H ello Salina Country Club! My first few weeks here at the Club have been great and I am
especially grateful for the enthusiastic welcome I’ve received by members and staff alike. Having grown up in Oklahoma, I am excited to be back this close to home and am humbled to join the rich history of SCC. We’re looking forward to an exciting fall season this year with some new events being added to the calendar. Starting in October, we will be introducing Ladies’ Night, Minute to Win It game nights for the kids, weekly game day specials for Chiefs, Jayhawks, and Wildcats football games. This year’s Halloween Hayride on October 25 will now feature a Trunk or Treat night as well. Turn your car or truck into a festive Halloween-mobile and pass out candy to all the ghosts, goblins, princesses, and fairies that night. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and “trunk-orations.” The fall season also marks the time of year when we start projects on the golf course for the upcoming season. The first of which you’ve probably already noticed,
reshaping the fairway contours and green approaches. Not only will this improve the visual appeal of the course, it will also enhance playability by increasing the amount of fairway-height surfaces. This process will also encourage any rye grass that is present in these areas to give way to our Bermuda and Zoysia grasses. It is important to note that this is a transition process, not an event. We will speed the process along by sodding any sluggish areas that are not transitioning naturally and appreciate your support and patience during this time. We had a great Member Town Hall meeting in September. The Dining Room was nearly full as we joined to say farewell to Jerome and hear a Club update from Rob DeMore, VP Operations for Troon Prive. Thank you to all that joined us that evening. If you missed the meeting or have any questions regarding the presentation that was sent out, please feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to spend some time with you. One of the key performance statistics Rob discussed that evening was our Net Promoter Score. Derived from the Member Survey sent out in September, this key metric evaluates what percentage of members are likely to recommend membership in the Club to friends and colleagues. We were all very happy to see that this score grew from 21.88% in initial survey done in February to 34.29% in September’s survey. While we are
clearly headed in the right direction, our goal is to continue to enhance your membership experience so that we are all Promoters of the Club. For those who would like to promote membership, we recently rolled out an exciting “Join Now, Play Today” incentive. This program entices potential members to take advantage of the outstanding fall golf season, full use of the Clubhouse while only paying Social dues through March. They can then convert to Stock in April and take advantage of the Privé Privilege benefits. If you have friends and family who should be enjoying the lifestyle of the Salina Country Club, please bring them to the club and introduce them to Megan Berry, Director of Membership Sales and Marketing. Megan can also be reached at [email protected]. Speaking of the Privé Privilege and Troon Advantage programs, this winter will be a great time to explore the world of Troon. If you are planning a reprieve from the Kansas winter with a trip to Arizona, California, Florida, or other Sunbelt states, check with myself or the Golf staff ahead of time to see if there are any Troon managed facilities nearby. Your membership at SCC now affords you the opportunity to play some fantastic courses at reduced or reciprocal rates. You can also view the participating courses online at http://www.troongolf.com/member-programs.html. Thank you again for the very warm welcome and I look forward to seeing you all around the Club. Have a wonderful day!
H appy fall to all! I hope everyone enjoys all the wonderful fall activities we
are planning at the SCC! The Halloween Hayride has a new twist this
year with the addition of Trunk or Treat. We will also have activities including, Kids Night Out featuring “Minute to Win It” games which will be tons of fun, as well as Ladies Nights, dinner specials, and so much more. It is shaping up to be an excit-ing fall at the SCC, be sure to watch your calendars for all of these events! A big thank you to Jerome Louie for his outstanding leadership and direction the past several months, he will be missed. And a huge welcome
to Ryan Eckroat, our new (and permanent!) General Manager. We are all very happy to welcome Ryan to the SCC family. I do have a few dates available for your family or business holiday parties in December. Please give me a call to secure your date. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and please contact me anytime with questions or comments. See you soon!

It” games. There will be a supper, games and prizes, so definitely let your kids know about this fun event! As well as that, we’ve added game day specials and other dining specials to enhance the dining experience in October. All monthly dining events will be posted right outside the Grill Room so you can plan your month. I’ve been experimenting with the newsletter and e-mail blasts. Whenever you have any suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me. I’m more than happy to hear other ways of doing things to make life easier for everyone. As always, if you know of anyone interested in membership, let’s get them in the doors for a tour. Once they see everything going on at the Club, they’ll see no reason why they shouldn’t join!
H appy fall everyone! As we head into October, we’ve been working on adding
several new social activities for our members. The annual Halloween Hayride will be Saturday, October 25. Not only will the hayride run every fifteen minutes, but we have added a trunk or treat to the mix! Any adults who are interested in decorating their trunk to supply treats for the children, please sign up in the main office. We are really excited about this and are hoping for a huge turn out! W ith the arrival of fall's cooler temps, the amount of play decreases but it is
also frees us from our regular maintenance duties so we can begin to ramp up work on our project list. Last month we were making different fertilizer applications, applying
broadleaf weed controls, and overseeding the cool season areas on the course. This month we will begin implementing changes to the contours of some of the fairways to "soften" their appearance and to improve playability. Our goal is not to leave them looking like "runways,” but to decrease the sharp contours that were implemented many years ago so that even a slightly off-center tee shot will still have the opportunity to come to rest in the fairway. We will also be working on some much needed tree work throughout the
course including: trimming, some removal, root pruning and stump removal. We will also continue transplanting hardwoods from along the river to many areas on the course to increase the variety of desirable trees on the course. We have also planned on some much needed work on the bridges over the lower pond and work on the #17 waterfall to make it operational once again. Hope to see you on the course and please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
O ctober provides some of the best golfing weather of the year. Daylight saving time
through the month of October still allows time to get out and play in the evenings so plan your days to include some golf. All of our club championships have been concluded.
Congratulations to this year’s club champions: Men’s and Men’s Sr. – Frank Roth Women’s – Megan Dupy Women’s Sr. – Ann Payne Junior Girls – Ellie Cobb Junior Boys – Brooks Brown Couples—Lori & Joel Parriot K-State/KU fans: be sure to check the club calendar for K-State/KU “Challenge Month” events in November leading up to the annual K-State/KU football game. We’ll kick off the “challenge” events with a golf horse race on Sunday, November 2.
Sign up in the Pro Shop as a Wildcat or Jayhawk! Finally, I would like to say thank you to all SCC members for your support and patronage in the Pro Shop for the last 25 years. The transfer of ownership to the club, along with new buying opportunities through Troon, will allow for some new brands and improved selection. Thank you for another fun and successful golf season. See you on the links.
Congratulations to our winners!
