can find water), reading, and drinking COFFEE! Merry Christmas and

Peace Be With YOU! It is hard

to believe I am sitting here

looking at the beautiful lights on

my Christmas tree and reflecting

on the year that is so near to the

end. As we move forward,

remember that there will always be ups and downs;

there will always be those that push you to the edge;

those that make you laugh uncontrollably; those that

love you unconditionally; and there is ALWAYS our

Heavenly Father who walks with us through it all!

The Children’s Christmas Program went off

beautifully! The kids performed their little hearts out and

we had some great audience participation. The kids

performed to a full house and it was so much fun.

I had the privilege of guiding these 3 young

men through a study of the Armor of God and a study on

Worship. On Dec. 10 we travelled to Tulia to visit

Kenneth Wyatt’s Art Gallery. This is a tradition I love to

carry on each year. These boys received a bud cross

designed by Kenneth Wyatt. This cross is a symbol that

faith starts as a bud in us and as we learn and grow, it

will bloom when God says we are ready. During the

past months of study we have been nurturing the buds of

faith. I can’t wait to see what God does with the rest of

their

lives.

Mark Your Calendars!

Wednesday Evenings resume January 14th!

Greetings! This will be my final newsletter article here at FUMC Canyon. It is hard to believe that over five years have

passed since I turned in my first article. Time has literally flown by, yet our bonds have grown tremendously! This last Sunday Dede and I were blown away by your love and generosity. We both were overwhelmed by your loving words and gifts. I was also honored (as always) to serve communion on Sunday. As I was serving communion I was looking at

many of you thinking about these last five years and how close we feel to many of you. You have watched my kids grow, you have watched me grow, I have watched you grow, we have cried together, laughed together, been frustrated together and simply experienced life together. I can truly say that you are family! I even found myself tearing up during communion thinking about my departure from you. Thank you for everything and know that you have, are and will always be a blessing in our lives. Please know that we plan to stay in touch and even more so know that you will always be dear to us....you will always be family! Love you all very much! Signing out,

Tyler Looney

By the way please be in prayer for our ski trip to

Colorado taking place December 30-January 2nd.

My grandpa made me and my brother a toybox for Christmas one year. It was stained wood with a little shelf that ran along the sides of the interior. I stored all the good stuff in there. Just thinking about it makes me smile. I remember the toys of my youth. The joy and excitement of play. My friends and I loved to race hot wheels cars down the

stairs. The countless hours spent playing with action figures from GI Joy, to the 6 Million Dollar Man to just about every Star Wars figure ever created. As a dad, I realized that much of that play was copying many of the things that parents do. Whether it's taking care of a baby doll, building at a plastic workbench, or pretending to be a teacher, soldier, or a police officer. We did it for fun. But in that fun we were learning. How many lessons have I learned from playing well? What new lessons can we learn from some of the toys of our past? In Christ, Rick Enns

Sr. Pastor

Continued from Page 1—Keys article

What would we be surprised to know about you?

It might surprise you that I have been a mascot for 3 different organizations. I

was the Borger Bulldog, the West Texas A&M Buffalo “Bucky”, and the Amarillo

Gorillas mascot “Stomp”.

If you could eat only one thing from now until Jesus returns, what would it

be?

I am going to break the rules and say it’s a tie between my grandmother’s turkey

and dressing and combination burritos from Taco Villa!

What is your favorite movie?

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

What passage of Scripture is closest to your heart?

Acts 4:13 – “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived

that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they

recognized that they had been with Jesus.”

I want people to recognize that I have been with Jesus by the way I live my life.

Mark 12:30-31 is also a scripture that inspires/challenges me on a regular basis.

How can we help you in this transition?

I think the primary way FUMC Canyon can help is with prayer. Anytime you go

through a transition it is such an encouragement to know that there are people

praying on your behalf. Also we would love to meet as many of you as possible

so don’t be shy about coming up and introducing yourself!

Fall 2014 Wednesday Night Fellowship
