Located between the Pacific Ocean on one side, and the mountains of the Great Dividing Range, the landscape of the Nambucca Valley is diverse; from stunning areas of native rain forests to incredibly lush green fertile farming valleys, criss crossed by the Nambucca River and its many tributaries. The drives featured in this brochure offer the visitor the opportunity to easily explore and discover a land of exceptional beauty and take in places of special meaning to the local Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal peoples. < Yarriabini National Park Distances shown are progressive from the start of each drive. Some of the drives have sections of unsealed (gravel) roads but with care can be easily enjoyed in an average well maintained family car. Drive to the conditions and consider that adverse weather can cause flooding over low lying areas, roads and causeways and may have caused slippages of embankments and falling trees. Be on the lookout for stock and heavy farm vehicles which also use these roads. Please do not light fires in any area other than a designated BBQ and do not leave rubbish. Giinagay (Welcome) This drive begins from Giinagay Way just north of Nambucca Heads and takes in rolling countryside as well as the Bollanolla Nature Reserve and the Viewmont State Forest, retracing a section of the World Rally course. As well as being prime land for beef cattle this area produces a wide variety of interesting crops including Macadamia nuts, Bananas and Native Finger Limes. A slight detour en route takes you into Bowraville which has a great picnic spot right on the river. Viewmont State Forest > This drive takes visitors into the heart of the Yarriabini National Park. It offers a multitude of experiences - creek crossings, winding rainforest tracks and at the summit spectacular views from 2 lookouts over the Macleay Valley and Great Dividing Range. Picnic amongst the majestic tall trees at ‘the Pines’ and learn why this place is special to the local Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal peoples. Keep a lookout for the wildlife and perhaps get a glimpse of a Goanna or Duck Billed Platypus. At 3.8kms turn right on to Graces Rd. At 5.9kms take left fork. At 8.5kms cross W. G. Grace Bridge. At 12.2kms cross Betty Allens Bridge. At 15kms cross the North Arm at Betts Bridge. At 15.2kms turn right on to North Arm Rd. At 15.9kms turn sharp left on to Lower Buck- rabendinni Rd. At 18.2kms cross Jeff Boorer Bridge. At 27.2kms turn right to rejoin North Arm Rd to return to Bowraville, 1 km. From Macksville, take Giinagay Way in a southerly direction, take the Warrell Creek/Scotts Head exit at Bald Hill interchange onto TD14 and then take the turn to Scotts Head. At 4.4kms cross Way Way Creek. At 9.5kms turn right to continue on TD 14 to Grassy Head. At 15.3kms pass left turn off to Grassy Head. At 18.6kms turn right on to Stuarts Point Rd. At 20.9kms turn left to continue on Stuarts Point Rd. At 28kms join the Pacific Motorway to return to Macksville. Turn off Giinagay Way on to Valla Rd. At 1.5kms turn left (staying on Valla Rd). At 4.4kms pass the Valla Hall and enter the Viewmont State forest. At 19kms (opposite Bowraville racecourse) you can turn right to Bowraville - 2kms, or turn left on to Rodeo Drive to continue on the Valla Loop. At 26.8kms turn left on to Wirrimbi Rd. At 29.1kms cross Newee Creek over Cassidys Bridge. At 31.4kms cross the railway bridge and at 31.9kms turn left on to Old Coast Rd. At 16.7kms cross Rhones Creek. At 17kms turn left on to Rhones Creek Rd. At 20.1kms cross Nashs Crossing. At 23.6kms turn left on to Congarinni North Rd. At 24.8kms turn right on to Wilson Rd. At 30.2kms cross Blackbutt Creek. At 32.7kms cross Wilsons Bridge and Tilly Willy Creek and on into Macksville. Williams Hill Loop 34kms Sealed & Gravel Rd - Allow 45mins From Macksville - Turn off Giinagay Way on to Boundary St. At .6kms turn left on to Wallace St and on to Taylors Arm Rd. At 1km cross railway bridge. At 1.4kms cross Tilly Willy Creek. At 3.8kms pass through the village of Congarinni. At 9.6kms cross Franks Creek (Wards bridge). At 10.3kms continue on to Boat Harbour Rd (do not turn left on to Taylors Arm Rd here). At 11.2 kms cross Boat Harbour bridge. At 15kms turn left to continue on Boat Harbour Rd. At 16kms cross Charles Johnson bridge. At 19.2 kms cross Grays Crossing bridge. At 20kms turn right back on to Taylors Arrn Rd. At 23kms cross Bakers Creek. At 27kms cross South Arm (river) into the village of Taylors Arm. Return by same route. At 4.4kms cross Way Way Creek. At 4.5kms turn right at sign post - Way Way Forest - Yarriabini National Park. At 8.5kms reach ‘The Pines’ picnic area. Just past ‘The Pines’ you can either - turn left on to Jimmys Ridge Rd to reach Grassy Head (5kms) on TD 14, or continuing on, at 12.5kms turn right on to the summit of Mt Yarrahapinni. At 15.6kms reach the first lookout and picnic area and at 16.5kms reach the summit of Mt Yarrahapinni. N o r t h A r m G r a c e s R d R o d e o D r i v e W i r r i m b i R d This drive starts from the historic town of Bowraville and takes in rolling countryside with sweeping scenes of valleys, mountain escarpments and a section of the World Rally course. Crossing the W.G.Grace Bridge spectacular views of the North Arm tributary of the Nambucca River can be seen both up and down stream. The river attracts all sorts of wildlife- including freshwater turtles, fish, Water Dragons (lizards) and bird life; see if you can spot the beautiful Azure Kingfisher with its blue wings and orange chest plumage. < The North Arm from the W.G.Grace Bridge This drive begins from the Pacific Motorway just south of Macksville and is a great alternative to travelling on the Motorway. The drive is a large sealed road loop around the base of Mt Yarrahapinni and the Yarriabini National Park. Many small detours to the villages and beaches of Scotts Head, Grassy Head and Stuarts Point are possible offering visitors a wide choice of pretty scenery and environments to enjoy. < Warrell Creek This drive begins at Macksville and passes through Bow- raville partly retracing the World Rally course. This is an ideal route where you can have a break and explore this pretty historic town and have refreshments. The drive meanders through prime cattle country and passes close to both the North Arm and Taylors Arm of the Nambucca River with many places just perfect to picnic, swim and fish. < Welshs Pioneer Park at Talarm has bush BBQ’s, toilets and undercover seating This drive begins from Giinagay Way at Macksville and offers visitors a classic ‘country drive’ on sealed roads all the way to the picturesque village of Taylors Arm. Just after leaving Macksville the route closely follows the Taylors Arm of the Nambucca River to Congarrini and crosses the river in many places with stunning views across the river valley to the mountains beyond. The village of Taylors Arm has an historic hotel and picturesquecamping ground. < Discover our lush countryside TD (Tourist Drive) 14 Williams Hill Loop Taylors Arm 28kms Sealed Rd - Allow 30mins 34kms Sealed & Gravel Rd - Allow 45mins 27kms Sealed Rd - Allow 40 mins each way TD 15 From the Bald Hill roundabout TD 15 follows Giinagay Way through Macksville, Riverside Drive, Bowra St, Mann St and Link Road to the Highway Service Centre. This drive follows close to the Nambucca River along what was the old Pacific Highway, now renamed Giinagay (welcome) Way. Many varied scenes of the river come into view as you pass through the historic river town of Macksville with its iconic bridge which was opened in 1931. After crossing the Macksville bridge continue driving north along Giinagay Way and lookout for the many oyster farms dotted along the river. This section of the Nambucca River is famous throughtout Australia for the world class oysters it produces.
